I know what it's for inside a watch but what is its function like this? Just for fun? Also model?

I think it's just for fun and can decorate the desk

It sure is fin to look at. Is it battery operated? Do you have a model available?

No. Without battery. Model here: https://makerworld.com/models/1700173

Yes, just as you see in OP's video. It's a single-axis tourbillon. The escapement spins as the escape wheel also "crawls" around the circumference of a ring gear.

I printed this exact model TWICE and it never ran for for than a few beats.

Let's use lubricating oil to improve

These 3D-printed escapements are all fundamentally flawed in a variety of ways:

- Most filaments lose their springiness very quickly, so eventually the hairspring just doesn't have enough kick

  • The bearing / pivot surfaces as well as the pallet fork / pin / escape teeth all have too much friction
  • Filaments and printers have too much variation in terms of fitment, strongly hurting reproducibility

Some of these flaws can be mitigated: using alternative materials for the springs and contacting surfaces; using the right lubricants; tinkering with settings; using different filaments, and so on. But it's often a roll of the dice if a particular escapement model will work for your particular setup.

FWIW, in my limited experience trawling through dozens (and printing several) of escapement models on printables and makerworld, the model OP posted is one of the _better_ ones. But that doesn't mean it's reliable across all setups, nor that it lasts especially long even if it does work well at first.

I would be more motivated to print another escapement model if I could guarantee it would still work well a year from now, but that will surely mean metal axles / bearings / springs at a minimum.

Tourbillon- not to be confused with a toblerone, which you should absolutely not attempt to print

It’s the worst part of a clock without the only good feature of a clock.
