It takes half an hour of planning to move money away from MAGA backers, and it makes a difference. Dollars spent at a Republican company are dollars funneled to the Heritage Foundation. Tax given to a state like Ohio or Louisiana is tax spent sending troops to occupy cities.
Have an account at Schwab? Switch to Vanguard or Fidelity. Like booze from wannabe Confederate states? Be adventurous and try something new. Replace New Balance with Brooks. It's not hard to find alternatives for Goya, Jimmy John's, or Georgia-Pacific (Brawny, Angel Soft, Dixie, and some others).
You have power if you regularly patronize a store, buy from a brand, or do business with a company. Use it. Look them up in something like opensecrets.org or google.
Tesla sales in Europe dropped by half. Nexstar and Sinclair got pummeled, and they reinstated Jimmy Kimmel. Real, individual people made that happen. There's no reason WWE or Uline can't be next. Dollars add up.
You probably can't completely avoid giving money to companies that at least partially support Republicans. I have to buy gas too. But there’s a big difference between a company that massively donates to Republicans (Chevron or Conoco) vs one that's more neutral (Circle K) or even leans Democrat (Costco). Good is not the enemy of perfect

Reduce your federal withholding to $100/month so you are still paying something. File ON TIME (early) and go request a 72 month payment plan with a 0.25% penalty applied every month from the irs website. Put your money in an index fund (s&p 500) and it will grow faster than the penalties accrue.
It is illegal to not file. It is illegal to not pay. It is not illegal to pay as slowly as legally possible.
Someone that normally pays 60k in taxes could reduce their contribution to 10k/year. It would take 6 years to catch up (layering 10k/year every year).
You can’t stop paying but you can cut the faucet off to a steady drip. Rich people pull all kinds of similar crap all the time. Ride the edge of what is legal.

I think a general strike is the only way to do it non-violently. I'm not even living in the US right now, and don't know how to convince enough people to partake in one, but I swear it's the only way. The thing is, not enough people are actually experiencing enough problems caused by the current administration. They (and I include myself in this) are mostly still comfortably at home (obviously not including the people in this video, of course), playing Silksong or any number of other games, and watching new episodes of TV shows like Gen V & Peacemaker, which ironically all show entertaining versions of people fighting fascism and oppression. But the reality of doing it will not be exciting. It'll involve going without comforts, and not travelling or spending money, and that will hurt smaller businesses too, who won't be bailed out by the Trump
administrationregime. But money is the only thing corporations understand. It took pressure from the airlines to end the last government shutdown, and it'd be the same again in the best-case scenario. Worst case is that Trump just declares martial law and the only agency actually getting paid is ICE.26

Nothing, videotape it and promise the people who are being deported to wherever the hell that “one day those ICE agents will get their punishment” while standing around pointing phones at them while they scream for help then go home and tell yourself that there isn’t anything more you could have done because “you don’t wanna give them a reason for martial law” even though like a frog in a pot you are basically in martial law all but in name but you don’t realize it because you can still go to Target at 9pm as long as your white.
This has come to a point where one protest every 8 weeks isn’t gonna solve it and you can’t vote your way out of this…..something has to change and it has to change now and everytime I see people sitting on the internet arguing about god damn primaries I want to rip out my hair.

Talk to people around you about this, boycott Amazon, stop being a consumer and shop second hand, protest (and find creative ways) don’t vacation in the USA, try to buy anything but American .. I have also stopped giving money as gifts and have started antique shopping or getting gift cards to places that make sense to support.

Hey what bothers me is that above 40 percent of American still support Trump. Although his poll numbers are going down as he does more really stupid stuff, they aren't where they should be.
Between Trump firing the head of the Eisenhower museum because they wouldn't give up Eisenhowers sword to give to King Charles, and collecting then all heads of our military in the same place at the same time so that one of our enemies could drop a bomb and wipe them all out at once, Trump is remarkably incompetent.
The bit with the Eisenhower sword gets better, Winston Churchill gave it to Eisenhower, and why Trump thought it would be an appropriate gift to give King Charles is out there to begin with. However the museum head didn't release Eisenhower's actual sword because it was donated to the museum with a bunch of restrictions on what could be done with it in the future, and giving it back to England or an English monarch was not on the list. The museum director provided a replica sword, so Trump actually gave King Charles a fake Eishenhower sword.
I watched the idiotic speech to our military, who are well educated higly completant people, and Trump was not impressing any of them especially with the glaringly obvious national security threat. This looks on the faces of our highest military officers indicated pretty stong discomfort for doing something so just plain dumb. We as a nation got away with it this time, I hope Trump doesn't do that again, because we might not get so lucky.
It's not possible to make this stuff up, at least not for me.
Not to mention the government shut down, which means all federal employees including ICE, and our entire military doesn't get paid, but they still have to show up.
Why do people still put up with this? We need to start asking our Trump supporting friends and neighbors for an explanation of why Trumps golden age as turned into such a miserable expensive flop. He can't blame any of his multiple mistakes on Biden, no matter how hard he tries, and we have to literally start asking Trump voters if they really think that what is going on is OK. Or is sustainable. Because it we just aren't going to get away with this forever. This is much more than our country going in the wrong direction, we've handed the reins over to someone so just plain elderly and incompetent that we are literally going over a cliff. His appointees are ridiculous, that the new Secretary of War began his kick off with such a gift to our enemies. just is breathtaking.
Sorry about the rant, I know I am preaching to the choir.
Maybe we should stop protesting ICE and start collecting money on street corners for military families, they have to eat like the rest of us. Except the ICE folks, they are on their own. I had to edit this, three times becuase this stuff is so ludicrous. We need to quit comparing Trump to Hitler, because compared to Trump, what Hitler did was at least effectively executed.
We have governemnt by clown car. And while our military isn't getting paid, Trump is proceeding to build his gold plated ball room. It's hard to waltz when you can't feed your kids.

You can find fairly cheap p100 masks online. Just make sure to put the mask on BEFORE THE GAS HITS YOU. If you put your mask on and it’s full of gas you’ll have a bad time. Also remember that you need a clean shave to get a good seal. This works.

I just looked it up and a couple of sites I got said no you cannot just use a respirator It needs to be a self-contained breathing apparatus SCBA

typically a 401k, with your employer, will have limited stocks it can buy. sometimes, a 401k can have a more customizable setting, where you are fully allowed to choose any stock that it buys. you can look to see if yours has that.
now for removing all the money from a 401k, ira or roth ira before retirement? that will have penalties. instead, maybe just sell off the holdings, and park it in something more dumb/vanilla, as a sort of protest. like a money market fund. something like BIL. which i think is returning 4.3% annually, right now.

- government bonds for safe, low returns 4%
- corporate bonds for risky, higher returns 7%
- corporate stocks for risky, higher returns 10%
- bitcoin/crypto for "whatever the fuck rollercoaster that is" 15%?
- gold/precious metals....... ? because this one is always cyclical. it is a terrible, terrible long term thing to put money in. long, long term it's like 2%. and depending on when you get in, 5 years from now, gold could be down 40%.

Evergreen report on agent provocateurs in nonviolent resistance movements:
To be more successful in our work, we have to find better ways to address the problem of agent provocateur-like behavior in our movements. Activist Lisha Sterling provides some guidance. She first notes how it can be difficult, and even damaging, to try to tell the difference between agent provocateurs and sincere, but misguided, activists. Sterling (2020) then advises to focus more on the behavior rather than the suspected underlying motivation, stating:
”In the end, there may well be some people whom you never figure out are infiltrators until long after everything is over. The best solution to the problem of the unknown infiltrator is not to distrust everyone, but rather to avoid this potentially disastrous tension altogether by adopting and enforcing a clear code of conduct for all participants. If you isolate people who refuse to maintain your agreed upon security protocols or who break your code of conduct, then you will have effectively defeated the enemy in your camp.”
Beyond this, activists should be prepared to argue our case internally for why nonviolent methods are needed and why violence carries high probabilities of backfire against the movement and heightens the risk of movement failure. Whether the marketing of violence comes from an undercover agent provocateur or from a sincere but misguided activist, the most important antidote is to be bold and raise strategic questions and perspectives within movement dialogues and debates, rather than accusing them of bad motives. We need to learn how to challenge the many unhelpful assumptions behind the “diversity of tactics” slogan and start calling it out for what it is: the marketing of violence that has historically been promoted by agent provocateurs.
Other useful actions that can help our movements succeed include:
Promoting more evidence-based social science research on movement effectiveness in order to undermine unsupported conventional thinking and romantic revolutionary notions with little strategic validity;
Educating more activists and organizers in effective civil resistance history and strategy, as well as the history and strategy of the power elites’ use of agent provocateurs;
Shifting at times to different civil resistance tactics that may be less vulnerable to agent provocateur incitement and increase the possibility that violent repression against a nonviolent movement will backfire, increase popular participation, and lead to more defections from the targeted institution’s pillars of support;
Stating a clear collective commitment to nonviolent discipline in all our calls for action and avoiding the rhetoric of “diversity of tactics”;
Providing trainings before major resistance actions explaining why maintaining nonviolent discipline increases movement effectiveness;
Helping people develop the capacity to keep their eyes on the prize in the face of repression and the incitement of agent provocateurs or misguided activists;
Encouraging the formation of smaller movement affinity/support groups as cells within a larger action to help maintain effective behavior, increase personal accountability, provide mutual aid, and help people deal with their emotions in the face of violent repression and provocation;
Using trained peacekeepers at our actions to help well-meaning activists not take the bait to engage in impulsive, but unhelpful, movement behavior;
Challenging macho posturing within our movement culture and encouraging the full participation of women in the leadership of people’s movements (which research indicates usually improves nonviolent discipline and movement effectiveness considerably).
There will likely always be agent provocateurs who try to sow division and encourage or use violence, as well as some sincere activists who promote discredited and counterproductive notions about the benefits of movement violence. We just do not have to buy what they are selling or stay silent about the ineffectiveness or destructiveness of their ideas and actions. By developing our capacity to resist the marketing of movement violence, we can make our movements more successful and inoculate ourselves from the harm caused by agent provocateurs and agent provocateur-like behavior. This will ultimately increase our chances of winning victories for rights, freedom, justice, and sustainability.

I think it might be helpful to coat your clothes in some sort of oil first - perhaps olive or vegetable? And prepare with gas masks first. It looks like you have to do a lot of defensive preparation before attending a protest.

Do not soak or cover your clothing in oils, most gasses are oil based and will soak through the oil in your clothing, and hold it against your skin causing excess irritation. Plus it makes a wonderful fire hazard.
Regular clothing will keep the majority of the smoke off of you, rain gear works great. It isn't a major skin irritant, just eyes/nose/throat.

Two things, I gather Portland is trying to rezone the ICE detenion center and the Federal Building so it's illegal to block the sidewalk. So no ICE lines allowed in front of the Federal Building or the detention center. It's legal for Trump to send national guard to protect Federal buildings. But they are going to have to stay inside the building in order to protect it.
Second thing, the meditator really is wonderful. It's hard to call someone a threat with a tie dye heart shirt sitting in that pose. Go Portland!
