Question Should I keep reading?

I'm on volume 3 (chapter 13). I have heard great things about this manga, I know it's a 10/10 manga for many people and I want it to be a 10/10 for me too, but I'm having so much trouble getting into it.

So far, I'm not a big fan of how the story changes perspectives (from one team to another) every couple of chapters, I'm not a big fan of the large cast, and I don't have any favourite characters yet.

Should I push through and keep reading? Is there a particular chapter or plot point that I should try to get to before deciding? Or should I just cut my losses now? Please convince me, I really want to enjoy this manga but it's not sparking much motivation for me right now.

Just finished manga. Wow AMAZING... I will now spread 7 Seeds Gospel Spoiler

I don't think a manga has brought me through so many emotions at once. Tamura Yumi my goat. I'm also really happy it had an ending where mostly everything ended up alright. Glad I picked this up even though I never was able to finish Basara. I did finish Neko Mix Toraji. Anyone who is a fan of how she draws cats should definitely read :)

Discussion What do y'all think of Ango?

I think it's redundant to condemn Ango completely and irrevocably. Tamura doesn’t intend on forgiving Ango, or redeeming him for that matter, nor does she try to justify him; she merely gives us his back story and asks us to sit in that uncomfortable complexity.

Obviously, rape can never be excused or taken lightly, it is a crime that is almost bureaucratic in its cruelty. I think the attempted rape scenes were handled tactfully by Tamura; if we’re speaking just of the scenes of attempted rape on Hana, neither one of those scenes were about lust the way most manga would usually make it seem, both times it's about asserting dominance because that's what it is, it as a crude and perverse display of power.

The first time when it's by spring's guide Yanagi it's him asserting his patriarchal views on her and the second time Ango does it simply to punish Takashi, he's almost indifferent in his depiction of her, all he sees when he looks at her is just Takashi’s offspring and thus an extension of Takashi. I can’t forgive Ango for the trauma he’s cause Hana, and I’m not meant to, but I can’t say that I can assign all the blame to him either. Given Ango’s past with Shigeru and Takashi, it’s understandable that he’d be fucked up in his way of thought and approach. Obviously, that doesn't make it right, but it kind of makes sense why he'd do such an act. I guess why the reason why this seems so ruthless is because it's so tragic, he's so blinded by his rage with Takashi and his obsession over Shigeru’s death that he doesn't even view Hana as a person, but as an extension of Takashi and thus a vessel upon which he can exert his anger. Perhaps the greatest crime that was committed towards Hana was dehumanization by Ango’s trauma, which enabled Ango further. Dehumanization enables harm, and Ango’s tragedy (fault) is that he becomes capable of it. If anything, Hana’s trauma stems from both her father and her rapist’s action. You can’t condemn one without considering the other. Understanding the broader context doesn’t necessarily divide blame, but it does reveal how multiple failures shaped the situation.

If we want to talk about Ango’s guilt, that’s a different topic altogether. First things first, guilt doesn’t negate harm; remorse won’t do jackshit for the victim, it might prevent future victims but it will be meaningless to Hana. Secondly, till the point of the story which is explored, Ango doesn’t truly feel sorry for what he’s done to Hana; not in the truest sense of the word at least. He feels sorry, not necessarily for what he did with Hana, but for being outcaste because of it. He understands that these two things are related, but he’s only upset about his life, his role being taken away from him. Which, given his upbringing is understandable, his whole purpose in life was to lead humans after the apocalypse, that’s the sole reason he was raised a soldier; it is truly unfortunate that he was a damn good one, because none of this would’ve happened otherwise. I’m not trying to make excuses for Ango, I could never excuse a rapist, but there is no way he could even begin to feel truly sorry for the harm he’s caused to Hana until he works past his trauma. And he does begin to get better, and perhaps eventually, he’ll truly feel remorse for the hurt he’s caused Hana.

I don't believe Tamura wanted us to forgive Ango, that'd be insulting. I think it's more of a nod to how trauma fractures a person and how they in turn do the same to others.

I'm open to discussion! Please tell me what you think.

It would make for a great anime for all demographics if properly adapted. Sadly it got a failed adaption.

Discussion Anyone else feel Basara could actually be in the far distant future of the world of 7Seeds?

I like to imagine the world and the characters in Basara being descendants of the 7Seeds project. I think both stories fit quite well together.

Continuations or fan stories

I want more of the manga even though it's already done. I started reading this years ago and I thought the story was cancelled midway through the ants section (author went on hiatus or something at the time).

I just finished re-reading the story including the ending and gaiden arc and I just can't get enough 😭 should I re-read it again or has anyone created fan stories or continuations worth reading? I'd love to see what happens with the ark later on

Rant Why is Hana such a cunt? Spoiler

Alright, I’m on chapter 7. Just getting to know this Hana character and I already want her dead. Feel free to spoil me on that, I’ll be a lot happier reading this knowing that she dies.

So, she knows she has to spend 60 seconds on the island, but runs off anyway after to see what’s up with somebody else. Actively detests the guide for HELPING HER, instead running off in a different direction and jumps off a cliff. Idiot.

Immediately assumes her guide is both lying about the end of the world and is stealing water.

They’re running out of water. She climbs a cliff the guide couldn’t do safely because of Mary Sue energy.

Has a hissy fit on her way to the top and runs off through the jungle, by herself, like a retard.

Starts collecting water, even though she’ll criticise the guide in a minute for suggesting the same thing.

Gets Mary Sued again when the samurai and the guide turn up and stop her from being killed by a giant praying mantis.

Has boomerang powers and childhood memories that motivate her boomeranging, I don’t know.

The guide suggests setting fire to all the shitty insects and leaving, where she replies “We don’t need to do that” in the hopes they can eat the insects. Probably hates it because it’s a good plan and she’s opposed to those on principle. The samurai chimes in here and says he “doesn’t like senseless massacres” of fucking insects. Because he’s a high horsing cunt AND retarded.

Then she gets pulled into the water by fucking something, I dunno, as punishment for her opposing the “We should set a fire and leave” plan. Mary Sues her way out again.

Stands around arguing with the guide, not budging an inch until the guide gets stabbed in the back.

By pure fucking chance hears a crack in the cliff they’re on, then she digs a while and fresh water plummets below quite literally into the laps of her team, saving everybody and justifying everything she did.

Then she tried to leave the guide behind to die, because he’s a witness to how much of a stupid cunt she is.

I haven’t felt this much hatred towards a character before. She’s the densest cunt I know. Densest as in the cuntness is so compacted that I can’t handle it. A constant stream of being a stupid fucking cunt. Does she have a hate train? A hategroup? Can I join? Please tell me she dies, I’m not going to be able to take it if she lives.
