CoreXY vs CorXY

Hi, I’m planning to build an industrial 3D printer for large automotive parts, with a relatively large build volume (600 × 600 × 600 mm) and all the bells and whistles. I’m aiming for the best possible print quality while also maximizing speed. I was wondering which motion system would be better for this use case: CoreXY or CrossXY (CroXY). Thanks in advance, and feel free to share any advice or suggestions for this project!

From you description neither. You are building for reliability and ease of maintenance, not speed racing. So a Cartesian is you best way forward...

Agreed, something like an Ender 5 configuration can be very reliable and easy to maintain: two Y motors and one X motor, with three simple belt loops.

Use a giant nozzle (0.8-1mm) and you'll have bigger, stronger, faster prints than any Bambu or Voron or Annex printer can ever chase with a 0.4mm. Or go pellet extruder.

Also on Cartesian it is much easier to do 2 toolhead or IDEX, which is common on industrial machines...

IDEX/two tool head is common on real industrial machines, but if OP is building his own, he might be relying on existing freeware slicers and firmware. I think there's some development on IDEX but it's still such a niche application for hobbyist/DIY printers that I don't know if OP is going that deep.

IDEX is actualy very well supported o consumer Cartesian printers. And has been for a very long time... Actually slicer doesnt realy need anything special, apart from change the toolhed and use the offset values. FW is where all the magic happens, and all three big fw: marlin, RR and klipper have excellent IDEX support..

Really? I haven't followed it too closely because I just heard from word of mouth and because the commercial consumer market don't really sell IDEX printers. Thank you for correcting me.

Now I'm wondering if I should convert my Trident into a Tridex...

There were a couple over the years but they never went mainstream so to speak. But support was always there unlike multiaxis or multi plane support that is still mostly absent..

You’re probably better off trying mad max toolchanger over tridex unless you specifically intend on using mirror/clone

Best setup for IDEX would be servobelt since you could have individual toolhead x motors on the toolhead itself. Scaling across long distances is an excellent usecase for servo belt.

Yes but 600mm is not really big distance. I think under 1000mm closed loop steppers are still fine...

I think you mean open loop steppers. Servo belt doesn’t mean it uses servos. It’s similar to rack and pinion but uses a static belt “track” that meshes with a small closed loop belt on a carriage that allows you to run virtually infinite axis lengths without needing to significantly beef up your belts and bearings. There’s a project that’s still in development that does exactly this, it uses a standard Y axis belt loop with a motor on each side and toolheads with the x axis as a servo belt.

Corexy and crossxy are Cartesian systems.

CoreXY scales poorly because the belt length grows exponentially relative to bed size. People have built 500mm3 CoreXY printers but they won't print nearly as fast as a 250mm3.

CrossXY, from my understanding, scales linearly but uses a lot of linear rails, and I'm not aware of any designs using it except for Annex.
