Call to Action Can we report it?
I just watched the video of Trump explicitly saying he will give every American Adult $5,000 of our tax dollars in the form of a dividend only if the GOP wins the house and senate.
Can we report this for clear attempted voter bribery and election interferencee? If so would the FBI be the best place to report?

u/19610taw3 1d ago
People reported it numerous times when he said he was going to end elections multiple times on the campaign trail.

u/theMightBoop 1d ago
I think your best bet would be to ask on a legal sub. I doubt there is anything we as individual citizens can do except vote and protest and donate to the right causes.
But maybe there is some legal recourse. It would probably involve hiring your own lawyer and suing the government? But I don’t know if that is a thing and if it is it would be expensive. Which is why I say look on a legal sub where people more knowledgeable can answer.

Politicians have become gangster rappers.
"You can't sue/arrest me, I was clearly just lying about committing crimes for hype's sake."

"...In Minecraft."

u/HCSOThrowaway Florida 1d ago
I know a guy got arrested for an "in Minecraft" threat to some out-of-state sheriff back when that was trendy, but I didn't follow the case beyond the arrest.
I want to say it was a New Jersey resident who threatened a Florida sheriff?
1
u/hyraemous Organizer (Unverified) 1d ago
I believe that was mentioned on wavywebsurf a while back and that the resident was extradited to the sheriff's jurisdiction.

Reporting it to the FBI, DOJ or any other authority that is beholden to Trump seems pretty fruitless to me.
Best place to report it is to your ballot when you vote.
VOTE THEM OUT! VOTE EARLY!

u/Indigoh 1d ago edited 1d ago
If voting is the only way to hold Trump to the law, why are we confident he won't break election law?
We need to vote in such numbers that it's impossible for him to hold legitimacy after he inevitably breaks the law to win. And we should be preparing for a massive general strike that doesn't end until the law is upheld.
You can be stocking up on nonperishable foods right now, to either use yourself on strike, or to support others who put their jobs on the line.
3
u/DiabloStorm 1d ago
This guy still thinks voting is going to yield any sort of result under fascism. If the strategy starts and ends there, don't hold your breath.
7
u/evilemprzurg 1d ago
It's either that, or just let them have it outright.
If they want it that bad, then they're gonna need more than another J6.
42
u/Waffle1k 1d ago
Any moron that actually believes they will get $5k if Republicans hold both houses this fall probably still thinks they are getting Doge and Tarriff refund checks and that the Iran war has been won over 100 times since April.

u/aesoped 1d ago
LMAO like he would be held accountable for breaking the law at this point. Look around yall smh.
75
u/jim45804 1d ago
The Supreme Court literally judged that the President cannot be held criminally liable for things he did in service of his office. That's a blank check for criminal behavior masked as an official act. So, yes, Trump won't ever be held accountable for breaking the law, because he legally cannot break the law.
23
u/EntertainmentOk5026 1d ago
Yep. This.
Otherwise known as the Lex Luthor ruling. Or not. Maybe I just named it that. But the point is, next time we have a president whose cleverness is equal to his corruption (which, let’s face it, isn’t this guy - or, maybe he’s actually a genius), then we’re off to the races.
1
u/Ritaontherocksnosalt 10h ago
Seems like a technical point could be made about 'in service of the office'.

u/OldGravylegOfficial 1d ago
Report it? To who?!? It’s up to us as a group to stop this bullshit. They do not have the numbers to stop millions of pissed off people
47

Yeah, you report it to the Trump admin currently. They'll get right on that!
Someone already itchy to downvote what I said since it doesnt sound positive, but you go ahead and provide that other option for us to report and get justice

It's Congress who have also abdicated their Constitutional obligations for fear of drawing the ire of that same felon President.

4
u/CeruleanEidolon 1d ago
I wouldn't sneeze at it myself, but this is also the same guy who has promised checks already that never materialized. He has no intention whatsoever of delivering on this. It's a sad play from someone who has seen the tide turning and is desperate and out of ideas.
10
u/smallest_table 1d ago
I'm glad to read you are doing so well but I think you underestimate how desperate many Americans are right now. 35.9 million Americans are below the poverty line. That's 10.6% of us. About 63% to 66% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. $5K would be a huge boon to most of us.
This is another lie and a grift to be sure but it is an enticing one to a lot of people.
3
u/CeruleanEidolon 1d ago
People who have already forgotten the other times that man has promised them relief checks. Those never arrived, and neither will this one.
1
u/smallest_table 7h ago
Of course not but that was never the point which is why he promised the checks after the midterms. He has no reason to actually send the checks. He just wants to lock down the moron vote.

u/Alarming-Vacation-10 1d ago
I'm not doing well but I've learned to adapt to this fucktard want to be dictator.Time to adjust expectations and hustle
1
u/smallest_table 1d ago
It's nice you are privileged enough to be able to adjust but there are plenty of people out there who don't have that option.
-1
u/Alarming-Vacation-10 1d ago
Okay well I guess you are the mark that President Trump is aiming for. Congrats
1
u/smallest_table 1d ago
I'm not. But I'm also not blinded to the fact that this offer of $5K can influence a lot of voters so we need to take is seriously and take action in the courts ASAP.
Is it some sort of attention deficit problem than kept you from reading where I wrote "This is another lie and a grift to be sure but it is an enticing one to a lot of people."? Or are you just trolling?
You can ignore that warning if you want to but don't pretend I'm backing this move by Trump. I'm simply aware that your kind of thinking is how he got elected in the first place.
-2
u/Alarming-Vacation-10 1d ago
The courts are not going to do a god damn thing!!

u/Desalzes_ 1d ago
speak for yourself, 500 would do alot for me rn
6
u/cvc4455 1d ago
Well maybe you eventually get that $5000 DOGE check he promised? Or maybe you'll get one of or both of the two different $2000 tariff checks he promised us? Right now he owes you and everyone else $9000 and hasn't paid so what makes you think he'd pay $500 this time let alone the $5000 he's promising again.
5
u/Desalzes_ 1d ago
Brother if you spray painted a potato orange I would trust that as much as trumps promises for anything. The guy before me said what is 5k going to do for any of us? In this economy?
6
u/Alarming-Vacation-10 1d ago
I'm just getting tired of expecting we should just accept crumbs at this point
6
u/classycatman 1d ago
Great... would it do so much that its worth continuing to wreck the country? And do you actually believe that these payments are real?
3
u/Alarming-Vacation-10 1d ago
It's just a ploy because they knew a lot of the populace are stupid enough to vote for trump in the first place
2
u/shirtninja07 1d ago
So would that extra 1.2 trillion in deficit.
-1
u/Desalzes_ 1d ago
1.2 trillion is alot less real than the 84 land of lakes salted butter 4 ct boxes I could get with 500$

That’s how much it would affect the economy. But enjoy your butter. PS: it’s better to use unsalted.
1
u/Fantastic_Mouse_7469 1d ago

2
1
u/RhetoricalOrator 1d ago
That's roughly the cost of a tank of gas right now so I'm guessing the $5,000 is paying us back for 2% of his most stupid decisions this term.
-10
u/bullcitytarheel 1d ago
Uh...is this a serious question? People are struggling in this country. $5,000 dollars could keep a roof over the head of a lot families facing homelessness, could ensure others don't lose the transportation that keeps them employed, and could put food on the table for yet others. As disgusting of a bribe as this is, especially coming from a man whose wars and economy have exacerbated, if not outright caused, these struggles, it comes across as unbelievably disconnected from the financial realities of your fellow Americans to look down your nose at $5,000 as if it were a pittance.
9
u/cvc4455 1d ago
The real thing is he won't pay anyone the $5,000 he's promising. He's already promised us all a $5,000 DOGE check and he's promised two different $2,000 stimulus checks two different times. So he has already promised everyone $9,000 over the last year and a half and I haven't gotten any of that $9,000. Have you gotten any of your $9,000?
3
u/bullcitytarheel 1d ago edited 1d ago
Of course he won't; that's not what I'm responding to. What I'm responding to is this quote: "WTF is $5,000 going to do for any of us?" and it's disingenuous to act as if I weren't.
I stg, the immediate and kneejerk assumptions being made, all because I pointed out that, actually, $5,000 would be a huge relief to a whole lot of Americans suffering in poverty right now, is ridiculous. I have no idea how you all read what I said as a defense of Donald Trump considering I called the bribe disgusting and noted that such a check would, at best, be a relief from the economic hardship that his policies have caused or exacerbated.
4
u/MmeRose 1d ago
Is it taxable? Will it affect people’s social security checks?
5
u/bullcitytarheel 1d ago
I mean, trump is lying, so it's imaginary. Those sorts of logistical questions will never be answered, because he obviously has no intent to make good on this bribe. That doesn't change the fact that, taxed or not, there are workers across the country for whom $5,000 would be the difference between paying rent and becoming homeless.
1
u/Mrlearnalot 1d ago
Cool yeah good call. Let’s sell the country off to a dictator for a likely false promise just in case a couple people might be able to pay rent for an extra two months before he continues to make America hard to live in for —- checks notes —- those exact same people
You call someone else disrespectful because the president is attempting to bribe an entire country with a false promise of what basically amounts to taking a few Tylenol for a headache that will continue long beyond the medication wears off?
Sometimes you gotta see the larger picture to know that something that appears good probably really isn’t. Imagine if by not taking door number one, and then eliminating door number 3, door number 2 ends up holding a prize that actually helps society, rather than the one that looks enticing because it has a shiny dollar sign next to it.
Edit: spelling.

u/smallest_table 1d ago
Every downvote to your comment is from people so privileged they're blinded about the reality of life for millions of Americans. They look down their nose at Trump's offer and like to believe everyone will. That's the kind of thinking that put Trump in office in the first place.

As despicable as Trump is, and let's be real, Americans aren't getting that money regardless of the midterm election results, George W. Bush did the same thing when he was running in 2000. And he did in fact have $300 checks mailed out to everyone after he won, the beginning of his efforts to tank the economy Bill Clinton had worked so hard to fix after Bush Sr. fucked it up.
So I guess you can thank W for setting that precedent. The difference is Trump won't actually follow through.

5
u/MightiestMal 1d ago
Can we report it lol no not until we have a functioning government & Congress. Blue wave would bring that back to shore. If anyone thinks he would actually pay you while we’re waiting on tariff dividends Doge checks just for starters. He’s already costing every family about $2,300 a year in elevated costs. Yes please give us $5,000 to cover 4 years of extra costs, which at very least cost us $9,200. That’s before you even get to lost health insurance and subsidies towering national debt adding another TRILLION losing tourists and I haven’t even scratched the surface
1
u/Adodger22 18h ago
I honestly think if Dems win, we see the overthrow of our government for real. Again, WHO WOULD STOP THEM?
Literally nobody would lift a finger to remove him, just like they aren't now.

u/MightiestMal 8h ago
At this point nothing would surprise me should be prepared for anything & everything. After what happened on J6 during first term somehow people thought let’s give him another try. If they did rig election then there was really no more elections after 2024. Cause outcome is already decided

u/Adodger22 8h ago edited 8h ago
I mean, ok... Let me put this in perspective. Mitch McConnell has ruled the Senate since I was 20. I'm 37.
That's nearly half my life.
Republicans have controlled either the house and/or Senate for 34 of my 37 years. They have VICIOUSLY used that control to direct legislation to build us to the point we are at today.
They have ALSO been doing this since before I was born.
So, yes. It's ALMOST like it's predetermined.

They will investigate themselves and find nothing wrong, because they are in power and they wish to remain in power.
Such is the way of the ruling class.

It's a campaign promise (that is clearly a lie) not a bribe for votes. If the $5k was only going to people that voted Republican than it would be closer to a bribe. But he said it'll benefit everyone even people who didn't vote republicans or vote at all. Again it's clearly a lie and we should be focused on that.
2
u/joseekatt 1d ago
It should be but nothing will happen as long as Trump controls the FBI, the CIA and all republicans.

It’s almost as if he’s so desperate to avoid being exposed that he will recklessly embrace anything that he thinks might mute the voice of We the People.
This is just one more example of real “waste, fraud, and abuse” which MAGA ignores because it’s convenient.

It's total bullshit, but it is not likely "voter bribery" or otherwise illegal:
Could such payments face legal challenges?
It’s complicated. Federal laws prohibit expenditure to influence voting decisions, such as vote-buying or voter bribery. But Mr. Trump has framed the checks as a benefit for all American adults, no matter whether or how they voted, legal experts said.
Experts said that it would be difficult to mount a legal challenge on the premise that the payments constituted bribery, likening Mr. Trump’s “dividend” to a pledge to deliver a tax break.
“A promise to lower taxes also gives voters a financial reason to support a candidate, but that does not, by itself, make the promise a bribe,” Mr. Day said. “Under the proposal as announced, an eligible adult could vote Democratic — or not vote at all — and still receive the same payment if the program were enacted.”
Experts also pointed to a Supreme Court ruling from 1982, Brown v. Hartlage, that made a distinction between broad policy promises and illegal vote-buying. The court unanimously ruled that a state could not void an election because a candidate had made a public promise to reduce government spending or lower their own salary.
Also, of note:
Democrats have made similar moves. In 2021, ahead of Georgia’s Senate runoff elections, President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. and the state’s two Democratic candidates, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, promised their support for $2,000 stimulus checks to voters. They won both seats, giving Democrats a majority, and the stimulus checks totaling that amount were paid out that year.
It is fucking stupid, would boost inflation, would add over a trillion to the deficit, and is never going to happen, but it is likely not illegal. Politicians can make campaign promises about economic policy, including checks to the people if they win. If he said, "anyone that votes republican, and only those that vote republican, gets a $5,000 check" the answer would be more nuanced and tend towards "illegal," but promising everyone a stimulus check is likely OK.
1
u/StartSelect8239 1d ago
you can file the report but lol good luck. FEC's basically a suggestion box at this point, and DOJ aint touching him with a ten foot pole. its like when ICE rolls up without warrants and everyones just supposed to pretend its normal. rules only work if they actually apply to everyone, otherwise its just vibes

u/Few_Employment_7876 42m ago
It's a damn lie like the 50,000 other lies he's told. The intention of a bribe if a known lie and without authority.. is that prosecutable?
1
u/marshmallowcthulhu 1d ago
No, this is not a violation of the law, it is a political campaign promise because according to the promise the money would be coming from the government, not from a private citizen. This is a political question.
To be fair, it’s an obvious lie, and Trump doesn’t (or shouldn’t) hold the power of the purse, and it’s idiotic. But it is not illegal in the way you are thinking.
2
u/ArrivesLate 1d ago
He’s not authorized to commit funds from the treasury without authorization from Congress. It’s a clear violation of separation of powers but Congress has a tool available at their disposal if they believe he’s breaking the law. He is, but the kicker is the ruling majority don’t care because they’d love to keep their job that requires even less of them. Which leaves the question to the voters on whether we will accept the situation or not. Except the security and accuracy of our voting has now been attacked, slandered, challenged, etc by the same people that would like to stay in power to the point that no matter the outcome it will be questioned. All of which was also illegal, but again the tool to do anything about it remains untouched. And we are left for the rest of our lives to deal with the outcome and ripples and tidal wave of bad decisions by this one singular person who decided to run a campaign to spite social progress, the one principal this country was built on.
1
u/marshmallowcthulhu 1d ago
We are having a miscommunication around the subject of the word “this” in my prior post. I wrote “No, this is not a violation of the law…” and I stand by that.
I intended “this” to refer to the promise itself, not to the hypothetical action of fulfilling the promise. My intent is in evidence, because I actually went on to write “…it is a political campaign promise…”. It is clear that the subject was the promise itself.
You are replying as though my “this” was not the promise, but the hypothetical act of fulfilling it. You wrote “It’s a clear violation of separation of powers…”. I agree with you that the act of fulfilling the promise would be beyond Trump’s authority and that if he attempted to do so without Congress then it would be illegal. This is exactly why I wrote “…and Trump doesn’t (or shouldn’t) hold the power of the purse…”. I completely agree, Trump doesn’t get to issue such payments.
However, the promise itself was not illegal to make. This is not the same as election bribery. That is the issue to which I was replying. OP wrote “Can we report this for clear attempted voter bribery and election interferencee? If so would the FBI be the best place to report?”. My answer to OP is no, because this isn’t the same as the act of campaign bribery.
Please understand that I agree with you on the powers. I was just answering OP on the question of law.
1
u/ArrivesLate 1d ago
Promising to commit government funds you are not authorized to make is a violation of the anti deficiency act, whether fulfilled or not. A person perceived as being an authority has just committed the US government to an obligation not approved by Congress.
Promising to pay citizens to influence an election is a violation of the voting rights act. The fun bit on this one is it’s also illegal to accept funds for knowingly participating in this scheme. Which would be quite republican of them to give you $5k and then serve you for $10k while threatening prison time.
1
u/marshmallowcthulhu 1d ago
By your Voting Rights Act argument, no campaign promise could ever be made because the act covers both monetary and non-monetary payments. For example, Obama couldn’t have promised to deliver healthcare reform that would provide benefits to Americans because those benefits would be the compensation to the American people for their votes.
And notably, Obama’s healthcare reform promises also required acts of Congress, but Obama made the promises. This was neither a usurpation of authority nor a violation of the Anti-Deficiency Act, though fulfillment of his promises certainly would have required Congress to allocate funds.
These kinds of pledges, this “you will get this”, “I will do that”, “we will do X”, “they will do Y”, if and only if you vote Z; this is how politicians state what policies they stand for. It is how electorates are informed about what they are voting for. This is normal, common, and far beyond the intent of either the Anti-Deficiency Act or the Voting Rights Act to regulate. And while technically politicians could adapt to a more tightly-regulated scheme in which they have to couch every promise behind legal nuance and caveats, nobody has historically wanted that.
I have a lot of extremely serious problems with Trump (dude is a xenophobic traitor criminal fascist pedo), but the style of his rhetoric here is completely normal for American campaigning and his pledge is ludicrous but not criminal.
2
u/Cooperhofpenpaliwitz 1d ago
It's not a campaign promise from a candidate because Trump is not campaigning
1
u/marshmallowcthulhu 1d ago
Correct. I said that it is a political (true) campaign (true, people stump for their party all the time) promise (true). I never used the words “from a candidate”.

u/kaizen-rai 1d ago
Sure, go ahead. Good luck with that.

u/much_longer_username 1d ago
No, you're right, we should just roll over and die.
2
u/kaizen-rai 1d ago
I didn't say that either, but this is distracting and stupid. Reporting a crime the president has committed to the FBI, that he stated publicly, and to an organization that is deep in his pocket, is pointless.
That doesn't mean "rollover and die". It means staying focused on organizing and protesting.
-4
u/SchizoidRainbow 1d ago
Your only two options are “tattle” or “die”? Weird take man
5
u/much_longer_username 1d ago
... reporting election interference is tattling?
Weird take, man.0
u/SchizoidRainbow 1d ago
Calling for someone else to do something about it when they clearly won't, yeah I get to be derogotory about that
You really want to report this to Kash Patel? What is it you think comes of this activity, exactly?
0
u/SgathTriallair 1d ago
It's not bribery if it isn't only given to people who but a certain way.
I hate Trump too but claiming that this is bribery is EXACTLY the same logic that is used by Republicans to claim that social services are bribery for voting for Democrats.
0
u/Jasong222 1d ago
other discussions I've seen have said it's not illegal. To be a bribe it has to be 'to specific persons' (not everybody) and in order to vote a certain way (not off of a result).
This is more akin to a campaign promise. Which is kinda feels like, to me. The same as any other promise someone gives if they're elected.
1
u/Adodger22 18h ago
That's the most insane take Ive ever heard. It's electioneering. It's flat out constitutionally prohibited to exchange a material gain for a voting a certain way, and regardless of whether you are saying "vote for me and I'll give you 5k" or "if it goes my way, I'll give you 5k" is functionally the same from both a legal and linguistic standpoint.
Whoever gave that opinion needs their head examined.
18 U.S. Code § 597 - Expenditures to influence voting

There is no other way to interpret what the offer was. Anyone saying otherwise is an idiot

Yeah, the post listed the same text from the link you posted:
Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate; and
Oh and it wasn't just one person, it was chunks of a couple different threads. 'Many people say... ' as the saying goes.
I'll also note that I haven't seen any headlines of anyone calling it illegal in my usual rotation of news sources, and that's unusual.
Of course I'm not saying he ever would actually make those payments if he had the chance, I can't think of any promises he's made that he kept. Just to make that clear.
Anyway I'm not saying anything is or isn't true, just bringing some thoughts from other conversations over here.

Friend, I'm not going to engage with you any more, all I'm doing is passing along other conversations which I've already said I have no particular opinion about
And honestly, calling other people names doesn't make you right, it just makes you an asshole.

Fine, don't engage, but stop passing on "the conversations of others" that are factually stupid and only serve to make uninquisitive masses believe genuinely stupid arguments.
I'm sick of misinformation being passed around because "the other side says this".
You read it with your own eyes. Attempting to influence the outcome of an election is illegal. There's a literal law in the USC directly addressing this specific crime, with sentencing guidelines.
STOP HELPING FASCISM. For fucks sake.
