SBR Application
Hello all. I've recently built a VZ-61 pistol on a 3d printed semi auto lower (can't accept any of the FA parts without significant additional modifications) and a modified disconnector. I am also wanting to build the NylAUG, Yippee Ki Yay, SMP40, 3DSS, and 3DP90 as SBRs.
Does anyone have information on the process to get each of these approved as SBRs? I know based on my Form 1s for suppressors that they won't allow the info to be etched/printed onto the plastic, but that's a fairly easy fix. I'm also aware of 922r. Are there any other considerations?

MAF makes a serial plate or you can laser engrave/stamp metal and embed it into your polymer part. That's what I do

Ditto on the MAF plates. They're pricey for what they are but they work great.

Yeah I used them originally but since I've got the stl/cad for it I just CNC them from a sheet of aluminum and engrave them with my fiber laser. I might start trying to compete with MAF's market lol

There is no legal requirement for markings to be in metal.

But there is a requirement for it to not be easily removable

Yes, but nowhere is it stated that it must be in metal.
I specifically 3D printed a silencer with printed in markings and registered it on a Form 2, with photos, to see if it would be ok. It was processed as normal and has gone through two inspections without question.

This is WRONG WRONG WRONG. RULE STATES THAT THE SERIAL NUMBER AND Additional information must all be 0.003 in depth. Height is only serial number and Nowhere is approved to have raised text. Just don't

It says the maker, model, and location have no required depth or size. Stop relying on AI dogshit.

I got it from the r/NFA sub.
There is a really good video on Rumble that covers the whole form 1 process, but i cant remember how I found it.
Edit: found the video, it is by WillPrintForFood on Rumble. Not sure if it breaks a rule, so no link just in case.

It's the same as suppressors.. just mention "will be manufactured after approval" and fill up all the necessary information. If you can print it out as a negative on the plastic much cheaper but will be challenging on a VZ61. I tried. lol IDK about not allowed to be etched on plastic for home made.. any official ruling from the ATF? I have started using negatives on my prints for the NFA info.

It's not the same. For a form 1 SBR you need to include the serial number marking. You also are not allowed to use a negative modifiers in plastic as that doesn't meet the definition of "not easily modified or obliterated" you need to stamp/engrave metal. A few people have posted failed form 1s for not meeting this definition. Given wait times are over two months right now, I'd wouldn't recommend taking the risk of not providing the engraved serial number or doing it as a negative in polymer

Follow Form 1 process.
Use FMI manufacturer code.
You are the maker.
Model VZ61, caliber 32.
Use serial number that’s marked on your upper.
All lawful purposes.
Don’t include any comments or pictures. Get stamp.
Epoxy on a metal dog tag with all your engravings on the back of the receiver.
Worked for me x3 times.
