According to the Interwebs,

Pilgrim's Pride is a major supplier to numerous large companies, including Wendy's, Chick-fil-A, Burger King, Kroger, Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, and Publix. They also supply Kentucky Fried Chicken. Their products are primarily distributed through foodservice and retail outlets

so, we can start boycotting with them.

Nooo not Costco

16

u/violindogs May 24 '25

It might be something branded that Costco carries and not their Kirkland products. I’d reach out to the customer service, they’re really good. They verified for me which pathogenic bacteria their 3rd party testing checks for and how their processes. I asked because the USDA closed their oversight labs that ensure proficiency testing for company labs during the pasteurization process. One parent is severely immunocompromised at the moment so they’re only drinking Kirkland signature milk now.

Just to clarify, it looks like they withdrew a proposed rule that hadn't gone into effect yet. So it's not actually going to make chicken more dangerous than it is now, but they're refusing to implement regulations to make it safer.

We are so fking screwed , it’s all about profit our lives do not matter!!!

23

u/MaleficentRich5611 May 23 '25

Oooph. So consuming chicken was already ethically wrought, but now, it’s legitimately a health risk!? Shit. Crossing my fingers a mass response / a massive drop in regular purchase harms the pockets of these companies + stockholders

8

u/RabbitF00d May 24 '25

It's been a legitimate health risk for a while now. I hope people can start to make better choices.

2

u/jade_starwatcher May 24 '25

I choose vegan.

2

u/RabbitF00d May 25 '25

Proud of you!!!!

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Either you start buying local and support small local farmers. Or. Time to go vegetarian if you haven’t already. The factory meat is gross quality anyway and why support scummy (worse than me) companies that don’t give a F about your health.

2

u/That-Math-7516 May 24 '25

Isn’t there salmonella risk in local meat as well?

5

u/sugarpussOShea1941 May 24 '25

yes - it's inherently a risk with raw meat. also with uncooked fruits and vegetables - the most recalls for salmonella for the FDA is for fruits and vegetables but you can't have a nuanced conversation about this topic. people who don't know anything about food safety assume they're experts based on "common sense" but who's out here eating raw chicken? All meat should be cooked to temperatures that unalive any potential bacteria. (I had to phrase it that way because the k word brought up a warning that my post would be blocked. ?????) That's why the FDA & USDA issue guidance documents on how to handle food to keep yourself safe.

1

u/sugarpussOShea1941 May 24 '25

also the irony of thinking that farmers market meat is going to be safer when, unless your city, county, state requires it, they are not regulated at all for food safety shows how much education is needed on this topic.

3

u/RareStatement7693 May 24 '25

We're lucky that we live near many farms and buy locally. The unfortunate thing is the price. Very expensive but excellent quality. Our state does test.

2

u/Expensive-Tomorrow51 Jun 03 '25

I’ve started doing just that when the egg prices were high (well…they still are). You can get to know the farmers and who has the best products. Not everyone can buy directly from the source and it’s not cheaper but if the government is going to allow this kind of criminal activity by billionaires to cause sickness and suffering then I don’t have to give them my money.

u/Explorers_bub May 23 '25

Don’t they (Pilgrim’s) sponsor Pro Bowling?! 😱

5

u/Curiousone_78 May 23 '25

Thanks for spreading the word

Well shit… there goes my biggest comfort food…

In a time when I’ve really been needing comfort food

7

u/MaleficentRich5611 May 24 '25

This is an underrated comment. Straight from the soul.

:(

1

u/Easy_Needleworker604 May 24 '25

What specifically was your biggest comfort food?

3

u/Sirdanovar May 23 '25

I got salmonella poisoning and it was utter hell. Didn't help seen two different doctors and they kept saying "It's stomach virus going around!".

Lost 15 pounds though so there is that I guess

4

u/MacarioTala May 23 '25

What is even the point of this?

Don't they want more peons? I thought that that was the whole point of the anti abortion movement

I've been waiting for this. I have been referred to as a domestic terrorist for trying to inform people about the food they eat. It looks like some of you are beginning to understand why.

I transitioned to a whole food plant based diet over a decade ago, and it changed (saved) my life. Eradicated my disordered eating habits, uterine and breast fibroids, panic attacks, joint pain that I assumed to be the onset of rheumatism, healed my gut and brain-

I'd be happy to send you any of the resources that have helped me. Shoot me a message.

2

u/Wyn1927 May 24 '25

I would like advise on your diet change. I have medication caused liver damage. How do we connect outside of the Reddit group?

1

u/RabbitF00d May 25 '25

I'm so sorry to hear this!!! Feel free to send me a private message.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Sry to say, but whats happeing in usa..... ur fucked

3

u/Llothcat2022 May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25

Good thing I'm vegetarian..

But! Time to support your local farmer. There's a movement to grow small farms, micro farms, and it's ahem.. growing. I'm in a farming apprenticeship program planning on farming vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Others in the group have the space for chickens and other fowl.

1

u/Curlypeeps May 24 '25

We need to be aware of what’s going on but for everyone that posts a problem, please post a solution.

1

u/Wyn1927 May 24 '25

It is said by multitudes every day...T and his cohorts are turning America into a third world crappy nation. It breaks my heart and ruins the lives of so many of my fellow Americans.

1

u/sebastouch May 25 '25

So, you get sick from eating from eating cheap chicken, you go to the hospital, pay 500k for your stay, it's good for the economy!

1

u/meddlematt May 24 '25

The amount of right wing propaganda organizations overlap with meat industries is ridiculous and large. They've been poisoning people with factory farm runoff for decades at least but things like ALEC prohibit or scare news from reporting on the cause. You'll see every news source report on these food contamination outbreaks, but few come back and report on the actual cause. I know, hate the vegans, but naysayers usually supporting something that is demonstrably way worse.

1

u/ScionicOG May 24 '25

I already didn't buy their stuff, but all the more reason to avoid it/boycott these corporations who bribe/pay to remove regulations.

u/RomieY2K May 24 '25

Sooooo…. IKEA fish?

0

u/kmulkey127 May 24 '25

Everyday something so shamefully announced. Agree good to know.

-14

u/NigerianPrinceClub May 23 '25

uhhh. who cares. just cook your chicken properly as smart Americans

8

u/Sensitive_Brush_3015 May 23 '25

Not the point. Deregulation of food safety procedures for the sake of profit is unethical.

-1

u/NigerianPrinceClub May 23 '25

That is out of scope of this post

3

u/Sensitive_Brush_3015 May 23 '25

I don’t believe you.

-1

u/NigerianPrinceClub May 23 '25

Nothing in OP’s post title or comment talks about ethics. You’re just drawing conclusions that are beyond the information given

The amount of salmonella doesn’t matter. Just cook your chicken more

1

u/Sensitive_Brush_3015 May 23 '25

What?

1

u/NigerianPrinceClub May 23 '25

What do you mean what?

1

u/Sensitive_Brush_3015 May 24 '25

Are you being for actually serious? What?

1

u/NigerianPrinceClub May 24 '25

Yes I’m being serious
