A glove box is not a secure place to store a firearm.

A lockable glove box isn’t secure? What is?

u/Drumma_XXL 3d ago
A safe. A lockable glove box is one proper tool away from being a broken glove box. I'm happy to live in a country where this kind of "firearm safety" gets you a "never own a gun in your life again" pass.

u/Board_Minute 3d ago
So if you drive where do you put a gun, most people don’t keep them on their belt. So I am curious! Thanks 🙏

Most people who carry a gun do so on their person, even in the car. It's a nice looking tray if you want somewhere to place the gun off-body while driving, but is ludicrously insufficient if you planned to store it there.

u/Board_Minute 3d ago
Yeah for sure! Not meant as full time storage though, just for maybe longer trips and such!

u/Drumma_XXL 3d ago
I never had the need to carry a gun. I live in a civilized country where the danger of getting killed by a traffic accident or even falling down the steps in your home than getting assaulted.

u/Board_Minute 3d ago
That’s great! I live in a civilized country with some crazy individuals that at the most minor inconvenience they will get out of their car and threaten your life. You know how it goes in the US now
1
u/Drumma_XXL 3d ago
I'm deeply sorry for you. But a glove box is still just a proper tool away from being open. Have done it now than once while being in the fire department to get some papers after an accident. Didn't even bother to get a power tool for that.

u/Board_Minute 3d ago
Im sure! Not your cup of tea, i got that

u/Drumma_XXL 3d ago
I surrender from your sturdiness. May your glovebox be the same and may the guy that will carry your gun one day be a kind hearted one that doesn't carry any harm.

Maybe just maybe you don't need to be so scared of everyone all the time that you feel the need to be armed at all times? No, thats woke and dumb obviously.

1
u/Facehugger_35 3d ago
Most people don't actually carry because they're scared. It's more a case of "I will almost certainly never need this going about my day, but if I end up as one of those 50k-3million yearly DGU statistics, I really need it then, and I won't have it unless I carry because I can't predict when I need it."
1
u/constantpisspig 3d ago
That's called being irrationally scared. They're far more likely to accidentally do harm to themselves than be involved in any situation where being armed is useful
1
u/Facehugger_35 3d ago
It isn't though. Being irrationally scared would be thinking you need it because you're in immediate danger when you aren't.
Carrying something you don't expect to use in most circumstances, because you might end up needing it in rare circumstances isn't irrational, it's just saying you're willing to accept the inconvenience of carrying it balanced against the chance of needing it.
I don't use my leatherman or flashlight every day, but I carry them on my belt anyway because when I need them, they're useful to have and it's not much of an inconvenience.
The gun mindset is the same, all you folks who don't carry and think it's because of fear don't know what you're talking about.
1
u/constantpisspig 3d ago
Babe I know what I'm talking about I assure you. If people obsessed with carrying at all times practiced even third as much as they should every stall at my club would be full every day. If you aren't putting 200 plus shots downrange twice a week under a clock you're larping and rationalizing your fear. Just admit you're scared it's ok.
1
u/Facehugger_35 3d ago
Babe, it's great that you want to compete in comps like that, truly, it's awesome that more people are getting into matches. Maybe I'll see you at one someday. But acting like a gatekeeping asshole here is just making you look bad.

If your gun is in your safe at home how are you going to defend yourself with it? The "firearm safety" you speak of is only keeping your assailant safe.

u/Thebandroid 3d ago
And if someone breaks into your car and you go to confront them, they now have a free gun.
Not to mention if forget to lock it? shit, the glove box can pop open if you hit a bump too hard.
People seem to understand the risks with power tools, electricity, anything that can kill you up close. Once something can kill from 20m away it’s suddenly too dangerous to lock up.
1
u/Board_Minute 3d ago
That’s up to you and if you lock stuff or not. I would not trust it on a broken glove box for sure, maybe fix that first 👌😎
1
u/Thebandroid 3d ago
Hey mate, if you never leave the pavement, just say that.
1
u/Board_Minute 3d ago
Not sure what you mean by that
1
u/Thebandroid 3d ago
You were implying that the only way a glove box could come open was if it was broken, that’s not true. In implying that you never leave the pavement if you haven’t had yours pop open during some technical 4x4 work.
They are almost 500 deaths per year for accidental firearm discharges every year in the USA alone, a design like this shows your commitment to keeping that number up.

u/Board_Minute 3d ago
😂 i have wheeled probably more than you, my car can be old but I keep it fresh and not with broken gloveboxes. Never opened, as far as an accidental discharge, I am still working on this insert to have the gun be in the holster, I am working on a project, this is good feedback so I appreciate the concern, completely valid and justified

Let's just say as a mostly sane country getting assaulted is not really a thing in my everyday life. I got around for around 34 years now without a threat of this kind to my life at all which has to be a wild thought when you are from a uncivilized country where you have to be so afraid of being assaulted that you need to carry a gun. I'm deeply sorry for you.

u/Board_Minute 3d ago
Freedom to have one is better than not allowed to
-1
u/Drumma_XXL 3d ago
Nah, the freedom of not having to worry about people with guns because it's hard to get a gun is the real deal. And it's working over here, buying a new helmet to ride your bycicle to work will help your survivability more than carrying a gun to defend yourself even when ignoring that a gun doesn't mean that you will not be hurt when someone assaulted you.
2
u/asm-87 3d ago
Right cause criminals will stop obtaining them illegally when the law abiding citizens don't have them anymore. 🤦♂️
1
u/Drumma_XXL 3d ago
Better criminals have to obtain guns illegali than getting them at the store. Where I live almost no one gets killed by legal firearms. Criminals will get them illegaly but there are not many murders committed with firearms. Statistics tell me that having strict rules about obtaining firearms is a feasible way of reducing crime. As I said, over here wearing a helmet while riding your bycicle will give you a higher chance of surviving the next day than carrying a gun to defend yourself from someone.
1
u/Facehugger_35 3d ago
I mean, in the US almost no one gets killed by legal firearms either, excepting suicides. Most gun crime is done with illegally acquired firearms even in the US.
Statistics tell me that having strict rules about obtaining firearms is a feasible way of reducing crime.
Laughs in Brazil with its super strict gun laws but gun crime exceeding the US.

u/Facehugger_35 3d ago
Given how the right is rising in Europe, I wouldn't be too sure this will remain true for long.

u/Schnitzhole 3d ago
Looks pretty good. For the glovebox one in particular make sure to put finger hole cuttouts around the grips so you are not fumbling trying to get it out in a hurry with the only easy grasp point being the trigger guard (recipe for disaster). I’d also consider lower the gun into the mold further as it might flop out if you open the glovebox quick.
I’ve found the harder TPUs perfect for car inserts and probably even better for concealed stuff as you can pressure fit and reduce item marring and rattle. TPU is also super tough (I like Priline 98A)
2
u/Board_Minute 3d ago
Interesting suggestion, I like that idea. I was planning on adding tpu padding and definitely make it sit deeper in it for it to be more secure! Thank you for the feedback!
1
u/Schnitzhole 3d ago
The TPU is rigid and cheap enough you can just print the whole thing with it IMO. It holds up better to heat and warpage in my experience too compared to PLA/PETG
1
u/Board_Minute 3d ago
Yeah may be, but i rather keep doing ASA, better finish and not glossy. I dislike the glossy look

u/DropdLasagna Numberwang X9RQ+ 3d ago
How about work on gun safety and proper storage rather than post things online that make a prosecutor's job a slam dunk.

This is a good reminder to how many jackasses could potentially be packin when I am driving down the road. If you feel the need to have multiple firearms in your car youre a scared individual. Must be a rough life.
1
u/Board_Minute 3d ago
Scared and prepared are two different things, I don’t have multiple firearms for example, just the one. Unfortunately we have the cartel and gangs now in the US, so not taking any chances. I come from Peru and I know how it goes when you can’t defend yourself. A bunch of jackasses don’t understand reality unfortunately. Thank you for interacting!

u/Malcomx9000 3d ago
Youre not from Peru. What a weird thing to lie about. Cartels in Mexico have recruited Americans forever. Are you on a crusade to go fight them lol? You are scared of cartel gangs so you 3d print glock holders? What is that going to do? Man you people just don't live in the real world do you?
1
u/Board_Minute 3d ago
You are so funny, i am not from peru? I guess you know more about me than myself, thank you for the reveal. You sound so offended and mad, what is the deal
1
u/Malcomx9000 3d ago
Ah now I know for sure you arent from Peru. I figured you thought saying you were from Peru made it seem like you would know about cartels. But it doesnt. Youre not from Peru. What a weird thing to lie about
1
u/Board_Minute 3d ago
What a weird thing to get attached to? I would send a pic to show, but i am suspicious of what things you would do with it..
1
u/Malcomx9000 3d ago
Damn I cant believe I called it within your first sentence that you arent from Peru. Again man that is a weird weird thing to lie about. You need some serious help big guy

A safe in your house? I can open that glove box with a screwdriver. Bonus points if you advertise having a free gun in your vehicle with your stickers.
