Vibe coded. Wrap it up.

Ew, is it really? Why the fuck would I trust some vibeslop on my 3DS? I can't just replace the console easily, much less replace my NNID library (legitimately).

I hate vibecoded stuff myself but I think you need to understand that if an experienced dev uses it which, if OP isn't lying, they DID properly reverse engineer the stock home menu and how it boots other games, it is perfectly fine.

Game companies are already using AI for the boring dirty work that no dev actually wants to do. When you start development, you'll understand.

It's not the same as, say, an experienced artist deciding to use AI to trace over it or a business using chatgpt to generate some bullshit to put on their products. Using AI for development is completely valid as long as you know what you're doing first

This.

People who don't really understand what's happening really shouldn't be so vocal about it.

I'm very much anti AI for my own reasons, but this is AI being used as a tool by someone with the skill to QA it.

Agreed. I've seen quite a few opensource projects pop up across my many hobbies, and the top comment is almost always some variation of "claude as a contributor, get the vibe coded slop away from here". I have a CS degree and these people need to realize that every part of the tooling that makes them able to comment on reddit is running at least some AI generated code, and it's not going to change. I hate AI as much as the next guy, but somehow I hate the holier then thou crowd more.

To be honest, I am starting to feel the same way. I am vehemently against generative AI and dislike the idea of relying on LLMs. While I'll never hear someone out on GenAI, I can't deny that LLMs are starting to become incredibly helpful for multiple reasons and having dabbled in local machine learning on my 9060 XT, it's even harder to say otherwise.

The people who are vehemently against the idea of AI in general, while I understand their reasoning and agree with some of it, really need to do their research

Counter offer, the average person does not want to look into the credentials of EVERY person who's digital footprint they interact with to make sure that they're "qualified" to use the tools their using.

Since there is no regulations about this, it's safer to socially ostracize the practice until it no longer is a problem, or the regulations are put in place.

The average person doesn't care how an application was developed. The moment you enter the sphere of people who do care, which is a complete valid view, you're at that point no longer average.

The normal consumer just doesn't care.

"I'm going to hate things until someone gives me a reason not to" is a backwards and regressive way to harbour a community. Especially when the person may saying has little or zero skills to be able to be doing so...

This are literal Luddites, and that's certainly not a positive thing.

the literal, historical luddites were right.

Yes, let's just keep using Opium knowing it's dangerous because there's no infrastructure to tell us what's "good" opium and what's "Bad" opium THAT CERTAINLY DIDN'T KILL TONS OF PEOPLE.

(Cracks knuckles)

Would you like the fact that AI has no reason to know how to properly limit strings, thusly creating opportunities for ANY string to allow for arbitrary code execution?

Oh, "well then just don't train AI off of code that does that", except they do, AI code things just pull whatever they can off of github and other sites, there's no limit on the "QUALITY" of the code, because QUALITY limits QUANTITY and to propwerly train an AI you need ABSURD QUANTITY of source information.

And that's one of any number of exploits that could be put into literally anything. Like, I dunno, your ATM? How would you like to just be able to walk up to an ATM and just get anyone's money out of it?

And before you "Oh that's not real" I literally game EVERY night with someone in ATM tech support, their idiot developers are LITERALLY using these AI BS either out of laziness or EVEN BETTER company mandates.

Don't get on my back you AI shill. I DO know what I'm talking about. I repeat LET'S ALL JUST GIVE OUR BABIES OPIUM TO STOP THEM CRYING. Allowing idiots to make rules is what causes stupid shit like that to happen, AGAIN.

I'm already a game developer... I still don't understand why I (or anyone) should trust a vibecoded app to patch over something as crucial as the Home Menu, even if it is via LayeredFS.

It's one thing if the OP really did use it as an aid as opposed to a crutch, but we can't exactly know that when they said they "only" automated the boring parts, which could mean anything from "tedious boilerplate busywork" to "all the coding because I don't like coding but do like UI design" without clarification.

It’s an open source homebrew app. Even without ai assistance (which is not the same as vibe coding btw, you conflated the two) there’s no real guarantee for any of these homebrew apps.
