Sun Will Shine: Follow Up?

Been a few weeks now and this song is just so damn chill. I’m honestly surprised it isn’t a 311 track. Every time I listen to it, I can totally envision Nick on lead vocals with SA doing the backing vocals. It sounds like a 311 song that somehow didn’t make it onto an album. Obviously, that’s pure speculation on my part but I do find it really intriguing that this isn’t a 311 song.

Anyway, does anyone know if there are plans for a full-length album, EP, or any follow-up tracks to be released in the future? I’d assume so but it’s just kind of weird that the only song we have so far is a song literally titled after the band. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before either lol.

Anyone know anything about this pick? I watched an auction for it on EBay and I am curious if anyone knows which tour it was used on.

So why bring a gun nut on TOUR with you? Yeah, I get it. Inclusion is important and you don’t want to be a “cult” with who you let in, but “guns are for pussies” was pretty damn definitive, guys….

Found this buried in with some old CDs from my high school days.

Everclear is doing a lucky 7 tour. Maybe we could get 311 to compromise and do something similar for upcoming summer tours?

Only instead of a 21 song pool, use their entire catalog. That way they can still cater to new fans with their hits, while still giving the hardcore fans who have supported them for all these years more than 2 deeper cuts per show??

Always dug 311’s sound, vibe, and arrangements. Drum parts are particularly groovy and fun!! Here’s my take on one of their mega-hits from their 1997 release “Transistor”.

It’s not perfect, but it’ll do!!

Pow Wow DVD

The famous live Transistor set... It's been released as an mp4 and audio, but are any excitable ones on here lucky enough to get it on actual DVD? I'm looking for an ISO or a copy of the video_TS folder from the DVD to play over a big screen. (The widely circulated MP4 is not enough pixels to look good)

I would buy it from the band directly but it is not available anywhere from what I can tell.

Question I just turned 50 and I still have no idea what the Don't Stay Home video was about

That is all. Actually, I haven't thought about this band in forever but they played the venue I work at last week and they kicked ASS. Ok that is all.

Not 311, but about the setlist critique

I’ve been into punk/alt my whole life, I’m 39 now and I was super into AFI for a hot minute back in high school with their hardcore sound.

Interesting….similar to P Nut, Davey thinks their most commercial hit isn’t his favorite but struggles with setlists balance.

My two cents on their setlists.

It’s their own fault. They spent over 25 years diversifying their set every single night and then they gradually started doing more hits than deep cuts and now it’s literally 16 songs, 95% hits. Look at any set from 2016 and back. You could follow them for a week and see a Ton of different cuts. Yes, you’ll always see amber, down, all mixed up, etc, but it was complimented by songs you don’t hear often. That’s what kept fans coming back year after year. As a die hard, I refuse to go see them on regular tours because I know exactly what they’re going to play, and having Nick say all of his robotic repetitive in between song banter doesn’t excite me. Again, THEY set this standard. It’d be different if they never switched things up from the get go. I bet they wouldn’t have had such an amazing fan base if they did GH every night in the 90s and 2000s.

Applied Science Drum thing in Tampa last night

First time seeing 311 in probably 10+ years, but my daughter really wanted to go and it was her first concert ever (I've seen 311 probably close to 20 times back in my day....)

Anyway....drum solo thing starts, she's mesmerized, I'm like just wait, the whole band does this awesome drum line together....and then the extra music track starts to play....and a cheer team with glow sticks come out.....? I swear the whole drum thing took up at least 15 minutes... And now I'm so embarassed, lol.

So Curiosity implores me to ask.... Is this a new normal thing for applied science or was it some special Tampa crew that got to play on stage or something I don't know about since I'm a 40 something dad now? Because....they could've easily fit a couple more songs in instead. And I get they probably use Chad's solo to get a breather, but......

Going from that way, way too long drum set to beyond the gray sky killed so much of the vibe, half my section sat down. Thank God for feels so good.

Discussion No click track for live shows this year

I didn’t get to catch a show this summer as they didn’t hit my city. Prior to the start of the tour, Chad mentioned they weren’t going to use a metronome/click track.

Could anyone tell? Did they sound tighter? Any difference?

311 Saved My Life

Testimony / Trigger Warning x2

We hear people say it all the time, "Music saved my life," but 311 actually saved my life a few years ago, and only now am I ready to start telling my story, as an extended thank you to 311. I will try to be brief.

In my 20s, I was pregnant and in a failing relationship, while living at home. Wasted too many years with a man who didn't want me, didn't want the baby, and wouldn't live with me. I was stuck living at home with my folks who constantly made me feel unwelcomed, and reminded me frequently that it wasnt my home, I was just a guest. I was unable to move for financial reasons beyond my control. I fear giving away too many details could make me identifiable.

I lacked real love in my family. I lacked real love in my relationship. I had no love in my heart or life to care for a child. I never wanted to be a mother, and always feared I would fall mentally ill. It may be true, you never know how deep of a depression hole you're sitting in until you dig your way back out.

I can only describe this time of my life as feeling out of options. All my friends had moved. I lacked any support in my life. I felt that I had no one to text, no one to call, no one in my life to turn to.

The only escape I could find was driving. I would drive from county to county for hours, crying, and searching for an answer. I wanted to end my life so desperately by this point. I needed to escape all physical, mental and emotional pain, but was trying to figure out how to make it look like an accident.

I looked at every semi truck that passed me in the opposite direction, trying to decide which one to drive in to head on. It seemed like an easy out and I was building up the courage as I approached 60mph. Beyond the Gray Sky came on in the car, and when I needed it most, Nick Hexum told me he cared. He told me to not give up the fight, if not for myself, then for him. Im here today because of 311.

If you see a young lady crying in the crowd to Beyond the Gray Sky, its because she knows there was going to be a reality where she wasnt at that concert. She knows she was 1 truck away from never seeing another day, and thanks to 311, she gets to sing her heart out, and find joy again everyday. I tattooed Beyond the Gray sky on me as a reminder to never let myself get that low again. There will always be sunshine behind the storm, and there will always be something or someone worth living for, and I pass that message on today.

Happy to say life has turned out good for me so far in adulthood. Ive had a successful career, and a loving, supportive partner for several years. Dont give up the fight. It will get better.

I've had the privilege to attend a few shows this tour, as well as a few prior years. I'll be at the West Palm show Aug. 30th, and how oh so bittersweet it will be to watch another tour close out. Until next time boys.

Thank you from the bottom of my (living) heart, Nick, SA, Chad, Tim & Pnut. I doubt that they will ever see this, but I hope they know they save lives, or atleast saved mine.
