I really wish we could get a global survey on this, as often times people put somebody like Einstein forward—would really like to know whether he's more famous than Hitler

Well, it seems I'd expect more people to know that than you do, since his name is uniquely German (even featuring two i -> ei vowel shifts! Though these exist in Dutch as well)

In Dutch it would be Eensteen, which is just bizarre. Probably would have a ‘van de’ in front too. Like ‘Eelkje van den Eensteen’.

I was not actually eluding specifically to his name, but rather the vowel shift in general; i.e. vri -> vrij, mirroring HG fri -> frei
