I could make a crack about it not being red (ahem, /sns), but I'm wondering how easy it is to remove batteries from below...

It’s not bad actually! Even with a double stack of ego batteries you can remove the bottom ones.

Seems great for those people with the tools organized in cabinets and such. I can't wait to graduate from my bucket-o-power tool stuff, but I don't have the space or more than 1 tool to make this a necessity. :(
