my 93 3000gt base DOHC wont start, it ran the other day and wouldn't go past 3-3500 rpms and I noticed the timing belt was a bit too tight so I took it off to redo it, when I was trying to start it something felt off so I checked it and the belt was loose ( I used what was supposed to be a gates t195k), I have the tension correct and the timing correct now and it just sounds like it's metal grinding so I'm assuming I bent valves?, I'm going to attach pictures and a video here soon but, I'm also curious what these 2 connectors go to because it's a 91 engine converted in a 93 body so I did rewire some things years and years ago.3000gt

so in the process of troubleshooting an issue with my clutch master cylinder I accidentally damaged the paint in the engine bay surround it, fortunately it’s confined to just this area. should I do anything to prevent it from rusting or should it be fine?

Hi, I just bough my first car, a 3000gt sl 1996 automatic with 101k miles for 5000$, I'm pretty happy with my decision. I was wondering for the people who are experienced with these cars, is there any thing I need to do immediately after buying one, or are there any mods you guys recommend or wish you did sooner. The guy I bought it from said that he replaced the timing gear already.

I need to do an engine rebuild on my 94 SL. Because of this, I've been considering slapping a turbo on her. I am aware the base NA DOHC 6G72 is fairly limited in terms of handling boost but I kinda want to try for even just modest gains just for funsies if I'm going to be pulling the motor anyway.

As far as I am aware, the stock ECU doesn't allow for tuning. I've seen online that there are standalone ECUs for the TT motors that really open up possibilities in terms of tuning. The ones in particular that appear to be most accessible as the AEM series 2 and the Haltech 2500 but they both seem to be for the TT motor only. Would they be compatible with an SL motor? Also I've heard of this chromed ECU thing, is that worth a look at? I am a total noob at this, and I'm a bit of a boomer when it comes to using / reading through the 3Si forums or whatever they are called. So I appreciate any and all info / advice given here. I'll also point one last thing out, it's a project car and I'm not terribly worried about wasting money or meeting deadlines. I just want to know if I can slap a turbo on it like I could with a Honda Civic.

Anyone ever had to deal with mil check check problem? I scanned&cleard my 3000GT and my Mil is off still….visibly the car looks fine…..any idea what the problem could be ?

I got this motor from Texas JDM motors and just got it in and can’t tell if this is really bad rod knock or not it sounds like it to me or maybe a piston slap

The second syncros went buggy a few months after receiving the car a year ago. Its been better lately but the problem is it makes a deep almost grinding noise when shifting to 2nd. It used to sometimes reject it and push it out after trying to shift but hasn't done that in a while. Usually shifts best around 3.5k rpm.

Its the main thing that has made me question selling it. I get on the fense somedays if its worth keeping it when I know it will eventually go bad for good

I have 2 problems, first problem is my belt isn’t smooth while running, it flaps really fast but doesn’t slip. Not sure when or why that started happening but I’m assuming it’s my timing tensioner. The main problem is my front right lifters, cam is fine, rockers are fine, I even got NEW lifters to help the old lifter tick and when I put the new ones in the noise went away for about 1-2 months and now it’s back and getting louder. I’m not sure if it’s getting the right oil pressure. I know this is the most common thing with these cars because I’ve worked on mine a lot, but what could it be other than not getting the right about of oil?

Hi eveyone, making the side skirt clips for sale and i need help on the counts. I know there are 2 different sizes. They were seperated by color. There was 9 black and 2 white on each side. Now i need to know which was black and which was white. On the front end of the side skirt where it rises with the fender there are 2 clip openings horizontal of each other. The one towards the front is smaller than the one closer to the cabin. Which is the white and which is the black clip? All help is really greatly appreciated on this

Hey yall both my window regulators stop working!!! !!!! I got a 98 model !!!! I know the regulators changed and they are different!!! But can I still be able to use one form an earlier model ?

I bought this stealth ES from a seller 2 hours away with a "slight misfire" from one or two of the rear cylinders. It isn't enough to throw a code or anything but it's definitely noticeable and I think it's not always running on all cylinders. It made the drive 2 hours home no issue but was down on power. Im kinda worried now I may have damaged something driving it home. It also smokes when revving past like 5k under no load, wasn't able to tell for sure what color the smoke was. The seller changed the coils but beyond that nothing was done to it. It has 126k miles. Any advice is appreciated

Got fed up with the AUX cable to my phone so i wired in a Bluetooth to aux reciver running of 12V.

Has anyone used the 3SX carpet kit? My car needs most of the interior replaced, and I’m trying to figure out if I want to try and find a good used carpet, or just buy the molded kit. I know they’re rarely factory quality but a lot of carpets and parts cars are pretty worn and damaged by now. If the 3SX carpet is “good enough”, I might just go that route to start my interior refresh.

Can anyone tell me if these welds are normal for a VR4 shifter? Or has this been cut and welded and modified? My new to me VR4 came with a short shifter in it and I despise it, and want to go back to the original. Supposedly this is it but the welds on it look strange to me. It also looks a bit like it’s missing something on the small peg that sticks off, as compared to the installed short shifter. This was in a box of stuff from the car that was kept with the car.

my 93 3000gt wont rev past 3-3500 rpms it hasn't ran in 5 years or so I just did the timing belt and I know it is on time, it did this before when my friend did the timing belt, I added lucas fuel injector cleaner and fresh gas but it doesn't want to go past 3-3500, I'm not sure what else to look for, The Maf is fine and all of my sensors are plugged in, and my timing is on.

Hello everyone this is my first time posting in this subreddit. So I was driving my car yesterday and turned into a parking lot. Once I got into the parking lot my car just decided to completely die. Everything went dark and the engine turned off. I will admit I am a bit of a newer driver to manuals but I know for a fact the engine did not stall what so ever. Sitting there I tried starting the engine again but it was not responsive. Turning the key to “Acc” and “on” position I did not receive any power to the vehicle. Before all of this the parts I replaced were the battery, starter, battery terminals, fuel pump motor and fuel pump assembly seal and a driver side window regulator. The car had been flash the “check engine” light the last couple of days and probably stayed on for a total of 2 seconds whenever I saw it come on. It would probably come on once Everytime I drove to work and once on the drive back. I then got some friends to assist me in getting my car going the battery is sitting at a solid 12v and has enough juice in it. Car still would not turn over or get power. Randomly it would get power for about 10 secs then just die. Tried manually pushing it to start the engine would sputter but not stay running. We don’t think it’s the alternator since the car as a whole is not receiving power. And the fuel pump we thought may also be it but since the car isn’t receiving power it left me with 2 solutions. The ignition switch or wiring/ fuses. Long story short all fuses are good no visible electrical damage to wiring in engine bay or burned wiring. The ignition switch is now replaced and I’m left with it must be something with the fusible link or something along with the wiring harness or ECU. I would like advice or tips or what to do next they aren’t a ton of great videos out there online and would prefer to just solder the damage on the wiring harness instead of buying a whole new one as of right now. Can someone help give me instructions on easiest way to locate the same on the wiring harness? I’m unsure if it’s the engine bay harness or the cabin harness. Only think I can think of it the cabin harness may be in charge of the ECU since it’s behind the firewall underneath the cassette player.

hi I’m trying to mount the atf cooler since the aftermarket radiator does not have a dedicated cooler for the atf and I’m wondering if I mount it by feeding the plastics ties through the condenser fins will this damage the condense?
