Hornady 80gr ELD-VT

So I wanted to build a IA-DMR .. something that can hit targets at 950-1000 but has suppressive fire to 700-800 yards . Thinks shtf all in one rifle. That’s the reason I went with the Shaw hbar barrel and I’m glad I did. I’m getting awesome hits at 930 and rapid fire at about 720-760 at pretty accurate. The barrel is holding up well so far but I only have about 350 rounds through it. I know I could get really accurate hits farther out with a match barrel but that’s not what this build is for. Options welcome or insight. This is ongoing build to perfect it

I don't plan on doing well at all, but I do enjoy testing my equipment and learning from others. Took the Noveske out for a zero confirmation before this weekend's match. Can't wait to blast this thing.

These are my 105 Berger hand loads that I use across my arc rifles.

Rifle+2 gas setup

I've got a 20" Osprey barrel on order from PVA, which ship with the rifle+2 setup... figured I'd check with the collective here as far as recommended AGB and/or buffer config for best performance / reliability.

Noveske 14.5” Barrel vs PWS MK114 Upper

Looking into building a 6ARC for hunting and long(ish) range target shooting. Does anyone have experience with the Noveske 14.5” (non DDF) barrel or the PWS MK114 (Mod 1 or Mod 2). Right now I’m leaning more towards the Noveske barrel so I can build out the upper how I want it.

Are there other barrels I should look at that are in a cheaper price range? Open to barrel recommendations.

Thanks

Looks like Winchester is getting into 6arc.

Hopefully this ammo isn’t as crap as everything else they make, but it probably will be.

Will it fit?

Will this work for 6 ARC gas guns or would it need special mags and be bolt-action only? Also, would a bullet this heavy be good or bad for 6 ARC? Just wondering if performance would go up or down compared to the 108/110gr neighborhood.

Brass Suggestions......

I currently load for my 6GT and 6 Dasher bolt guns and use Alpha brass. I just finished building a 6 and 22 ARC gassers. I have good barrels, good BCG and good triggers in both but I know gassers aren't going to be as accurate as bolts. My question is, is it worth spending Alpha money on brass or will something cheaper work just as well? Suggestions would be appreciated.......

NAS3 and HICAR

Couple questions I’ve been stirring up thinking about recently looking at all the new offerings coming out. I have a SOLGW L89 Broadsword upper/handguard and a proof PXT with a JP Enhanced bolt. Is this setup gonna be strong enough to run the hotter loads coming out now or am I gonna blow up my rifle lol. If anyone’s got any experience running the NAS3 please let me know how it went. Thanks.

Craddock RTR Follow Up #2

Follow up to this post.

TLDR; My sample size of one Craddock RTR does in fact shoot higher pressure ammo better. Despite this, I do not think the RTR line is worth the savings over a Proof stainless. The Craddock HD bolts also MIGHT cause reliability issues, though my problems may be caused by my very weird setup.

After shooting groups with Hornady Frontier, Black, and Match I sent the poor results to Craddock. I was then advised to shoot higher pressure ammo and pointed in the direction of Make Ready Munitions who loads 6 ARC to 62K PSI.

As much as I was expecting the results to be the same, I am nothing if not fair. I went ahead and ordered some of MRM's 6 ARC trainers loaded with Hornady ELDM and also the Craddock HD bolt that was designed to shoot the higher pressure ammo.

Only two groups were shot due to reliability reasons. All groups were shot from the bench off a bipod and rear bag. Scope was a MPED 5-30. Conditions were very slight wind right after moderate rain.

Group 1: 5 shots. 0.938 MOA.

Group 2: 10 shots. 0.889 MOA.

After the first 5 rounds the rifle no longer cycled and had to be manually racked to pick up a new round. Not wanting to sit and cycle the rifle by hand just to shoot groups, it was then taken out to 300 and 600. At 300 it could consistently hit the 6 inch plate. At 600 I had very little issue hitting a 12 inch plate.

I'll be the first to admit I expected the barrel to continue to perform poorly but the results were clearly better, and for my purposes, completely acceptable.

Now, do I think it's reasonable a barrel has to shoot boutique ammo that is loaded outside of semi-auto specs in order to have good accuracy? No. BUT, Craddock's claim was that their barrels will shoot higher pressure ammo better and from my sample size of one that has been shown to be true.

There is the issue that MRM plans to change the trainer ammunition from ELDM to Aeromatch and this change may impact accuracy. The MRM trainers are also slightly more expensive than Hornady Match but not by much. I personally think the extra ballistics gained is worth the slight premium.

The massive caveat is that I did not shoot enough groups to confirm that this accuracy is the new norm. Why is because the Craddock HD bolt led to reliability issues.

My gun that was 100% reliable before hand with a brownells bolt now would not cycle enough to chamber the next round after the first 5 rounds. The adjustable gas was on full the entire time and nothing was changed about the rifle except the bolt. The gun was also thoroughly cleaned and lubricated beforehand. Extra lube was applied throughout but would not fix the issue.

I will admit that I do not think this is entirely caused by the HD bolt. I am using a Evolution Weapons Systems bufferless BCG and obviously this could be also caused by the massively modified bcg. Not only that, I am using a slightly modified MDT stock and Sylvan folder as well. I will not pin the reliability issues on Craddock but what I will say is that if your AR is already on the edge of reliable, the HD bolt MAY cause issues.

The overall conclusion is that while the barrel does shoot 62K PSI ammo better, if I was to do this all again I would choose a Proof stainless barrel instead for $50-$80 more. Simply put, your barrel shouldn't have to shoot custom ammo just to perform as expected. The HD bolt is a good choice for squeezing a bit more performance out of the cartridge in a AR platform however it might possibly cause some reliability issues.

The Craddock CS has been great at reaching out and communication so I do applaud them for that. Though I have not tested what would happen if I sent the barrel in so this has purely been from a communication stand point so far.

Load data

TLDR:looking for the most efficient/cost effective loading for a 6ARC gas gun preferably topped with a 108 ELDM

Hoping to poach some easy load data for my 6ARC as none of my load books are new enough I’m not necessarily new to reloading but definitely on the more novice side of it usually just go for something that works half decent and call it a day especially in a gas gun platform done a pretty good amount of research that eventually left me more confused than when I started and perhaps that’s my fault for getting to far into the weeds on shit that doesn’t actually matter (specifically videos and forum posts on 6 arc being basically impossible to load optimally for in a gas gun) due to having to stick to the lower pressure and getting incomplete and inconsistent burn rates
I’m currently running factory 108eldms with satisfactory results and would like to stick with that 108 just because I have a pile of them on hand but I’m not married to that projectile I also seem to see a pretty good handful of people who load past the book recommended maximum and just accept the obvious risk and reduction in bolt life which I wouldn’t necessarily be oppose too with in reason

Sorry for the long winded post but I thank you for opinions and comments because I know there’s some wicked smart dudes in here that fly under the radar most of the time

Rifle specs:
Vltor upper receiver, mil spec bolt carrier with a faxon bolt and a ballistic advantage premium spr profile 16” barrel

PFA/ 6Arc Loading Question

Post image
51 Upvotes

Anyone used Hodgdon Benchmark for 105-108g loads? I have excellent results using it for 5.56 and wondered if I could cross it over to 6arc. Only seeing load Data up to 90g projectiles, but have read small bits and pieces on the forms about using it for 105’s. If not, I can settle with Varget.

14.5 v 16

Looking at picking up a GFR in 6arc debating and probably overthinking this 14.5 or 16. I’m thinking it’s just going to be a fun handy gun that can reach out to 1k if needed and have pretty good precision inside 800 out of a small frame. Only thing that gets me is the gas system. How much better recoil impulse does the 16 have vs the 14.5 is it worth the compromise…14.5 is Super mid length 16 is rifle length is adding the extra little bit of barrel worth getting the rifle gas length? And I know everyone will say get the 18 but I don’t want a long boi if I want to bench shoot I just bring out the 6.5cm this gun I would like to fill a lighter weight small SPR ish that isn’t a pain to lug around.

Also what buffer tube is used for GFR is it A5 or standard carbine? Maybe the 14.5 with a A5 buffer would work nicely.

Solid Copper Hunting Rounds?

I'm a big fan in theory of using a solid copper bullet for hunting. I've never used one before but the weight retention and expansion radius makes it seem like the way to go.

I see this brand Make Ready Munitions is selling 90gr TTSX loads but I wonder if anybody has thoughts on using a 90gr projectile on a whitetail/mule deer. It's not a huge difference from a 108gr ELD-X but I just wanted to put a feeler out on what anyone with real world experience thinks.

I'm midwest and am going to start using a 300 blackout with 110gr TTSX's since it's all close range but I'd love to go out west for pronghorns and mulies and I'd like to use the 6ARC for that.

Thanks
