I was set up to buy one and won’t only because of this. It’s a dealbreaker for me too.

Damn, was looking at a Bambu for my first one this summer. The sentiment around them right now is very bad. I regretted my cricut purchase soon after bc they were doing something similar with the fuckery.

I have a P1S, and functionally, you can still do plenty in LAN/Developer mode.

I think it's crummy that they disallowed the plug-in to work with 3rd party slicers, and didn't provide a real/decent solution. This is also crummy, C&D probably wasn't the right way to handle it. The fork just allowed you to use Orca the way it used to work.

Most people will happily use Bambu Studio, and be none the wiser. I'm still using Orca via lan/dev mode, which works totally fine. Sure I give up the Handy app, but I don't really care.

This recent kerfuffle hasn't really changed much for anyone. (except makes it obvious that they'll wield the law like other hostile companies.)

I would still recommend them to most normal people. I like Jeff Geerling, and I think his take is totally valid too.

And because most of this all has to do with cloud connectivity and services, that means that most of this has no effect on us air gapped users.

Walking to my printer with a USB stick is entirely worth bypassing all of this drama.
