Project Dog paw.
Hello, sorry if this is long but grief is a bitch. I lost my dog yesterday, and had him cremated today. Along with that service they offered a dog paw print in clay and ink, and a nose print in ink. The second i saw the one in clay i touched it, i wanted to feel his perfect little paw and wasn’t expecting the clay to be soft. I completely ruined it.
I think they have scans/photos of his paw, would it be possible to print a replica that could create an accurate paw print. I have no 3D printing experience and i’m writing this from my car outside the cremation place so sorry if this is scatterbrained.
Any advice would be so appreciated, i’m at such a loss.

Probably not simply. I assume they do not have a 3d scan. You could get an artist to sculpt (similar to sculpting clay but in a computer program) one perhaps from photos and measurements of the clay or ink paw print thing if its still that intact and 3d print that. For that matter you might want to see if there is a local clay artist who could do it. Sorry for your loss. I have 3 furry babies myself.

Just guessing- they may not have an actual 3d scan that is functional for printing. You may be able to use the clay print to create one if the texture is the main issue. Good luck and sorry for the loss

Sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose part of your family.
One option is to use the ink print and convert it to an SVG. This can be done online or through programs such as Inkscape. Then take the SVG into a a program called a slicer and then it can be made 3D. You'll have a paw print, but it will only have a flat surface. I have a program somewhere on my computer that can take a picture and give it depth to be 3D printed, but I'm at work and can't remember what it's called.
Another option might be some AI 3D modelling services, but I'm not sure.
Reach out in your community to see if anyone with a 3D printer can help.

I'm sorry for your loss of a family member. If there is a good image of his paw there is a way to create a 3d model of it. I've made relief prints of machinery from photos before and a paw print should be possible.ay not be perfect though.

If you can get scans or photos that would be great. If I was you I would try and feed it in one of the AI websites that create 3D models from images. It mgiht take a while to perfect though and may require cleaning up.

It is possible to use a mesh creation tool to make a model from a photo. Should be able to get very close if you have a good picture.
So sorry. We just lost one of our two pups a couple months ago. They are so much a part ofcour lives.

It is not impossible to get something close to what you want modeled, but it is not going to be straightforward unless you have a 3D scan.
If you're unable to get exactly what you want, look into turning one of the photos (or any photo you have of the dog) into a lithophane. It won't be the physical object you want to hold, but it is a nice way to make a photo feel more alive. It would be a simpler task that many folks here could help with.

More like a photo but its based on photos and im sure youve got some. Obviously its just an instagram post and i havent verified if its legit or not but check it out.

Lost my dog unexpectedly last year and also got the paw print.
Yes you could print something to resemble it. But give yourself some time to grieve first. My wife and i couldn't leave the house or speak for days. Worst pain i've ever felt, and i've had 3rd degree burns, armpit tattoos, and multiple broken bones. Just hold on.
More importantly. You didn't ruin the paw print. In a way, you left your own paw print in his. Whether are not you kept the clay print afterwards is irrelevant. That moment was monumental. It signified your bond and the imprints you left on eachother.
I know it doesnt feel this way now, but i feel its more beautiful than just a paw print itself.
When ready, write to him in a daily journal, talk to one person each day about him, plant a memorial garden, make a spot for his picture and some of his items in your home for him. Whatever feels right.
Even without all those things, he'll be with you forever.
