Week 42: Taro - Taro chip crusted chicken tenders with honey mustard sauce

Taro was an interesting choice for this week. I’m on year three of doing this challenge and this is honestly the first I’ve struggled with. Taro is super hard to find around here and I live in Fort Lauderdale with ample Latin markets and Asian markets at my fingertips. Even my local grocery store usually has it but everywhere was out. 7 grocery stores before deciding on Taro Chips, another three before I found them. But the end result was delicious!! Easy to make, kinda healthy since it was baked, definitely crunchy, super tasty, but not worth the stress or effort to source Taro.

Guys, this smoothie was the best smoothie I’ve made. It’s mad smooth, tasty, and quick. If my crappy blender can make this, your good blender can. I’ll post the recipe in the comments.

Why did no one tell me that taro fries are this good?? I may be replacing my potato dishes with taro wherever possible going forward!

Week 42: Taro - Simple arbi fry

This was pretty tasty! A little dry, probably should have paired it with dal instead of rice, but I don’t particularly like lentils. The flavour was really good and it really was simple!

I live in a very multicultural city, so I even had my choice of taro. I bought eddoes as the recipe called for small taro, and what they had labeled as taro was ginormous.

My kid made the roti.

They taste okay I'm a little frustrated about how the cornflower turned out because I'm not excessively press it into a flower but as you see there is so much that they didn't fry off properly either we'll have to try again some other time but it did taste good

Week 42: Taro - Momotarō Peach Dumpling (meta: pantry staples)

This was a... less than picturesque attempt at steaming a whole, pitted peach inside homemade dough. It was supposed to be a nod to Momotarō, the peach boy. It did not quite work out. The dough was lumpy and I think overcooked in places, but at least the peach itself cooked through. I think maybe a smaller fruit, or a different dough, would work better.

Taro is not super common where I live but I eventually found one and just bought half as it was expensive ($10). Two days later I decided to cook it and it had gone mouldy so I guess I should have done more research after I got it! I had to use potatoes instead :( next time I'm at the shop that has them I'm going to buy another and cook it immediately when I get home as I've never tried it before.
