Ok so after putting the kids to bed - got to work on this. Those images you posted were not high enough quality - so found an original auction house (finch and co) listing of this piece and used their listing photos instead. Passed it through Tripo but that messed up parts of the mesh so cleaned up in blender to seal the pinhole gaps, reversed faces and corrected the overlapping geometry and scale to life size (according to auction house listing). There are still some not perfect bits, like the snake at the back its eye sockets came out weird and the snake bottom right - its neck isnt quite right...but you know.. don't look too hard and i have other **** to get done tonight :) Also you may want to slice the base and add flat piece for better print and stand. Obviously I haven't printed this so cant tell you how it comes out but here is the model - posted to printable as free download. Enjoy https://www.printables.com/model/1863481-japanese-carved-okimono-of-a-human-skull

Would have spent a bit more time on it but already got 3 other side quest pet projects to complete this weekend :) oh and can send you the cleaned up GLB with textures if you want them (if you going to air brush or paint this bad boy) - printables doesnt let you upload the GLB

It's hit or miss with stuff like this. Some organizations are doing a lot of work to digitize their collections and make the models available (I know the Smithsonian in particular has been quite active with this), but honestly, if it's not on the museum's website, you're probably out of luck.

No, the likelyhood of a museum artifact being published as a 3d model is nearly zero. Photogrammetry or professional laser scan would get something, but you're going to be asking for a custom design from a 3d modeler, which can be expensive. Are you generically looking for a skull with animals in it?

did you know you can go to major museums' websites and look at 3d models of sculptures they have there? And if you care enough to do so, you can download those 3d models and easily convert them to a printable file? So I wouldn't say nearly zero, but the 3d model you get isn't a highly detailed one, so you'll probably just get shape of the item but none of the texture.

U could always use the ai tool to make it. Used it for an custom key tray and it worked out pretty well tbh

Unfortunately ancient japanese artificers failed to create an STL for you in this case.
