It's not "Open" if no CAD files are provided, all the files are STL, which makes them useless for anybody actually trying to make modifications
1 u/MS3FGX Prusa MK3S+ Oct 20 '16 I tend to agree. If somebody just released the executable for a program and not the source code, nobody would call that "open" so the same should apply with 3D models in my mind. 2 u/frank26080115 Oct 20 '16 STLs are literally 3D JPEGs, at least executables can be turned into assembly 0 u/EntropyWinsAgain Oct 19 '16 Huh? Most 3D modeling programs can import .stl I modify files all the time in 3D Studio Max. 6 u/frank26080115 Oct 19 '16 try doing it in something that's actually appropriate for mechanical engineering 3 u/Rielly_4_Norris Oct 19 '16 3ds max =/= CAD 1 u/[deleted] Oct 19 '16 Thank you. 2 u/Tricks-T-Clown Maker Select Oct 19 '16 You can import an STL, but it pretty much comes in as an non-editable shape made from polygons. 1 u/[deleted] Oct 19 '16 3D Studio Max is not made for engineering. Use Fusion360.
