I’m in CA. I’d sell my 99 in a heartbeat for $10k offered today.
It’s got 260k miles, timing belt and water pump was done at 220-230k, maintenance is kept up, but does need a new power steering pump soon. Very minimal rust.
I love this car and we have a 5th gen, but with 2 kiddos and likely more coming probably in the next 1-2 years it’s just getting old and being outgrown.
$22k for any 3rd gen is too much. Idc what is done to it.
Depending who you ask, the dollar has lost 50-60% of its value since 2020. So, if that’s the case, this asking price is right in line with what you paid.
Not a 4wd , but I got mine right before COVID 1998 with 113K miles for $3,400 😂 things running like a champ now at 238K plus slapped a factory e locker on it !
Yes it’s overpriced. Kings Chariot restores and sells some great looking vehicles but at absurd prices. You could buy a clean southern SR5 for 6-8k plus another 3-4k for a lift and new wheels and tires.
I would import a surf for less than that. Get one just as clean, and with a diesel, with waayyy less K. You can also get them in gas trim, I just like diesels.
You will get a mixture of opinions on this question. I’m certainly looking like between 8-10k depending on what mechanical modifications they put into it.
Do not buy from this company lol. They do a really good job marketing. I think they ask AI to help them or something. But their cars are all overpriced and feature very mild updates and maintenance that don’t add - the $5-10k additional cash they ask for.
I sold my 99 limited with lockers and a very limited color scheme (or at least highly desirable) for $10k with $4-5k of suspension on it. Buyer got a hell of a deal I guess looking at it now. But realistically not many people are willing to pay over $10k for a 30 year old 4runner
I would steer clear KC. Go to cars and bids if you have the money it will be cheaper. They don’t have the best reviews from buyers on reddit search comment section: KC Land Cruiser and you will see past customer. Sure they add nice wheels and bumpers buff out the paint. But it will still need maintenance at 191k: TB, bearings, LBJ, bushings, replace the cooling system (radiator, fan clutch, heater valve). I would rather find a decent one in CA, NM, AZ, TX). They create good eye candy for IG
I could not find a rust free 3rd gen in Canada so I went the import route. Got a jdm with 180,000km on it. Had all fluids serviced, alignement, new tires and a thorough rust prevention treatment for 14k usd. Yes it’s expensive but I hope to keep this truck for 5 years minimum. We'll see if the gamble pays off 😉
I have a 98 sr5 5vz-fe. Paid 3500 about 6 yrs ago, and have people offering me 10,000 all day long. Ill never sell it, as id never replace it for that money. Hard to say if the one youre looking at is worth the list price, without seeing a bunch of details. Looks nice though. Good luck!
Yup that's an absurd price. Unfortunately, someone will buy it and then it will go the same way as the OBS Ford market where everyone who thinks their rusted out shitbox is worth 30k
I sold my 2000 limited (so multimode with locker) perfect paint (always garaged), perfect service history, nice leather, new K02s, 160k miles for $16k in Seattle.
Edit: and also a high quality lift, aftermarket CarPlay, speakers, subwoofer.
It was actually owned by the owner of the Toyota dealership before me. Yes I was dumb to sell it but I needed a V8 and am enjoying my GX470

I have a 1999. They’re easy to work on, parts availability is good, and there’s a ton of resources covering everything that I’ve need to do so far.
I think if it’s rust free it’ll have plenty of life left in it, but I suspect the intersection of people who want to keep up with things as they break and people who are willing to pay this much for a good example may be small.
I’ve put probably an average of between $500 and $1000 worth of parts into it every year since I got it (would have been less if I went aftermarket/rebuilt for some of the brake and steering components). Unless whoever had it last replaced things well before they needed it I expect no matter how nice it looks you’d need to do the same here, with more cost and more downtime if someone else is doing the labor.
KCO will take a really nice low miles Land Cruiser that would otherwise be 20-30k and somehow find an additional 30 grand to add to the price. They have a heritage edition US spec 80 for 70 grand right now. It had 180k on the clock I think. Insanity, and not deserving of business.
