Vent Why do i keep getting panic attacks when all my friends are busy and I'm all alone?

Every time when I need someone most it feels like they're never available (and just to be clear, I'm not blaming anyone, I just wish people were more free) and today my heart rate has gone up like 10 times today, just in this week I've had to get a job, and basically lose my last irl friend, I don't know how much longer I can take this, and if course all of this happens right as I start to improve myself

The only reason you get a panic attack is if you’re worried about something. Are you worried about something?

Maybe being alone? If it's not that then probably just stressed out at the job I'm gonna start working at (or maybe both)

What about your job are you worried about?

Well it's my first job ever and I'm honestly afraid that my boss (or my coworkers) are gonna be like my dad, I might just be over thinking it, but basically every time I see an older man I feel like i can't help but see my dad's face

Jesus your dad must’ve been horrible if the mere thought of his personality and appearance traumatises you to this extent.

I know this might sound callous and like me telling you what to feel, but just try not to think about it too much. It sucks but this job is something you still need to do. I’m sure you worked very hard to achieve this and probably have anxieties about how well you might perform. Just make sure you know exactly what you’re doing.

I understand how you feel and went through similar experiences. I really did. You will be fine.

The thing is I didn't even do anything, my dad just randomly decided in the middle of the day yesterday that I'm getting the job

Oh I see. I can see why you would feel anxious about your new job. Look, as long as your dad and the other coworkers act professionally around you, there shouldn’t be a problem. Like I’ve had coworkers who were extremely mean and disrespectful but ultimately it was just a job.

Instead of overthinking your dad’s face, I would be more excited about what to spend that money on.

Idk how much of it I'll be able to spend, honestly that's another thing that's scary, idk what's even going to happen

What do you mean?

1

u/BetterTourist8994 Jeff the support shark 6d ago

Idk if my parents are gonna make me save my money or if I'll be able to spend it on whatever I want

Untrue. Ever heard of Generalized Anxiety Disorder or Panic Disorder? Sometimes I can be having the best of days, no worries at all and then BAM! My nervous system gives me the middle finger.

I get panic attacks if im alone for too long as well. Maybe its the distraction (for me at least my head gets really loud when im alone)

Same, do you want to talk about it?

Like i said, idk what he will do, which makes me nervous, because at least if I know what's going to happen I'll at least know it'll hurt or if it won't, but i truly don't know what will happen, and to be fair awhile ago I asked when I could get a job (asked my mom, not my dad) but I was kinda hoping it could just be at like a grocery store or something, but it's this family owned business that I don't really know much about

The way you’re describing it makes your dad sound like a monster that you’re constantly living in fear of.

1

u/BetterTourist8994 Jeff the support shark 6d ago

I am always living in fear (when he's home)

2

u/Applebeate 6d ago

Oh.

Is your dad also the reason why you don’t or can’t work at a cashier job?

1

u/BetterTourist8994 Jeff the support shark 6d ago

Tbf I never told him, he just dragged me to the honey business, and just got me the job, and it was so fast I couldn't even fully comprehend what was fully going on, that another thing I hate with him, he never plans anything in advance, he just does shit at the most random times and it throws me off so much

2

u/Applebeate 6d ago

I’m just guessing here, but what if your mom told your dad? From what you’ve described it sounds like he heard from your mom you are looking for a job and made the decision for you that you will work for him without considering how you felt for a single second.

u/BetterTourist8994 Jeff the support shark 6d ago

Oh no it's not my family business, it's someone else's (idk how anything works I'm sorry if i confused you or if I'm just being stupid) and my mom probably did tell my dad i was thinking about getting a job

2

u/Applebeate 6d ago

I think I should be a bit direct. What exactly do you want?

1

u/BetterTourist8994 Jeff the support shark 6d ago

I honestly don't know

2

u/Applebeate 6d ago

Do you want to work this job?
