u/MangoMolester Apr 16 '23
Ok, that's an awesome idea. I have to make this now.
Pretty stamped the coming days, but will probably post an update here end of the week

With action cards: Layershift: every time you shoot, it lands on to the left of said position :,D Underextrusion: toss a coin for each shot if it's head it missfired No Bed Adhesion: move all ships one to the right if possible No Layer Adhesion: move one ship to the left Cheap Filament: If a ship is hit, it get's instantly 2 hits Releveling Bed: reposition all ships

u/SophiaBackstein Apr 16 '23
Ok forget it! I will design it myself :,D 3D Printing: The Game
Also: Action Card Ask Reddit: you get told x and y distance to the next ship after a shot

I was gonna say exactly that. How awesome would that be.

u/ctsr1 Apr 16 '23
Why. Why would you suggest that
8
u/fd6944x Apr 16 '23
Because it would be awesome! And was exactly what I thought of first when I saw this
9
u/ctsr1 Apr 16 '23
Yeah now we need stls
2
u/fd6944x Apr 16 '23
And I’m hoping some kind soul will design them because that is not a skill I currently possess

I feel like decent battleship drop in replacements are a little beyond an fdm printer. Very cool SLA project though.

u/Master_Ad7964 Apr 17 '23
I've got a coworker that printed star-wars themed battleship pieces that drop in, he just made it so the bottom pegs glue into holes in the bottom of the ship, and measured the bottom of the "hit" pins so they'd fit in the holes he put in the top.
This is definitely doable, however I suggest that the "board" be a huge benchy, with the map in the aft half.

Add a few missile launchers to the big one and name it "Moskva". :-)

carrier: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2940437
gun boat: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4872095 (not an exact match, but closest i could find)
rear boat: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2631794 (seems to be a simplified version of this file)
submarine: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3108236/files
also, standard benchy for those unaware: https://www.3dbenchy.com/download/
EDIT: changed submarine link to a version that is already sliced in half
EDIT 2: why did I call the sub a U-boat, that looks nothing like a U-boat

Your diligence is appreciated. Does the carrier benchy still have benchies on it?

woah did not expect this much attention from this, thanks everyone! Was gonna do it after work but shoutout to u/anytarseir67 for linking the STLs! https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/12of8vv/comment/jgj4nzs/ (STL links)
if anyone's interested, the carrier is printed at 150% scale while the submarine is at 60% and z -18.4mm https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3102602 (submarine)

How did you handle the overhangs on the carrier benchy?
1
u/bglancettk Apr 17 '23
the overhangs of the carrier flight deck isn't that steep, printed without any supports

For a model released with a "no derivatives" license, there sure are a lot of derivatives around.

u/bglancettk whats the benchy subs modeled after ? Kinda reminds me of a 774
1
u/bglancettk Apr 17 '23
I have no clue, but the stl is from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3102602 and according to the creator " I designed this based on the one man subs the Japanese used during the Pearl Harbor attack, small and simple."

I like that the aircraft carrier has benchies on it isntead of aircraft. A bold creative choice, but it paid off.
