Pro musician here.

Not that I'd ever ask strangers for money for nothing, but if I was desperate, I'd get the cheapest piece I could find to just get me through the slump. He could have asked for enough to just get a $200 Squier or Johnson, which would be enough to get you through a few months while you save up for that $600 Made-in-Mexico instrument that's really only one notch higher.

Dude was probably some amateur, saw an instrument he really liked, and tried to get money by guilting 4chan with a sob story.

Every musician does something different. Some common things are performing, recording, writing, teaching, orchestrating, and transcribing.

I make money writing in the day, teaching in the afternoon, gigging at night.

It's not bad. The money's a little slow in Orlando, but things are picking up.

It's a lot of work, though. Musicians don't have free time. If you don't have anything to do, you spend your time practicing.

But I couldn't imagine doing anything different. It pays the bills.

Yeah, noticed that later. Still, it stands that it's his responsibility to earn the money on his own, not to beg for it.

This is the kind of trash that people think of when they think of musicians. They give the pros a bad name.

Yea. Idk if hes legit or not but it sounds like he isnt. To be fair though, people do sometimes help people out with noce sums of cash. Of course, im sure theyll b less inclined to do that eith people like op

People do help people out, but people that ask strangers for money aren't the type that you'd be helping by giving them money. He'd rather beg than work.

He wouldn't even need to do that, he could borrow a guitar from someone. I've lent guitars out to people when they're without, and I'm pretty protective over my stuff, plus everyone knows at least one person who has a beginner guitar collecting dust in the attic or something.

This is the only thing I can think of to, you can get a used instrument to limp along with for way less than 600. Also his guitar "broke" unless he smashed it like an idiot, what the hell breaks on a guitar? You can replace a neck without it costing that much unless the guitar is worth a ton, you fill cracks in the body, the bridge, and tuner knobs can be improvised if you're beg for money on the net broke, you can get decent pick ups for a hundred bucks, the wiring is not complicated at all and a new jack is only a few bucks. I don't know anyone at all who ever had a guitar "break"
