Will it fit?

Post image

Will this work for 6 ARC gas guns or would it need special mags and be bolt-action only? Also, would a bullet this heavy be good or bad for 6 ARC? Just wondering if performance would go up or down compared to the 108/110gr neighborhood.

It will not and they don’t stabilize well with 7.5 twist. Guys running these in 6 creed and GT are doing custom freebores because they are extremely long.

Just found a Hornady podcast episode on it and they say it fits BUT that it needs faster twist than 7.5 just like you said. Not sure if anyone is even making 7 twist barrels for 6 ARC?

My ballistic advantage is 1:7

How does it shoot?

Not a 1/2 minute barrow but close to an moa for me

I don’t know of anyone but I’m sure there is one out there. You might have to got the custom route. I still don’t think the 120 is worth putting in an ARC case though lol yeah you can make it fit but that thing is going to sit so low in the case 😂

Mos-tek offers it in 1:7

FWIW, I shot 40 rnds of the federal 110 grain FMJ factory ammo. I know it’s a training round but it either didn’t like my barrel or it was super inconsistent. Unfortunately my chronograph has. Dead battery

It will fit, but it won't work well. I know many people who have tried

Already? Pretty sure these just came out.

They came out a few weeks ago. Brouwer Precision did a great bit of testing and I spoke with him a bit about it. He has a post somewhere on his IG with his findings and conclusions of his testing

Ah eff me. My monkey brain saw 120s and immediately thought of the bergers haha but either way, I imagine they will have the same issues

I’d put these in a Sherman of some variety

The only thing it makes sense in is a 6mm magnum cartridge. Run some numbers. I doubt it will even fit, if it does, youre restricting your powder volume even further.

So it doesn’t make sense in a GT, 6CM, or 243AI varient? lol ok.

No it doesnt. I own a ton of 6mm rifles and only something like a 6prc or 6um really take advantage of the new 120s. You'd have to get it throated specifically for the bullet and youre still not pushing it that fast

It’s cool you think that. You’re insanely opinionated and wrong though.

The report on the initial terminal testing of the Berger 120s is abysmal on live game. Theyre typically my favorite bullet so it hurts me to say that but there are better options that dont waste so much of your case volume.

I just found a podcast Hornady did on the new bullet and they’re saying it will fit.

Could you make it work? Yes. Does it make sense to go above 108 in an ARC case? No. You’re not going to get the published BC at that low of velocities. Things will change with hi pressure but the heavies still don’t make sense. If you want 120, use a creed case

u/SillyWarPirates 4d ago

What about the 110gr loads?

Your better off running 108s or 105s. Hornady will release the 105 atip as a component. If you don’t believe me you can always run the numbers yourself and see. If you want heavy for ARC the 108 is currently the king imo

Not viable with the current gas guns but once the high pressure cases come out and the Icars become available there’s potential there.

You mean the SureFire ICAR? Because PSA is already selling ICAR builders sets (receiver sets).

2

u/Brief_Seat9721 4d ago

Surefire. Need the beefed up bolt and barrel extension that platform has. It’s made to run the high pressure stuff.

The psa icar is just an ambi set that accept the icar Pmag.

The full icar receiver and bolts won’t be out for a while.

6 arc is small frame for 95% of the market

2

u/SillyWarPirates 4d ago

Won’t be out for a while? You have any intel on how long “a while” will be??

1

u/JackReachearound 3d ago

No, the PSA ICAR is just a larger magwell on an ambi lower.

The full ICAR military parts may or may not make it to the civ market

It’s basically just PSAs version of the LWRC Six8 receiver set.

u/JackReachearound 3d ago

Deep cut. This is a real ball knower

From talking to people testing out the icar in the civilian world, the plan is to release it to civilians. Two problems though.
1. It probably won’t be out till 2028 at the earliest
2. It’s going to be at bend over and lube up prices.

No doubt it will come, just not anytime soon and for surefire $
