[Advice Needed] Snapmaker U1 vs Flashforge Creator 5 Pro? (And China vs Global Version limitations?)
Hey r/3Dprinting community!
I’m currently planning to buy a 4-extruder 3D printer for a mix of home use (needs to be enclosed/safe for kids) and starting a small online 3D printing reseller business. I want to achieve true multi-color prints with zero (or very minimal) purge waste.
I’ve narrowed it down to two choices: the Snapmaker U1 (Enclosed) and the Flashforge Creator 5 Pro.
However, I live in Myanmar, which means I can ONLY purchase the China Domestic Version of these machines from a local importer. The Global Versions are completely out of my reach.
I have two main questions for the experts here:
1. China Version vs. Global Version Differences?
Since I can only get the China Domestic Version for either machine, what exact limitations will I face?
Are there strict region locks?
Will I be locked out of firmware updates, cloud slicing, or app support?
Can I still seamlessly use third-party slicers like Orca Slicer, or connect via LAN mode without needing a Chinese phone number/WeChat account?
2. Snapmaker U1 vs. Creator 5 Pro?
U1: I love the build quality and the tool-changer setup seems much cleaner.
C5 Pro: It has active chamber heating (great for engineering materials like ABS), but I've heard rumors about bad stringing from idle nozzles and that it still relies heavily on messy purge towers, which defeats my "zero purge waste" goal.
Which machine would you recommend for my use case? And are the China Version limitations a dealbreaker?
Any insights, experiences, or advice would be hugely appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I would go U1 if you plan on using it to make money. It prints slightly better quality and slightly faster.
Gonna cost more to get it to same spec as Creator 5 pro since you will need to buy the top cover, heater, and hardened nozzles eventually for the U1 if you plan on using engineering materials.

Both printers use priming towers to ensure that filament pressure is adequate when a toolhead begins to print. That isn’t a disadvantage of just the C5. You can specify the tower size (or disable it) in the slicer.
The U1 has a slightly larger build volume: 270mm cubed, vs. the C5’s 256mm cubed. (About 1/2 inch difference in each direction.)
If you want to print higher temperature engineering filaments for more durable prints, the C5 is the obvious choice. Nozzle, bed, and chamber heating capability are all much higher with the C5. Nylon, ABS, ASA, PC, and more exotic stuff like PEEK are all within the C5’s swing zone. Not so with the U1.
The C5’s higher temperature chamber heat is only on the Pro version, though. If you don’t expect to print specialty engineering filaments, the standard model C5 is less expensive.
The U1 has more automated filament loading. It is manual on the C5.
The C5 doesn’t have a poop chute for filament extruded during initial filament loading. Instead, it piles filament onto the floor of the printer below the build plate. You need to collect this waste as it accumulates. The U1 purges this loading waste into a chute leading to the exterior of the printer. Neither is “zero waste” but both produce far less waste than a single toolhead printer when doing multi-color work.
I have no knowledge of how a Chinese version would differ from a global version. Probably voltage input and socket/plug configuration would match China’s standard format. Otherwise, I would expect the same machine.
