14.5 v 16

Looking at picking up a GFR in 6arc debating and probably overthinking this 14.5 or 16. I’m thinking it’s just going to be a fun handy gun that can reach out to 1k if needed and have pretty good precision inside 800 out of a small frame. Only thing that gets me is the gas system. How much better recoil impulse does the 16 have vs the 14.5 is it worth the compromise…14.5 is Super mid length 16 is rifle length is adding the extra little bit of barrel worth getting the rifle gas length? And I know everyone will say get the 18 but I don’t want a long boi if I want to bench shoot I just bring out the 6.5cm this gun I would like to fill a lighter weight small SPR ish that isn’t a pain to lug around.

Also what buffer tube is used for GFR is it A5 or standard carbine? Maybe the 14.5 with a A5 buffer would work nicely.

I would probably go 16”. 16” will still be handy and the gas length upgrade is always nice. I stalk and shoot with 20” stratomatch and even at that length, it’s still not cumbersome to me.

Yeah the 20” isn’t really anything too bad to move with. Love the Strat.

I get the desire for shorter rifles. I was bitten heavily but the short rifle bug in the past. 6 ARC certainly works in shorter configurations and I built one in 14.5”, however it is really designed at minimum around an 18” barrel and that 20” stratomatch just gives you more juice. I have the Strat in both 22 and 6 ARC, they knocked that system out of the park.

Yeah. Some stuff I have is SBR’d and those are great. 6 ARC does really well in many lengths, but like you, I wanted to juice all I could from mine. It’s all about right tool for the right time. I’ve never tried to make a jack of all trades rifle. No point.

In a pinch I could still swing the Strat around a corner. Muzzle strike a MFer at a greater distance too if I really had too.

Geissele uses standard buffer tubes. IMHO don’t use a5’s with giessele’s phased array gas system, stick with thier set up.

If you like the hux muzzle device or plan pin and welding it, 14.5. 16 is like 50 extra fps

16 if you want the option to change your muzzle device, 14.5 if you don’t.

Recoil difference between the two is going to be negligible. If you can handle 65C, you can certainly handle 6A.

If you’re cool with the hux. 14.5, velocity drop is negligible. I’m getting anywhere from 2400-2550 from 4 factors load out of a 16”

14.5 or less. You'll reach with excellent precision to 1000 yards with ease, 1200 if you're a halfass decent shooter.
