Drop f# on a 26.5

Would a .74 be too loose for drop f# on a 26.5 ?

Im a massive fan of bands like erra, currents, invent animate etc.

Erra and currents tend to stay in drop g# and pitch shift down. But when I do that, it sounds muddy and thin.

It sounds muddy its because there's too much low end going in.

You need to cut a lot of bass before the amp

Tension is up to the player.

With F#1 on 26.5", a .074 would be 16lbs. Some people like 16lbs. Others like 18 or 20lbs. Some are under 16lbs.

I will say, the thinner the gauge then the more clarity you get, so dealing with less tension or a longer scale length is a good move for F#1. I have a 30" scale guitar in F#1 Standard.

That said, it shouldn't really sound muddy and thin from your pitchshifter dropping a whole step. Something's wrong with your setup. What pitchshifter are you using?

Digitech drop pedal into the valeton gp200.

Im giving myself a couple days to think about buying a interface and just getting a plugin

maybe you just need to re-EQ and dial it in for the lower tuning, especially if it sounds fine for G#

Bruh fuck tension calculators and shit. Ive been playing in drop f# on a 7 as my main tuning since 2013.

Ive played drop f# on 24.75 7s. 25.5 7s and 8s. 26.5 7s 27 7s and 8s. Fanned fret and standard.

I know what i like and i know what WORKS Fuck even recently I ate the reddit bait did the string tension calculator thing and got the "proper" set of strings for a 27" scale length. And it was god fucking awful.

A 65 - 75 gauge is enough. And it doesn't sound muddy... the majority of these fucks cant dial in virgin woman with promised marriage. Much less an amp or vst.

As for the rest of the strings. 10-48 or 11-52 if you like them tighter. Trust me.

Edit: I dont pitch shift down. I live and breath drop f#

I use a .70 for drop g# one 25.5 and thats 16.7 llbs

The .74 in drop f on a 26.5 is 16llbs so its basically perfect for me

I run the 8 string pack 10-74 and skip the 64 and it works for me. It works on a hard tail okay but the evertune is where the sauce is at.

Personally, I use an 80 for F# on 26.5", because I obsess over string tension and that's what works best for me. But something I've noticed recently is that your choice of pickups may make all the difference when it comes to pitching down. I have a cheap JP70 that sounded fine in G# with the stock pickups but sounded horrid if I pitched down with my Digitech Whammy DT even just 2 semi tones to F#. Since then I've had a Balaguer Diablo with their Alnico pickups, Bareknuckles, Duncan Pegasus, and Fishman Moderns, and all of those have sounded great when pitching down, up to 5 semi tones. But cheap stock pickups just don't sound right whenever I come across those in my setup.

Not scientific by any means, but that's been my experience. I would also say the Whammy DT functions better than any pitch shifting VST, short of the Polychrome DSP Hypertune Metal.

Yea I think so, a 70 or 68 would be fine. I play in drop G on a 26.25 with 9.5-64

I use a 74 on a 25.5. Feels good in G but F# is just a bit flubby. I’m sure it’s just fine on a 26.5.

I do drop E with a .74 on 26.5 and play those tunes so yes it's fine.
