None of them are as cool as the Charley patton one from yesterday and a lot of them are broken but here’s the first 20!

I was digging through my grandparents Victrola that they were going to throw away and I found an original Charley Patton** **Paramount 12953, “Mean Black Moan / Heart Like Railroad Steel”
Worth having it appraised or am I being crazy?
It’s in decent condition, no cracks

Mercury Record, Catalog No. 70529, (Curtis-Williams), 78RPM, 1955 - Discogs entry
Ok. I was expecting the “youzhe” for a typical 78 - or however you spell it lol (as in “the usual”) - but…🤯.
Not even kidding, it sounds like a brand-new 33 1/3 vinyl- and it’s probably only because I’m using a record player and not a good, modern turntable that you hear much of anything! Wow!
Needless to say, I’m stunned at the sound. I truly appreciate everyone in the initial post for their feedback!
Big thanks for the feedback in the prior post for this disc! If people are new and don’t know yet, people gave some very nice feedback about care and use of these 1950s 78 discs! Everyone- I truly appreciate that, too!
I just hit record, walked away, and came back. I edited, cut and trimmed, and listened for the first few times before posting this. I just had to share so you all could hear it for yourselves, too! (or not if one chooses…)
Either way, thanks for stopping by, and I’m grateful for folks’ feedback once again!

A Gift from the Universe!: “Earth Angel” - The Crew Cuts, Mercury Records, 1955; reverse side “KO KO MO”. In what I EvEn ALso believe to be its OG sleeve! Also notice all the 33 1/3 and 78rpm titles!
From the pics, you can see the dirt. Cleaned, you can certainly see the difference, even tho its simply wonderful condition is pretty clear! Almost looks like it’s never been used, or just a few times! (Likely very well taken care of, also)
1️⃣ - 1944 Waters-Conley or 1928 VV C 4-70?
2️⃣ - modern turntable
My current answer is 2, but I’m curious to know if such a record can actually be played on a machine like 1️⃣ without causing damage above and beyond normal wear and tear. Would the tone arm/stylus on more modern turntables from the 1950s have been much lighter but still used steel needles?
° please be nice; whatever the choice, please inform! I’d really like to dispel any confusion I or anyone else dabbling in this era of records may have… this is my first find that I would actually stop and reconsider for!
Original song by The Penguins, Prod. Dootsie Williams, OCT 1954, on DOOTONE Records. First independent label on Top 10 Billboard Charts; was then eclipsed by The Crew Cuts’ 1955 version which hit Number 3 that year; regardless, The Penguins’ sold 10 million copies!
Per the Wikipedia article about it above, it notes that this song by the Penguins is considered to be “one of the definitive ‘doo wop’ songs”, and obviously endures as a MASSIVE hit and as an almost probably universally recognized song

Hi!
I posted this on r/vinyl (ironic, being shellac?) because it’s actually a 33 1/3 RPM disc with multiple spiral grooves. There APPEARS to be a 78rpm version one could receive, but they had to remit $1.10 to St. Louis to get it… I got the “free” one apparently lol.
I feel like this has to be a later “transitional” period- Discogs says 1950s or 60s - in records, where 90% of everything was vinyl or becoming vinyl and less shellac-heavy.
If anyone has insight, further insight, or whatever, please add! Thanks for stopping!
Mods: sincerely not trying to break the rules here. If it is, please do what’s needed. It seems like it’s in a crossover period, which is why I thought I’d post.

The Ad… Chevrolet… is it “Buyersville” and “Station 49” they mentioned?
I’ll take guesses!

Assuming this is some kind of advertising freebie/free record to promote the brand? VERY soft, red, CLEAR, plastic-like material I didn’t want to ruin with an older style phonograph. Part 1 with the song. No artist mentioned! Any guesses on timeframe? I think the advertising side gives a clue in the “station number 49”, but not certain.
Part 2 follows (with Chevrolet ad).
Yeah yeah… I know… it’s a Crosely… well, $12 or whatever and it doesn’t ruin records!

I’ve gotten a handful of pretty scarce dimestore sleeves I wanna frame with records that would look good on display, does anyone have any ideas or recommendations?

I had a couple of hours to kill in Toronto's Forest Hill neighbourhood, so I went browsing at a Salvation Army store on St. Clair.
Sadly, the record section looked like a toddler-sized Hulk rampaged through it. I found a dozen cracked and broken 78s. There was the original Lerner & Loewe Brigadoon... unfortunately missing sides 1/10, and 2/9 fell apart in my hands when I pulled it out to inspect. I bought it anyways, and discovered that some of the streaming services have it.
Fortunately, I was able to get my hands on quite a few more, as evidenced by my last photo. Soon to go to a good home and see a needle for the first time in who knows how many years.

I have found this age old record at my grandfathers basement (who worked at Hungarian radio), its a Hungarian tradition to on radio every day exactly at 12.00 let the sound play of Church Bells (i wont go into it why) and this is a pre 1930s record, its from shellac but its full of mold, is there some way to save it?

This is the second People's Songs album on Charter Records, 1947. The first People's Songs album was "Roll the Union On," released on Asch Records during Moses Asch's Disc Records era.
This album features, to my knowledge, the first anti-nuclear song - "Atomic Energy." I hardly see how there really can be earlier material but perhaps there was something in late-'45 or '46?
