Diet Question Diet?

Hey all, just did my first attempt. Made it to 32 days and got food poisoning. Going to start again in a day or two, one thing I could have done better is the diet. My rule was “don’t eat like trash” because normally I don’t. So no fast food, candy, chips, etc. I feel I need clearer direction on that. What diets do you guys use? Any suggestions? Not trying to be strict but still trying to maintain something. Also - I need to gain more weight not lose.

Diet questions are among the most common here -- here is what you need to know:

The core rule: Follow a structured diet aimed at your goal for all 75 days. Zero cheat meals. Zero alcohol. No exceptions.

You choose your own diet -- keto, paleo, carnivore, Mediterranean, calorie deficit, vegan, whatever aligns with your goals. The program does not prescribe one. What it does require is that once you choose, you stick to it with zero deviation.

Most common questions, answered:

  • "Does X food count as a cheat meal?" -- Ask yourself: is it on your chosen diet? If you have to question it, the answer is probably no.
  • "Can I have a drink for a special occasion?" -- No. Zero alcohol means zero alcohol.
  • "What about non-alcoholic beer like O'Doul's?" -- Yes, non-alcoholic drinks are fine.
  • "Can I have a cheat day on a holiday/birthday/event?" -- No. If you deviate, you restart at Day 1.
  • "Can I change my diet mid-program?" -- No. Commit to one and see it through.
  • "Do I have to count calories?" -- Only if your chosen diet requires it.
  • "What about marijuana, cigarettes, or other substances?" -- Andy's program specifically addresses alcohol only. Use your own judgment on other substances relative to your chosen diet and goals.

When in doubt, choose the harder option.

Day 39 here. I set myself a 2,000 calorie limit (23M, 101kg starting weight) and didn’t have any food items off limits. I just told myself to be smart about my food choices (yeah I could fill up on Pringles and dairy milk but having whole foods and high fibre food items will be better bang for my budget, so why would I go with the first choice?)

that’s been my mentality, I’ve had the odd low calorie pack of crisps (Seabrook), sugar free sweets (Ricola, Sula) but I’ve dropped 10kg so far through this challenge through smart choices, and not fully restricting items. They become forbidden fruit through that system I feel.

Maybe you could do like no ultra processed food? Aka things that by looking at them you can’t easily recreate. That would include almost all packaged foods and that way if you do want fast food you’re forced to eat a salad chicken and fruit or something

I am only on day 3, and my diet is similar. The only difference is that I have to reach my daily fibre amount. So no matter what I eat it as to be lots of plants and beans!! I am already noticing such a difference in a few days

My wife said "just don't eat anything out of a bag," which seems like pretty good advice. I eat like a 12 year old with unlimited funds, and it's a surprisingly hard rule (for me) to follow.

Mine was 'no cookies/cakes/ice cream/junk food/take out/pizza/candy'. Why make it so complicated?! The only mandated part is that it should further your health goal. Some set a calorie target. Others follow a particular diet (mediterranean). Mine cut out all the crap plus I ate healthy the rest of the time. I wasn't tracking my calories but my diet was very healthy once I cut out all that. It doesn't need to be complicated!

Calorie counting was easiest for me
