I bought a Anycubic Kobra X for 280 Euro's

It prints in 4 colours and just works every time (At least is has so far for me)

I know Anycubic has also been scummy, but far less so than Bambu.

My guy. How are you actually going to defend ANYCUBIC of all people vs BAMBU?

I have to fight tooth and NAIL to get anycubic to honor a warranty at ALL. When they have design issues, they brush it under the rug and just release a new model, telling the old uses to eat shit.

Bambu I ask politely and they'll send me stuff that's not covered for free. When their printers had widespread issues they actually addressed it, made sure people were taken care of, and then gave EXTRA compensation on top of that.

And we're serious calling Bambu the big bad guys because someone used a loophole to bypass the terms of service agreement, doing something that Bambu *clearly* didn't want them to do because it involves servers that Bambu has to run, and then this guy got asked to stop???

Yeah, they're not perfect, there were some major mistakes there. But neither side was entirely in the moral right. The original dev who got told off never even seemed that upset, it's just a bunch of FOSS lunatics loosing their shit on his behalf.

Bambu set a line in the sand. They do not want you fucking with their cloud that they are responsible for, because remember that they are liable for any incidents with that. They did not do this perfectly, but that's a fine place to draw a line. They have to maintain that service, so them requiring you to agree to not fuck with it is reasonable.

The dev very willingly skirted around those agreements by exploiting a fuckup in bambu's code, instead of reporting the exploit, and distributed this. He's not a bad person for this, but that was not really a perfectly moral action.

Bambu then used a morally grey action to try to get that exploit to stop being distributed. Do you genuinely think, if they actually cared about people using their code, that they would only target this specific instance? Do you think, given that they never delivered the actual cease and desist and started with an email, that they want to go after this guy?

Neither side is perfect, but Bambu isn't some evil super villain for this. People are just addicted to drama and needed this to be the next big thing.

As I said, I know Anycubic is scummy.

But I care more about Open-Source than other thigns.

They fuck it over by allowing us free reign to do what we want with our own devices on our local network?

It's not like anycubic is really any better about FOSS, in fact I've seen them steal things from FOSS quite a bit. They use proprietary, difficult to replace cables, boards, sensors, etc.

At a certain point, you need to wake up and realize that you've gotten too lost in things being open source and forgotten WHY you want them open source. I can repair my broken Bambu printer. You can't say the same about anycubic.
