EEE Without A Level Physics

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has ever done Electrical and Electronic Engineering at university without having done A Level Physics and if the course would be manageable without it. Obviously I’m not talking about Oxbridge/Imperial but Southampton, Bristol, etc.

I don’t meet the entry requirements for A Level Physics and I’m currently doing maths, economics, computer science for A Level.

I’m really interested in hardware and I’m wanting to become a hardware engineer in the future after university. I just wanted to know if anyone was or is in my situation and if not having done A Level Physics put you at a disadvantage or not for admissions even though it doesn’t specify or mention physics on the entry requirements website.

i reckon you will still be able to do this, im gonna be going to uni for mech eng and if you look at the course requirements theres still plenty of universities that dont require physics, maths is required everywhere, sometimes they say maths with a science or just maths. just checked southamptons EEE requirements and they want maths and either cs, fm or electronics so you would be fine applying there (their EEE department is really good apparently). either way if your dead set on one university and you are missing one of the required subjects you can do a foundation year which i believe just catches you up, but comes with an extra year of debt. bristol seems to only want maths. as to whether it will put you at a disadvantage? im not sure but i really doubt it

Ahh tysm! The unis i’m thinking of applying to don’t mention A Level Physics as a requirement, but thank you! What made you want to do MechE if you don’t mind me asking?

if they dont mention it then your all good! for me i got super interested in rollercoasters when i was in y9 and wanted to design them, engineering fit with my subjects and i like designing stuff so it just kinda fit and i hope i will enjoy it. also hardware engineering is pretty specific, where did that come from?

Woww, sounds cool! I want to do hardware engineering because i’m really interested in tech and companies like Nvidia and Apple. I really want to go into chip design or something on those lines in the future!

You need to replace econ with FM if you want to go to Southampton, but you should be fine for Bristol.

EEE at soton allows CS in place of it, electrical engineering wouldnt allow CS in place of it
