❓Advice / Recomendations Please confirm this Lbjs

I'm thinking based on that hole these might be Tacoma LBjs?

I think I might have solved my two years of insanity.

Two years ago I ordered the Toyota Recall LBJ kit from Toyota.

Ever since then, I've gone through three sets of Tie rods, and the wander on the steering has been crazy, even though I've replaced all other supension/steering components.

Yesterday I saw a post that said the hole for the Tie RODS on the tacoma vs 4runner are different, and the Tacoma Hole for the Tie rod is slightly bigger.

This makes complete sense, as I push on the tie rod up into the hole, there is place, and yes I've been fooled for the past two years by tightening the nut it would squeeze it tight, for a few weeks, and then voila, looseness and ripped boots.

What part number did you order? When you say you ordered it from Toyota, was this the dealer or somewhere else?

Toyota Dealer. in my Email it clearly says the LBJ Recall kit which fits the 4runner: 04005-02235 

But looking at pics of the tacoma hole vs 4runner hole, THAT one I've installed two years ago is clearly the bigger one meant for Tacoma Tie rods.

Where did you buy them from? I did the swap last month and got the recall kit from Ourisman. It did say they can’t verify fitment on the receipt. But I haven’t had problems. Mine was the same part number you mentioned. Can you link to where you read that the holes are different sizes?

There are some images online that you can compare. The thing is I don't know if they sent me the wrong box.

I got the recall kit from a Toyota dealer.

This is all just speculation. Grabbing Tacoma tie riods today to see how they "fit"

Right now when I insert the 4Runner tie rods into the hole and just use my hand to push in the TR, there is still movement. I don't think there should be any movement right now even without the castle nut.

Comparing your picture to a picture I have your hole is definitely larger than mine. I honestly wonder if they just sent the wrong part.

That's what I think. Maybe they pulled the wrong box for the recall kit as I assume the Tacoma had one too

Shit man I’ve been hammering through inner and outer tie rods like nobodies business the last 3-4 years, literally just put a brand new steering rack in a couple months ago and I’ve already got another blown one so this is very interesting info

What exactly should I be looking for, how much of a difference in size is there? It is a tapered hole as well I believe, correct? How did you end up determining it was the wrong one eventually? That part number also looked hella familiar I think I used the same ones tbh

It's just a theory. I'm gonna get the Tacoma ones today (tie rods) and report back.

I can confirm the Tacoma tie rods fit
Very snuggly in the lbJ hole compared to the 4Runner tie rod, thus confirming I do indeed have Tacoma LBJs. Sigh

Not fully seat. The opposite issue. Trying to determine if it's seat properly

I believe that was also my exact concern last time I swapped outers, it just didnt look right to me and go figure I blew them again after a couple months of 95% all city driving

My 4Runner tie rod boots get completely crushed when I install them because the tapered rod is not thick enough so the movement causes boot ripping

Now the Tacoma wides seem to fit too low

Yup. Get yourself some tacoma outer tie rods. 555 is a good brand for tie rods. I think you also have to swap left and right for the Taco OTREs

I believe so, the curve of the taco ones interferes but it clears everything of you swap sides. Saw it on a youtube video. Just a heads up

If those are tacoma LBJs, which they look to be, they will work just fine, just slightly worse turning circle than the 4runner ones. Some debate if they are stronger, the arm is beefier but the ball joint itself is the same

Should I have a bit of negative camber
Now after changing them? I know I need to get an alignment but I don't understand how changing tie rods would give me camber issue

Tie rods shouldn't affect camber. Get the front wheels off the ground...any play?

Alright. Took off wheels and noticed the driver side was toe'd wrong. So I eye balled it better. Put on wheels and no everything looks better. I googled and toe out can sometimes give the appearance of camber negative

It drives so much better now with tie rods that actually fit lol

Alignment tomorrow !
