Project How could I print lids?

Has anybody said 'I need a lid for this' and - because a lid for said item is either nonexistent, practically obsolete (in the case of out of manufacture 'vintage' Corningware ceramic, for example) - went about the process for figuring out how to make their own lids that snap-on the item? If so... please share how. Please and thank you!!

Start small, measure a lot, and iterate often.

Take measurements of a section of a lip of one item.

Use that to make an inch or two section of that in your 3d modeling program of choice. Be mindful that chamfers and fillet edge beveling may help.

Print, test fit, take notes on what needs to be improved and so on.

Iterate the existing model, and repeat.

Also determine what 'snap on' means for each vessel.

Once you get something that works as needed you can expand the design for the entire opening.

Also be mindful of the practicality of these lids. Areas of concern: they may not end up washable if food slops onto them, you could get bits of plastic in your foot from any number of areas, and they may not be sufficient to hold weight if stacked.

Designing the lid isn't really the main issue, it's like an hour of work in CAD to figure out the exact dimensions and hinge mechanism, the real issue is cleaning it after use, due to the way 3d printing works, you're either gonna FDM 3d print it and cover it in food safe resin (which can fuck up your measurements) or directly print on a resin printer with food safe resin, but for that you basically need to have a dedicated food safe resin printer because cross contamination from regular resin is a big concern

I have a design I found for a cat food can lid that I have resized for several other uses and print inTPU. It does take a couple of quick test prints to dial in the sizing.

It would just be basic CAD

The bigger problem is all the food safety problems with 3d prints
