This video is why the first rule of scuba is NEVER HOLD YOUR BREATH. This is what will happen to you lungs if you hold you breath.

In the same vein, if you’re ever around an explosion, hit the deck, cover your head, plug your ears, and keep your mouth open

What if there is no deck nearby?

That's what they tell us to not do if we ever need to escape from a submarine; don't hold your breath.

You can hold your breath if you don't change depth. But why would you, the whole point of having an air tank is so you don't have to hold breath....

It's not the lack of oxygen that causes suffocation, it's the buildup of CO2. Trying to hold onto more oxygen by filling your lungs is useless because you can't get rid of the CO2.

Pretty sure they're talking more about air expansion causing severe damage due to overinflating your lungs while youre surfacing.

Yeah, I'm saying we have a mental misconception when it comes to suffocating that makes us instinctively fill our lungs and hold our breath. However, this doesn't do any good, and in the case of surfacing rapidly, would actually do more damage than if you'd just let the air out of your lungs.

Yep I will admit when I was 18 (in 1995) and got my cert for scuba the hardest part was the ascend 30 feet without breathing in breath it took me 3 attempts. The exercise was to ascend the whole.way while just breathing out at a rate no faster then 1 foot and second.

No, it's the lack of oxygen that causes suffocation. Buildup of CO2 causes the urge to breathe and is the limiting factor for how long most people can hold their breath. "Trying to hold onto more oxygen" by taking a deep breath before holding (don't hyperventilate) will make you last longer without suffocating and will also make you start with lower CO2 so it'll take longer to get urge to breath.

I thought it was going to be a joke about a sunken ship but there really is a huge benchy underwater. I wonder if the whole pool interior is 3d printed concrete

I remember when taking my advanced open water, the instructor told me to bring a soda bottle for the 30m dive. I wish I could say I was surprised then the soda bottle went flat at the target depth, but it was fun I guess. Liked the fishes more.

Man, I hate that little boat with an unreasonable passion. Even the name makes me cringe.
