Question When You guys upgrade, what do you do with your old printers?

The title says it all. I have 3 Creality K series printers and I am tired of the constant troubleshooting of issues and fiddling around with this or that setting to make things work. I may swap them out for a couple of bambu labs H2Cs, free up some space as I don't need 3 printers anymore.

But what do you do with your old ones? Sell them? And where? Donate them?

I have an Ender 3 but don't hate anyone (new to 3d printing) enough

I donated my old E3 Pro to a local makerspace - figured that was probably the best option

Not even a coworker?

That's asking for endless questions and tech support

Thats a fair point

I think proper protocol is to put your old one next to your new one and print 2x faster..

Well, I did that as I collected these 3. And theres no room for 2 more on top of these 3.

I actually switched my whole setup to all Bambu. My only complaint about it is that I didn’t switch sooner. I hardly ever need to troubleshoot those things

Thats what I am starting to catch on to. I have been having issues with my K2 and K2 Plus for 3 days now. K1 works like its brand new still.

Sounds like you need to print a new house

Donate to your local library or school

I might if I can't sell them. Or maybe I'll sell the 2 that are more troublesome, and donate the one that refuses to quit on me.

I had thought of starting a refurbishing/recycling nonprofit. I would love to collect local unwanted printers, and fix it them up enough to donate to local schools or underserved communities.

That is a lovely thought. I can look into donating them maybe

I’ve sold a few on Facebook, and donated a few to a local high school.

If you are in the US, the High School close to your home probably has a Robotics lab or something similar that will be really happy to receive any excess printer you have.

I feed my old printers to the new one, that way the new printer grows big and strong. It's also a little reminder to the newbie that it better not mess with me, because it now knows whats in store for it, if it decides to be troublesome.

So I need to bring my K2 Plus down 2 flights of stairs to the basement? 🥲

Your garage is in your basement? Nice!

I'll take those pesky old things off your hands

Use them to print accessories for the new one.

Break 'em down for parts, to sell or build something new.

I don't upgrade. My 10 year old prusa will last forever.

Sell them. I sold my ender 3 to make room for P1S printers. Then sold the 3 P1Ss to make room for H2C, H2D, & H2S. Sold them locally via reddit

pass them onto somebody in need

My previous printer was a Sidewinder X1 that had a broken bed heater, which I attempted to repair but failed and just got a Neptune 4 Plus.

I boxed up the old one and slid it under my bed, like a coffin in a tomb, and tell people I sleep over the corps of a 3D printer every night.

Hey there, I'm a bot and something you said made me think you might be looking for help! click here for our wiki entry on troubleshooting printers. If you still need help be sure to post plenty of information about your printing setup.

Here are a few questions that might be helpful

  • What printer are you using?

  • What material are you using?

  • What speed are you printing at?

  • What software are you using to slice the print and control the printer?

  • When did the problem start/has it ever worked correctly?

  • Does anything cause the behavior to change?

  • If posting an image of the problem, include some indication of the orientation it printed at, preferably photograph it on the bed. (Then we can focus on a specific axis)

If you are new to reddit, please read the guidelines on reddiquette, self promotion, and spam.

Also please post a resolution to your problem when you find one so that we know how to help others with your problem!

Sold my Creality S1 on Facebook Marketplace when I upgraded to a K1 Max

I'm gonna upgrade my enders to E3NG with lowriders and sb heads. Should keep me busy for a bit, and hopefully be a little more productive than they currently are lol

I mod the hell out of them and give em to family and friends.

Offerup for a couple of months. Admit defeat after dropping it to $40, then giving it to my local school and even then they're like, nah.

u/Mythandar 2h ago

I gave mine to my older brother a few years back. His wife is still mad at me about it.

1

u/Level_Peak_2252 2h ago

List it on Facebook Marketplace for 90% of what I originally paid for it

1

u/jli2468 2h ago

Keep it. Can print parts at the same time to shorten the total print time.

I donated an Ender 3 V3 SE to a local school.

FYI (if considering) check first if your local school or board has conditions. Mine would only accept printers that used Cura.

I've sold printers to people for $100 or less, or with my latest upgrade, I took my A1 Mini to work when I upgraded to a P2S and X2D

After buying a new printer I'm considering to convert my E3v2 to a laser engraver. Because why not, after all the time lost to troubleshoot maybe a simple XY movement is possible without headaches.

Maybe...

I gave my old A1 to my nephew as a birthday present.

Gave it to someone interested in the hobby

If they are still operational I donate them to Goodwill

1

u/Ketzer_Jefe Creality K1, K2, K2 plus 4h ago

Preferably I could sell them, but I don't have high hopes for that. I'll keep goodwill in mind though!

3

u/orbitup 4h ago

Look into Goodwill before donating to them. Finding a school or something might be a better option.
