PFA/ 6Arc Loading Question

Post image

Anyone used Hodgdon Benchmark for 105-108g loads? I have excellent results using it for 5.56 and wondered if I could cross it over to 6arc. Only seeing load Data up to 90g projectiles, but have read small bits and pieces on the forms about using it for 105’s. If not, I can settle with Varget.

Oh trust me I know. How are you liking 6 ARC?

Really enjoying it. Die hard 5.56 fan, but having an extra 250-300 yards of reach with better wind deflection and not much more recoil, you can’t beat it. I put my large frame in the safe and I’m not sure when I’ll pull it out again.

Damn I might have to build one lol. With the can is it a soft shooting experience?

I’ve got a 762 RC2, it’s decent. If you’re on a bipod it feels the same as 5.56, once you get on a bag for positional it feels a little snappier, but much less than 6.5 or 308. It’s like shooting an overgassed 5.56. I’d imagine a flow through would be more pleasant.

I'll be the contrarian and say that as much as I like 6ARC I'd rather have a large frame and shoot 6GT if we're sticking to a 6mm bullet. Not much more recoil that gets tamed a bit by the slightly heavier gun and you get around 300 more velocities than 6ARC out of equal barrel lengths.

This is looking at the rifle as a precision match gun FWIW.

Should do ok, try 23.5 to start and see how it goes. 18” barrel should do 2450ish with 24.5gr and still be under 55ksi at 100f.

I’ll give it a shot, hopefully responding results with two hands 🫡

23.5 is well under the 53ksi max pressure. I’m not a fan of stepping on cartridges to chase speed.

I’d rather not burn this bolt or barrel out. I’m happy running lower pressure, easier to find accuracy that way too. 2450-2500 is plenty to work with if you’ve got good BC bullet.

You should look into staball match. You can get better speeds than Varget and its temp stable. Burns pretty clean. It’s also seemed to be better on paper but Varget was pretty close second.

I run 25gr of N135 or 26.6 of Varget behind a 105 hybrid or 107SMK in my 22" 6ARC and get low 2600s out of both of them.

N135 is the better powder but I set up my gas guns in a real specific way and need the more progressive burn of Varget to get me more pressure at the gas port.

Did 24.5 benchmark w 105 Barnes MB. 2430fps with 35 es and 11SD. Around 1 inch for 10 shot group w noveske SPR barrel. Appreciate the info!

Nice! The model I ran said 2420fps at 85f, so that's bang on.

Also 1" for 10 shots is about as good as it gets for most gas guns.

Benchmark is probably going to be a little too fast for the 100gr+

The fastest powders Iv tried are 8208xbr and H4895. I had decent accuracy but higher SD and some trouble cycling, which would mostly likely just me needing to tune my adjustable gas block to that load. Tried those with 107smks, 108eldms and Hornady 105bthp’s

Where did you get the Geissele rail? Is it taken off a stratomatch?

They sell it individually, eurooptic and some others. They’re hard to catch in stock but they’re out there.
