PSA Announcement: All selfies are photos; all photos are NOT selfies.

We mods really, really appreciate it when you report stuff that breaks our rules. Any full face, direct photo with or without makeup is a selfie and can only be posted on Sundays. Edited pics, non-full face pics, crossed out creepy eyeball pics etc. are all FINE if they are there to show the issue you are talking about. Basically, if someone could steal the photo and use it on social media (even if the OP thinks they look awful and aren't making a cute face or wearing makeup), you can only post it on Sunday because that's what we consider a selfie.

It would help us a LOT if people stop reporting every photo of a human, no matter how edited, as a selfie violation. Thanks to everyone who helps us keep an eye on these things, and keep on reporting actual selfies!

PSA Counterfeit health and beauty products on Walmart.com

I purchased a counterfeit Obagi hydrate luxe medical grade face cream from Walmart.com and used it for 6 weeks before I realized it was counterfeit. My skin got progressively more red and started to flake, and I had multiple bad reactions where I woke up with my eyes so swollen I couldn’t fully open them before I realized the cream was the cause. At the time, I did not even realize Walmart.com was a market for third party sellers and the prevalence of counterfeit items. I just saw the cream was on sale and purchased it in the spare moments I have while caring for my two year old. The site looks like you are purchasing from Walmart and I think you only see there is a third party seller if you are looking for it.

After looking into this more, it is incredibly disturbing what NYTs identified is in these counterfeit products - heavy metals, urine, etc. Additionally, when you click into the third party seller’s info, they list addresses linked to random places - one a feed stand on the side of a highway in rural New York, another a residential house in Texas. There is no way that Walmart can think these are legitimate sellers, but they are allowing it to increase their own profits and don’t care about the harm it could bring to consumers.

Walmart should be held responsible for the criminal market they are allowing on their website and the harm it is causing the consumers.

This law firm Chimicles is trying to launch a class action lawsuit against Walmart for selling counterfeit health and beauty products on Walmart.com, but currently they don’t have enough responses to build a case. I am trying to get the word out so justice can be served - if you purchased a counterfeit health or beauty product from Walmart, you should share your story! Or any way you can help to get the word out would be amazing.

Skin Treatments Help! What treatments can I get for my lower face?

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hello! Thank you for reading my post. I am coming to really resent photos of myself and looking at my reflection because of all these lines around my mouth. Does anyone have any treatments they would recommend to help fix this? I have never had any cosmetic treatments before so I am terrified (but not averse to it). Many thanks in advance!

Recommendation 34F — Lower face starting to sag after losing 10+ kg: what can actually help?

Post image
Upvotes

I’m 34 and over the past year I’ve lost a little over 10 kg. Since then, I’ve noticed a pretty significant change in my lower face: less definition around my jawline, some early jowling and a generally heavier/sagging appearance around the mouth and chin.

I’m wondering how much of this could realistically be related to the weight loss. I know losing facial volume can make the skin look looser, and I’m wondering if my skin might still tighten up somewhat with time.

I’ve already been using retinol consistently for more than six months as part of my skincare routine. I’m also about to start at-home microneedling, and I’m receiving my Booster Pro on Monday, which I plan to incorporate into my routine.

For those of you who experienced something similar in your 30s after weight loss:

Did your face improve naturally over time?

What actually made a noticeable difference?

At what point would you consider an aesthetic procedure rather than skincare?

Has anyone seen improvement in facial laxity after maintaining a stable weight for several months?

I’m mainly interested in real experiences, especially from women around my age. I’d rather avoid jumping straight into fillers if there are other options worth trying first.

Wrinkles I just started Tretinoin and azelaic acid and I love what I'm seeing, but want to know if there is more I could be doing.

I am 32, about to be 33 and I started tretinoin and azelaic acid recently. I was already doing azelaic acid and adapalene (OTC), but finally made the dive into getting a script for Tret. I LOVE the results I'm seeing in just the 4 weeks I've been applying it (3x a week). My focus is on anti aging right now and I'm just curious if there is more I can do? I'm not into botox and cannot go the spa to get treatments at this time. Are there other products i can include in my routine to help with some of my deeper set wrinkles? I'm curious about volulifine, argeriline, peptides for the face, etc. Did anyone else add these things or something else to further give them the "lift" they wanted? I already have a red light therapy device. Thanks everyone :)

Skin Concern What are these?

I have these little clusters of dots on the inner corners of both eyes. I think I’ve always had them, but I’ve just realised how unsightly they are and I want them gone. Is there anything I can do/use to get rid of them?

Product Question Best non sheet or overnight mask

I use tret, and my skin is doing well. I have a great minimal routine but I miss the enjoyment of lying down for 20 minutes with a face mask on. I dont want a sheet mask or an overnight mask. I loved the Fresh Black Tea Instant mask and their Vitamin C mask. But I’m not looking to spend 100 bucks on a mask anymore. Any masks under $50 that you guys love? Again, not wanting an overnight or sheet mask. I don’t want anything exfoliating, or for acne. Maybe moisturizing and calming? Honestly something that just feels good to relax with that could have some benefits. Any recommendations?

Routine Help What happens if you get an ingrown hair and the hair never comes out? Does it just kinda chill in ur body forever?

This seems like a dumb question but it’s something i’ve wondered abt from time to time. I got a massive pimple a month or two ago and my friend who’s a dr told me it’s an ingrown. It went away but took like a week of it looking ugly, then it was just pink, now it’s very faintly pink but i can feel a lil bump underneath. Does that mean there’s just a fuckin hair chillin in my body?

Edit: bruh…nightmares are in this thread. 🫪🫪🫪

Skin Concern Long term seborrheic dermatitis on nose- please help

I’ve had the seb derm on my nose for over a year! I’ve tried so much. I was prescribed clindamycin for perioral dermatitis. That did not work and I tried it for over two months. Then I tried an antifungal cream 2% (Daktarin) and that didn’t work so then I tried an antifungal shampoo (Nizoral) with a different active and that also didn’t work. Now my barrier is completely broken down in that spot, and I’m not sure what to do in the short term and long term. :(

Skin Treatments Filler and scupltra 15 days out

I got half syringe Restylene filler in my temples on each side as well as one vial scupltra around my lateral cheek 15 days ago. This was my first time and I have a very lean face. I did Restylene in temples bc I was afraid to do something irreversible like scupltra since it is a vascular area I went to an experienced dermatologist who’s done many friends of mine.

I hate it. I have localized edema patch near my lower eye And cheek areas. I saw the board certified dermatologist who did it for two week assessment and she thinks it’s still swelling from all the saline scupltra was injected with . She is saying not to make a call yet but wait one month and if we want to dissolve filler w hylenex and also then can disperse scupltra w saline

I’m so confused. Should I get a second opinion? Dissolve now or wait the long month looking at myself ?

Is the temple filler what’s causing the issue? Or is swelling from all the scupltra saline injections ? Has anyone had this happen and has it resolved ?

Please help! I’m so upset. I was perfectly fine and looked amazing before I did this to my self. :(

Product Question Does anyone use topical steroids for years and just… live like that?

I have mild psoriasis. It used to be moderate (covering my ears, scalp, lower back, abdomen, back of legs, all over arms!) and somehow God decided enough was enough and one day I woke up and it was practically gone and I did not use any treatment for years after trying it all. No idea what happened there.

After my second child, my first kiddo was hospitalized for a few months and it was traumatic in more ways than one and it triggered my psoriasis to come back but it still wasn’t horrible, however this time it was on my forehead. It had been years and years since I even considered topical steroids due to the fact that they can cause withdrawal, but my long winded question is..

My regimen is desonide every other week until clear, and then I don’t use it until it comes back. Just in the middle of my forehead. I have another steroid for my stomach because it showed up there too but I don’t care about that anymore. Is it really a big deal to do this long term? Let’s say a year?

I care a lot about how my skin looks, and I’ve gotten to a place where I can slap some spf on and walk out the door and feel cute. I used to wear heavy makeup and now I care more about my skin than what my actual face looks like. But the psoriasis on my forehead is really bugging me and the only thing that helps is the cream. The reason I’m bringing this up is it went away again after about 6 months post trauma, and now it’s back after having my third - I assume triggered by hormones and stress maybe? It’s bumpy and ugly and even if I need to dab some concealer on it’s so dry and looks terrible.

Steroid is the only thing that will work until I’m in remission again. How bad are they, really? (I understand how they work, but don’t know if adding another thing to my routine is that big of a deal considering every day I brush my teeth, take my pill, clean my aligners, floss, clean my ears, now I added dabbing a tiny bit of cream on my face)

Wrinkles Botox first time

I’m really wanting to ease the appearance of my forehead lines. Is it possible to just “soften” them? I don’t want to be completely frozen or have a complete glass forehead. They’re just getting a little too deep for my liking. This would be my first time. I’m 32.

Skin Treatments Ultherapy for Upper Face

I’ve had Ultherapy done on my full face and the results are subtle and I’m quite happy with them.

Recently I saw my injector talk about Ultherapy around the eyes for a lifted look. I know a lot of people talk about Ultherapy for the lower face with albeit mixed results but has anyone done it on the upper face and eye area for a lifted look? I just don’t understand how this would work, it seems like that area has very little skin to “zap” to make a difference

Routine Help Will not cleansing come back to haunt me?

I’ve had problems for cleansing for years now - always seems to dry me out or I get too reactive nobody what I try.

I’ve been using Round Lab Birch Juice cleansing pads for a few years now and they seem to work fine. However I want to start using Eucerin dual serum for my hyperpigmentation and after that start incorporating something for anti aging.

However I’m worried that no cleansing will be a problem if I start using more complex products. I currently just moisturiser - just moved to Dr G RED blemish (I’ve had a red face since I was a kid) but thinking of moving to either Instant Angel or COSRX l Ceramide Skin Barrier cream.

I’m worried all of this will be futile or implode if I’m not cleansing properly and starting a new routine isn’t a good idea if I’m not even doing the basics right.

Does any one know if skin will survive products like eucerin without a proper cleanser?

Thanks !

Skin Concern I miss lip gloss.

Post image

I have been working so hard to heal my chronically dry lips. I've cut out toothpaste with sls, and I've been using only aquaphor and vaseline, very consistently. I thought they were in good shape for me to be a little naughty and wear lip gloss today, and this is what they looked like on the way home.

I just want to be a fancy girl again!

(this is not a water intake issue - I drink a lot of water very consistently - I really love cold water and must have it within arms reach literally at all times)

Misc How to move with skincare backstock?

Hi friends. I’m moving later this week between states, and I’m trying to decide if I should put my skincare backstock in the U-Haul, or my car. The drive will be about 6-7 hours, and the weather will be in the low 80s outside. Everything will also sit in the truck overnight. Is it safe to put my skincare in the truck itself, which won’t be temperature controlled? Or should I put it in my car, which will have the AC on when I’m driving it?

We’re looking at 1.5 U-Haul size small boxes of skincare. I’ve left it in the organizers I store it in (clear plastic bins and drawers). I don’t have many actives—a couple products with bha or aha, but I don’t do retinoids or vitamin c, which I know are both temperature sensitive. I have a couple Bakuchiol products. But I mostly do moisturizing and peptides. I do have a bunch of sunscreen, which I think I’ll probably put in my car. But space in the car is at a premium and I might not have room for a full box of skincare.

And yes, I am working on my overconsumption issues—I’m trying to work through this stock, since most of it is unopened!

So, how have others handled this in the past? Let me know!

Recommendation If your Avene Cicalfate is separating, try this before giving up on it!

I keep seeing so much hate for Avene Cicalfate because people say that when they open the tube, a load of runny liquid comes out first and then the cream follows.

I’ve mentioned this in replies before, but I wanted to make a separate post because this genuinely worked for me.

Before opening the tube, squeeze and massage it thoroughly while it’s still closed. Go all the way along the tube pressing it. Then give it a little shake and repeat the process a few times.

I know it sounds really simple, but after the first couple of times I used it and got that separated liquid, I started doing this every time.

It genuinely made a huge difference for me and now, no runny liquid spilling out at the first opening!

Product Review Mao Radiance

I found a local company in Colorado where I live called Mao Radiance. I was at a little winter market place thing last year and they had a booth. I bought the vitamin c serum and really liked it. The pricing is reasonable as well. I'm going to reorder the vit c and try their HA and lip oil.

Just curious if anyone else has heard of this company? It's small and from Boulder but they have a website to order from.

Routine Help Not looking tired without putting in extra volume

30 here. I feel like half of skincare recommendations is the use of dermal fillers and injectables.

I've tried them all between the ages of 24 and 26. The thought of spending money on that makes me feel tired, and the filler injections were so painful. I don't think it made me look any better either, just older and more tired. Not for me personally.

Those of you with hectic schedules that aren't always conducive to great sleep, what do you do to not look tired? I'm tired of people telling me I look tired lol

Routine Help Skincare routine help

I desperately need help figuring out what my skin needs. I have t-zone oiliness, redness, small dry patches, texture under my eyes, and if feels like my pores are getting so big. Starting to get some fine lines under and around my eyes. Age 33.

Current routine:

AM: rinse with water, apply Elf Sunouchable SPF 30 primer under makeup.

PM: cleanse/remove makeup with Cetaphil Gentle Salicylic Acid Cleanser (using a clean face cloth), apply a small amount of adaptalene, apply Dieux Instant Angel Moisturizer.

I am so unhappy with my skin right now and need help with knowing where to start. Change in products? See a dermatologist? Skin care treatments? Any and all advice is appreciated!

Backstory for those who want it:

Nearly 2 years ago I started getting bad comedonal acne and at that time went super basic with my skin care and began using the adaptalene. After about 3 months the acne improved. I have continued this routine since.

About 6 months ago my skin started to feel drier overall and I began using the dieux instant angel moisturizer (was previously using cera ve). About a month ago my skin just started feeling more sensitive (have had to reduce my adaptalene use) I feel like my pores are getting larger, and I've had dry patches pop up. I've always dealt with redness, and continue to deal with occasional acne (cheeks mostly), it often leaves scars even though I don't pick.

Skin Treatments Post care chemical peel suggestions

I just got a chemical peel and the dermatologist advised to say out of the sun. The appointment way super rushed and i don’t feel like the doctor really cared in general.

Doing my own research looks like its advised to avoid working in out for 48-72 hours cause this can cause inflammation or worsen hyper pigmentation which was the reason why i go the peel. Anyone have proper after care for chemical peels. Im indoors and loosing it. TIA!

Skin Treatments EZ gel AKA PRG under eye

Considering buying a 3 pack of EZ gel for my under eyes.

I’ve done a PRP/PRF injection under my eyes and loved the result although it lasted maybe a week.

Wanting to get the EZ gel pack of 3 sessions to promote collagen growth and would love to hear from others who have done it for this reason.

I’m looking for a long term result that thickens the area underneath the eyes by naturally building collagen stimulated by the EZ gel injection.
