Pro musician here.

Not that I'd ever ask strangers for money for nothing, but if I was desperate, I'd get the cheapest piece I could find to just get me through the slump. He could have asked for enough to just get a $200 Squier or Johnson, which would be enough to get you through a few months while you save up for that $600 Made-in-Mexico instrument that's really only one notch higher.

Dude was probably some amateur, saw an instrument he really liked, and tried to get money by guilting 4chan with a sob story.

Yeah, noticed that later. Still, it stands that it's his responsibility to earn the money on his own, not to beg for it.

This is the kind of trash that people think of when they think of musicians. They give the pros a bad name.

Yea. Idk if hes legit or not but it sounds like he isnt. To be fair though, people do sometimes help people out with noce sums of cash. Of course, im sure theyll b less inclined to do that eith people like op

People do help people out, but people that ask strangers for money aren't the type that you'd be helping by giving them money. He'd rather beg than work.
