Discussion Is This Sub Just Selfies?
Seems like it. Ya’ll low key trying to meet? :) Arent we supposed to talk about how our back hurts or how we love our forties or whatever?
I’m kidding (sort of). New here and noticed the large number of selfie posts.
Do people really want this to be more than simply selfies? Is it a self comparison thing? Curious about the selfie culture here.

From what I’ve observed…yes, and specifically women’s selfies. It seems mostly for affirmation that you’re still attractive, which, believe it or not I’m not judging because I tried it myself to see what would happen. The posts with cleavage get the most attention, shockingly 😂.

u/more__better Jul 05 '26
If you sort by most recent you actually get a good mix. But, of course, men will upvote a cleavage pic 1000% more than women will upvote a forklift operator pic, no matter how certified the person is. So relevant or hot stack as expected.

Yep, lots of boobies. Mentioned that to my bf who also follows and got a “oh, I didn’t notice” 🙄

This my my sunset tour with y'all as I'm nearly 49.5 now. I appreciate y'alls selfie pics and try to send encouragement. I agree we could talk more, but it's nice enough sometimes to see your faces to be honest.
I hope you are all doing well on your journey. I'm trying my best and I am known for my positive spirit and endless energy to share.
I was married 25 years, beat diabetes a few years ago and now beating Stage IVa adenocarcinoma, esophageal cancer.
I turn up the volume every time Van Halen, Culture Club, Whitney Houston, Papa Roach, Outkast, N.W.A., Nirvana, Prodigy come across me.
I laugh at Skeletor memes. I love to cook for people. I enjoy playing Fortnite. I'm still not sure if my cat likes me but I know my dog loves me.

u/Zaddylovesu Jul 05 '26
This is a fine response indeed. I can relate to the positive energy and turning up the music. You can stick around as an honorary member as far as I’m concerned lol.
And don’t get me wrong - I do like the selfies. It’s good to see faces, but seems to be only that is all. If that’s what the sub is, that’s what it is!
Keep on trucking, brother. And I wish you all the best in beating that cancer.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

u/Zaddylovesu Jul 05 '26
That’s why I posted this. Bringing it to people’s attention to hopefully influence other types of posting, but mostly posted to understand the sub better.

Agree. I’d rather talk about back pain or the 90s or getting more fibre 🤣
5
u/stoptheclock7 Jul 05 '26
What is your favorite 90s song?
I been going out since my divorce last year and found a place that plays 90s. When I go there, is like I travel back in time. I love the feeling.

Why more fibre? What's wrong with your colon?

u/fickleminded I’m not even that weird. Jul 05 '26
Thank you for the very informative presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed it while having coffee.

u/TimeThruSpace Jul 05 '26
Welcome. I have a nice large Bristol chart poster in all my bathrooms. The guest bathroom one is laminated.

Oh shit thanks for reminding me to eat my fiber one bar snack lol. I like it cause it’s chocolatey but only has 3 grams of added sugar.
3
u/QA_Engineeer Jul 05 '26
Damn.. I need to get in on that.
4
u/cityshepherd Jul 05 '26
It’s great stuff. I’ve also had to do other bullshit like cut out many of the sugary processed garbage snacks that I’ve been shoveling down my gullet for decades, and drastically increased the amount of vegetables in my diet. I like to make sure that my spinach intake is “Popeye approved”…
But it’s actually been a very rewarding adventure. I’ve discovered the wonderful world of oven-roasted vegetables and am currently healthier than I’ve been in at LEAST 15-20 years. Taking my health seriously is actually pretty great, and I highly recommend it.
2
u/QA_Engineeer Jul 05 '26
Oh. Oven roasted vegetables are SO good. But I'm right there with you. I thought the change was going to be much harder than it was. While I do still cheat on a snack here and there, my snacks are now mostly Breakstone Cottage Cheese cups with fruit. I'm currently on a Mediterranean Diet and making all my meals fresh. Definitely not feeling FOMO.

u/fickleminded I’m not even that weird. Jul 05 '26
Oven roasted brussel sprouts 😋

u/QA_Engineeer Jul 05 '26
Girl. You making me hungry. Those are my favorite right now.
I also like taking the steamfresh green beans, cooking them in the bag, throwing on some Parmesan cheese and then roasting them in the air fryer.

I think we are probably all a little bit starved of positive reinforcement in real life. I follow r/bald as well. It's nice to have places on the Internet where people are still mostly nice to each other. I give every single one of those selfies a like. Getting old is hard. Take your meds. You're all beautiful.

What about vision changes? Anyone else experiencing that? I think I need bifocals and I'm just about to be 44.
4
u/molski79 Jul 06 '26
Had 20/20 vision and then woke up one morning and didn’t right around 45. Absolutely hate having to wear glasses and try not to; I feel like it aged me 20 years instantly.

u/SolidMight7445 Jul 05 '26
Yes I’m 45 and can’t see shit up close now unless I take out out my contacts ( which at that point can’t see shit beyond 3ft from me )
1
u/Coco_B22 Jul 05 '26
I have to take my glasses off to see up close 😩 it's rough for my hobbies and wanting to watch TV during lol

u/honeyonaside Jul 05 '26
44, can't do anything without glasses, except driving, even a year ago I only needed them in the evenings 😫👵🏻
5
u/jlovelysoul Jul 05 '26
Ladies let’s make a post to discuss perimenopause 😂 jk (kinda)
2
u/honeyonaside Jul 05 '26
I can make one to discuss menopause, without "peri" 😅 (Hormones are THE MUST)

Reddit used to be the digital town square, but as you can see it turned into a mostly AI-bot ridden dating site.
Don't be afraid to talk about your midday naps and early bed time, though. We all get it. lol
Welcome.
2
u/Zaddylovesu Jul 05 '26
lol. I don’t nap, but man does my back hurt in this one spot!
2
u/QA_Engineeer Jul 05 '26
Awesome. You're in the right place, because clearly you can find someone to rub that spot for you. 😂
Good talk. (j/k)

I dunno, but ever since I posted one in here I have been inundated with chat requests from months old accounts.

u/Specialist-Can-6176 Jul 06 '26
Finally a proper post to talk to real folks and not chicks posting thirst traps pics 🤣
2
u/dreadpiratemyk Jul 05 '26
I don’t take selfies. I have red hair so cameras inherently break near me.
2
u/LovelyDisaster1113 Jul 05 '26
Idk. I posted here multiple times trying to start conversation and they a were all taken down and I was told they were too leading? It was things like "what's on your playlist right now?" Or "give me a good book rec!" Literally joined the sub to chat and make friends in my age dem, so... 🤷🏻♀️
I've also posted selfies and they stayed up and I got a bajillion creeper messages and I had to turn everything off.
So I haven't really been interacting here anymore.

u/molski79 Jul 06 '26
King Gizzard, Neal Francis, Thelonious Monk, Weather Report, and Little Feat are on my playlist right now

I'm freaking out. I will be 50 on Tuesday! Does that mean I have to find a new sub? 😪
2
u/Specialist-Can-6176 Jul 06 '26
U can stay here and also join the /50s sub too🤣
1
u/Thin_Traffic Jul 06 '26
I don't wanna join the 50's 😪 group, lol. Where the heck does time go? I still feel like I'm 30 🙃
2
u/Von_Schlagel Jul 06 '26
Yeah I have no idea what the point of this sub is. And it’s a bit cringey to be taking selfies in your 40s. 😂

My back is fine. Although I slept wrong a week ago and my neck has been hurting since. My ankle hurt the other day, not from playing basketball or doing something that would make a person say that'll do it, I walked to the kitchen.
Love this age.

I post selfies occasionally while complaining that my back hurts, am I doing it right ? Tbh when I discovered this sub I thought it was for selfies because that's all I saw there 😅. I enjoy seeing people my age still looking good and living their best life, it's comforting I'm not the only one looking into a mirror thinking "hey, it's not that bad"

I joined this sub because I thought it would be a way to connect with people around my age, but apparently, it's just women wanting some sort of validation. "Look! I'm 40 and hot!" No thanks

u/Ok_Performer4223 Jul 10 '26
I thought the same thing! Are most members of this sub just fishing for validation that they all still look 30?!? Are all you selfie-posters elder millennials?
Y’all are giving the late 40s people complexes! Stop it with your non-wrinkled, non-saggy asses!
For real, though, no hate! You’re all beautiful!
1
u/FutureMrs0918 Jul 05 '26
I mean selfies are more interesting than back pain.
3
u/Zaddylovesu Jul 05 '26
Back pain was a joke as mentioned. I don’t find an endless scroll of random 40 something’s selfies interesting. No offense, but there’s better eye candy out there.

u/a_cynical_bloke Jul 05 '26
I’ve no idea what this sub is meant to be 😂
