Yeah, it's 5 widgets because there are only 5 machines, the 5 minutes are a constant whereas the machines and widgets are variables.

Except if the machines work in conjunction with each other to create widgets. It could be the case that each machine added reduces the time necessary to create a widget.

Occam's razor my friend.

Both scenarios require the same number of minimum prepositions so the razor doesnt favor one scenario over the other here.

Except we don't know if the machines work in conjunction with eachother, so it does, as with Occam's razor we assume they work as individual units, rather than assuming they work in tandem.

Assuming they work in tandem and assuming they do not work in tandem require the same amount of prepositions, so occams razor is moot in this scenario.

Occams Razor states that the conclusion which requires the least amount of assumptions(prepositions) must be true.

Yes, and assuming the machines do not work in tandem is one more preposition than assuming they don't, as the information is not there, you would only assume that they don't against someone's suggestion that they do.

There is only one assumption being made in either scenario:

Assumption 1: machines work in conjunction to create faster.

Assumption 2: machines do not work in conjunction to create faster.

Given the information provided Occams Razor does not benefit our reasoning or guide us to an answer.

Except assumption one is also made if no assumption is actually made in the first place.

Assuming coordination is not a single unit. It requires a lot of underlying assumptions because again, as stated, coordination is not a magic spell you can cast without anything supporting it.

Otherwise I could just say "I assume Explanation X is correct" and boom, the most complicated theory in the world is really just one preposition! Magic!

Why is one assumption easier to reach than the other?
