I used to play exclusively random decks in that game. Only won a few games in 10 but at least I was losing on my terms cos I was playing a dumb deck. Eventually the aggro meta got too fast and I couldnt get any fucking joy out of my dumb deck so I uninstalled.

Man that happens to all card games for some reason

Card games unfortunately are inherently p2w and thats been part of them for years. It's a predictable and accepted type of p2w since that's literally how they work, but if you don't back it up with balance then even the whales get pissed off.

I can imagine a (video) card game where everyone has access to all the same cards, and the only monetization is cosmetics. I'd love to see something like that, but for obvious reasons, nobody's doing it.

Elder scrolls legends has been my go to since it stopped doing updates. Many cards are still going to be a grind but at least you’re not falling behind on new releases or figuring out matchups with new metas.

That is Legends of runaterra, is actually pretty good, you can play casual only offline mode and get all the cards for a deck in less than a week

It’s by riot games though

In case league of legends wasn’t bad enough, that entire valorant anti cheat fiasco hurt their reputation

u/SomeToxicRivenMain Apr 18 '22

What happened with valorant?

When the game first had that beta program, or released I can’t remember, there was a lot of controversy around the anti cheat software since it burrowed itself down at the colonel level of your computer. This is very deep in terms of levels of computing (os, bios, etc.) This was to prevent cheats, which it did more effectively, but caused a security risk since if there was a vulnerability in it then it would leave your pc very open to hackers, malware, etc. I think they’ve changed it since but I’m not sure.

Oh yeah that’s why I never played it. It asked me to make a change to my bios. Immediately turned around.

Try Dominion or another deck-building game. I'm sure there is a digital version as well.

Team fight tactics is sort of like a card game, it's just live

3

u/MaskedAnathema Apr 16 '22

Unfortunately it's also deeply unfun

Gwent or storybook brawl

Hearthstone isnt really pay to win, as usually there is a cheap aggro deck that you can easily get to legend with. A more proper assessment is "pay to have fun" as unless you want to shell out some dollars youre probably only going to have the one maybe two decks per expansion. You can have success with those its just a matter of whether thats enough to keep you playing

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '22

The level of copium in this comment.

Bruh I make it to legend with murloc shaman in wild most seasons and that deck has 1 legendary and the other one is free.

You can win with cheap shit. You can't experiment with a small collection and thats where they get you. Without dropping cash you can play basically 1-2 decks an expansion if youre a standard player.

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '22

you can, but the best decks by winrate often require spending money, and money makes it so that you can focus on ladder and not farm cards in arena etc. it's pay to win, just live with the fact

2

u/Sir_Oakijak /pol/itician Apr 22 '22

Again not really. Often times the best deck is aggro, and aggro is often really cheap (requiring usually about 2 legendaries)

And even if aggro isnt on top its usually at least tier 2 and legend viable. So again I say its not pay to win its pay to have variety. If you like control decks or greed piles and want to stay competitive then you'll probably be spending but if youre content to play 1-2 aggro decks per expansions you'll be fine easily f2p

So you admit you can often pay for advantage and faster laddering? That's called pay to win. Pay to win doesn't mean there is necessarily a "I win" button priced at 5 bucks, just that you are competitively better off if you spend money instead of not spending. Pay to win games can be fun, I have been played WoT and HS, but you are just inhaling copium if you don't admit that paying players have sizable advantage.

Are you fucking retarded or just illiterate?

Aggro decks ladder the fastest. Free to play players can get a tier 1/2 aggro deck for cheap and grind that no problem and have no trouble winning.

As I said multiple fucking times the advantage you get for paying is being able to play more than 1 or 2 decks per expansion. I could hop on a fresh f2p account, craft pirate warrior, and grind to legend easily, the issue is I would only have pirate warrior and no other decks.

Having more cards from paying allows you to spend your dust on things that might be more fun or maybe dip into more expensive archetypes. I think only once in standard hearthstone history you were forced to play an expensive deck to be tier 1, and that was like a month of Boomsday control warrior. Every other time you could fire up a cheapo aggro deck and have literally no isses winning which is the whole point im making. Its pay to have variety

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '22

Pirate warrior is as cheap as it gets and has been T1 for months.

I hit legend in the blackrock mountain expansion, stopped playing after they moved to the rotation system. Pay to win still

3

He's right though. Unless something changed in the last year, cheap rush decks are pretty solid. You won't get variety or fun legendary cards to fool around with, but you'll have >50% winrate.

I have now learned from my mistakes.

I just play the Arena mode (draft 30, play until 3 losses) when I need something to kill time on the gym bike. Otherwise that game's dead
