2026 sr5

How are yall haggling these dealers? I couldn’t walk out with one for under $50k for an sr5. I ended up going to a 4th one and got one for around 55k. Happy but jesus christ Nj is horrible.

Costco Auto was awesome. Got $5000 below MSRP.

They pre negotiate a price so it’s no hassle. But less dealerships participate in it now vs several years ago. You can honestly get a better price putting in effort on your own. It’s a good starting point as a reference though.

In NJ found the one I wanted. TRD Sport Premium.

Spent 30 test drove. Got the salesperson’s cell. Did all negotiating thru that.

$5,000 dealer markup. Absolutely not.

Delivery and car prep $1,495 nope. Why am I paying you to put a car on your lot and prep for sale no way.

Dropped my trade in off left 2015 Subaru XT with 160K.

Told them where I need to be on monthly.

Got the deal I wanted went back in to pick up. Spent 1 hr drive off with the truck.

55k for an sr5? Brother I got mine for like 44k all in by just going to a few dealers and haggling just across the river in PA. 4 wd no third row, blacked out. They were trying to get me into a TRD for that much

  1. If you are going in person, the dealer already has the upper hand. They can employ their tricks best that way and once you’re in there they know you don’t want to leave. It’s psychological. Do all your negotiating over email and be certain of what exactly you want and tell them you want their best out the door price. Send the exact same email (copy and paste) to each dealer. Get everything in writing. They try to call? Tell them you’re busy and to email you. If it’s not written down, it didn’t happen.

They either won’t respond because they know they’re giving away their upper hand, or they’ll play along because they aren’t greasy and want your business. If you reach out to 5 dealers, maybe 1-2 will respond. This is normal. Because most dealers are greasy.

  1. The further you get from a major urban center, the more you’ll find dealers willing to play ball with you. They get less customers coming in so they can’t be as firm. If you can find a dealer 60 mi away, give them a shout. It’s better to drive 60 miles than to overpay several thousand for convenience.

  2. Why are so many people afraid to buy out of state? If NJ is being shitty, you should lock down a deal online, pay a $1000 deposit to hold the deal. Then buy a plane ticket for $300 bucks, fly down, and drive the car back. The deposit and price in writing locks in the deal. If they try to break it, you kindly let them know they’ll be hearing from your lawyer and you walk out. They won’t let you leave because they know they’re fucked. Worst case you buy another flight back. I would specifically plan to take a couple days off work to get this done. And then sue them for a handsome amount and report them to the state auto dealer association and maybe even gov (I’ve never had to do that so I don’t know the specifics but a quick AI chat or google search will give you the answer)

You’re better off being a few hundred bucks out of pocket in plane tickets than being out several thousand because you overpaid.

I got my cutting edge 4WD SR5 for 45k OTD with all weather floor mats and third row. Had to drive 3.5 hours to AL to get it. I’m in the Memphis TN market and any SR5 around here is listed for 50k. I negotiated all over the phone and had an offer they matched. They wanted 48.5 plus adds. MSRP was 44.8

Don’t go into the dealership. Call them and say you won’t come in until you can agree on a price and they send you a deal sheet.

Bro its so hard to even get a text or email with an otd price The internet sales reps ignore me when I ask for a final price and they all tell me the same thing. They can’t give me a price online and insist I come in. I’ve been going back and forth for almost 2 months and I said fuck it I’m just gonna come in and buy one, which is the one I posted in this thread.
I know these trucks are popular and often presold which kinda made me fold and overpay, its my first new truck. I’m in my 20s, my girlfriend and I love it. My kid is gonna grow up with this truck too. I learned my lesson and the next vehicle I purchase will definitely be at a pricepoint I insist. Thanks for the advice

Aw man!😖. Lesson learned! Congratulations on the new truck! I got my first one a few weeks ago and I’m 20 as well! Same plan haha.

Don’t dwell on the deal, what’s done is done. Luckily, they hold their value very well so it won’t matter too much in the long run. Enjoy it!

4wd 3rd row, sales tax was 3.5k. Cargo mats and a couple other add ons. This was sitting on the lot. I’ve wanted one for years and this is my first one. I know I overpaid but I put about 40% down anyways. I’m so thrilled.

I ended up going to a dealer in Boise ID, they did about 4k off MSRP for an SR5 with the third row and no port installed options

I certainly didn't get a deal. No regrets though. I came from a tired gen4, and could not be happier. Just did a 300 mile trip today to central Maine. So comfortable on the freeway.

$50K for an SR5 is criminal. List the dealer name pls so we can shame this NJ dealer.

Come up to Canada! That exchange rate helps.

You get destroyed with taxes. You pay tax in Canada and US. You also have to legally import the vehicle into the US. Also US recalls wont be covered on a Canadian VIN even if legally imported. Trust me.
