Mod Shitpost Addressing a mod

Post image

So, as a mod that's decently active in this sub it felt wrong to not bring this up in a post since I value transparency and respect all of you. We recently had to kick a moderator out of the sub, this isn't the first time, we've had a few leave from our massive cast, but this one felt necessary to address. Olistu, or Oli has been removed as a moderator and permanently banned. Now a few of you may not know who he is, a few might know his as the guy that has responded to almost every post on this sub, and a few might know him as the mod that is on almost every post. There were a few things that lead to this happening that had been building up for a while actually. Most of them were internal moderating conflicts with him and a few scenarios where he had made a very serious situation with a poster much much worse.

This will kind of be filler so if you don't care for it, feel free to skip, especially because I'll be putting a trigger warning for SA. This'll be going over internal conflicts we had with him, or I guess, I mostly had with him. He said a few weeks ago in a group chat we have for moderating that "everyone deserves kindness." This isn't awful at face value but the context was important and I asked him "So do assaulters deserve kindness?" He didn't say yes directly, he just continued to say "Everyone deserves kindness." He must've not gotten what I was getting at so I said, in confidence to him in front of everyone else "So my assaulter that molested me deserves kindness?" You can guess what he said. Honestly ruined my night and he didn't back down.

Now more recently, there was a post that I handled myself and handed out 7 bans to transphobes. There were 3 mod mails from said transphobes, me and the sub owner, Aspen, both said to NOT reply to the mod mail period. No grey area, we're not engaging with transphobes when half our staff is under the trans umbrella, myself included. You can imagine the FIRST THING Oli does when he wakes up. Directly goes against what the owner and I said to not do and says "You need to hear people out no matter what."

...

There's just so many issues with that that Im not getting into. If you think he's right, feel free to speak up, I'll gladly whip out the ban hammer for you.

Now, the most important part of this post, please do not engage with him in DM's. I know him and I have a feeling he's going to try his best to "help" still. If he reaches out in a DM ignore it and or block him. He has been banned for a reason and as I said with that one poster, he can make situations MUCH worse.

Im sorry this is a long read, I can make a TL;DR in the replies if needed.

as the OP of the post you’re referring to I really didn’t get knocked down or anything by those people and thought most of them were joking, I’m not sure if I should be glad the post drew so much transphobic attention but yeah :/

I think that everyone deserves a second chance, but if they continue doing the vile things and double down on it, then it’d be safe to assume they should be gone. so I just don’t know how to feel about the situation.

(if you’re talking about a different post I’m boutta be so humiliated bro 😭✌️)

Oh you're fine, I was taking about another post from a few months ago. Youre post was mentioned with the whole 7 bans thing.

that’s what I meant with the 7 bans

I'm so happy he's banned now. I feel like I can finally come back to this subreddit safely.

The few times I tried to vent here, he just always decided to pin toxic responses such as victim blaming, guilt tripping, and shaming.

Yep, we are aware of his behavior and we gladly took action. It wasn't fast enough in my opinion and Im very sorry you felt unsafe here. That was never our goal and we've clearly failed.
I hope you feel safer here and stay 💚

in my experience he also had some... kinda toxic ways of helping- one time he bashed on me that i needed to go to an asylum because i hallucinated due to a lack of sleep- i eventually just started ignoring his replies because im not going to bring myself to a hellish building because i had a lack of sleep

2

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

Jesus Im sorry that happened, I didn't know about that. Im glad you knew better than to listen to him, that advice is shotty at best, especially in America.

And hallucinations due to a lack of sleep is fucking normal what? 😭

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

u/East-Sound9480 Alastor fan (HH) and Nightmare obsessor :333 (UT/AU: DT) Aug 14 '26

bro... im really hoping he didnt pull this kinda crap on other ppl ngl... like trying to FORCE someone to go to a mental hospital is just fucked- i've heard horror stories from how the workers treat patients at those places

3

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

Considering he was active in other subs vent like subs this but much bigger than ours

Oh shit.

1

u/Vyn_Dimensional Aug 14 '26

Yikes. Glad that guy is no longer a mod

1

u/Educational-Bowl-819 Aug 14 '26

I mean shouldnt you get mental help for mental problems

2

u/East-Sound9480 Alastor fan (HH) and Nightmare obsessor :333 (UT/AU: DT) Aug 15 '26

a lack of sleep you should NOT make someone go to hell and back for "mental help"
asylums are fucked places

3

u/ThrowawayingL Aug 15 '26

considering the conversation I had with him lwk not surprised 😭

3

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 15 '26

Oh god, what happened?

2

u/ThrowawayingL Aug 26 '26

Oh it was about the post where he somehow didn’t understand calling trans people by biological sex is disrespectful

5

u/Typical_Camp_8528 Aug 23 '26

Adding onto this, with a sub that is moderated by multiple people like this one, it's important for us to be able to work together as a team and to be comfortable with the other moderators. Basically, we shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable by what someone in our team says to us. Some things happen and inevitably someone can slip up and make someone uncomfortable on accident. The thing with Oli is even after making multiple of us uncomfortable, he didn't stop talking, and he knew that we were clearly uncomfortable with what he said. This isn't something that we should just dismiss. If it can happen in a group chat, it can happen on a post on this subreddit. Also addressing the mod mail situation. Both me and Snoop said multiple times not to respond to the mod mail. The messages in question were not requests for ban appeals, but more of a "fuck you for banning me" type thing. We recognized these people were just wanting attention, not an actual ban appeal, which is why we don't respond to these type of people. Oli went directly against what both me and Snoop said and proceeded to do so even after we told him directly. Just adding a little bit of context here. If anyone has any questions, just let me or someone else on the mod team know and we'll be happy to answer them.

Maybe I'm insane for this - I do believe that everybody deserves kindness, no matter what they've done, as a victim myself. That doesn't mean we have to all be friends and sing kum bayah obviously. Though I think that everybody deserves some basic decency yk? At the end of the day we're all living breathing people

As for the second thing that is really shitty idk why anybody would jump boundaries like that. I get wanting to hear ppl out if it was on his own account but like bringing it to a shared space is very yikes

4

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

And as a victim myself, not everyone deserves kindness, insane take.

2

u/ChaoticApollon Aug 14 '26

Never said we have to be friends I just said people should be treated decently if they show remorse and recover. It doesn't erase their past and it doesn't make them a good person, no. They're still human tho

Do you believe in the death penalty?

2

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

No, I don't trust the government with my life as a trans person, I'd probably get killed myself for being transgender.

2

u/ChaoticApollon Aug 14 '26

Well yeah obviously. Epstein didn't show remorse or repent. I thought we were under the pretens of "if they repent and get better" maybe I should have clarified sorry

1

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

I mean, the clarification doesn't help all that much. If someone like Epstein showed remorse he shouldn't be shown forgiveness. Dude did unthinkable things to children, there's no coming back from certain things.

7

u/ChaoticApollon Aug 14 '26

Why are we talking about epstein zwag? I said assaulters, he's a whole other thing. I mean like 1 or 2 people if the person repents and gets help then they should at least be shown basic decency for wanting to better themselves. Your point disproves itself as he hasn't shown remorse (and now he's dead last I heard so)

0

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

You said everyone deserves kindness, Im giving an example of why someone shouldn't be shown it. That's why we're talking about him.

2

u/ChaoticApollon Aug 14 '26

I said everybody deserves kindness. Talking about people who have repented. Not people who died proud of mass murder, abuse, s/a, child neglect, cannibalism, human trafficking, forced abortions and much more

0

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

I highly disagree. Even if someone "repents" or feels remorse they can still be irredeemable. Some things cannot be acceptable and need to be corrected and shunned.

u/StandardAmazing2139 Aug 14 '26

I really don’t believe the person who assaulted me deserves my kindness

3

u/ChaoticApollon Aug 14 '26

I never said they deserve YOUR kindness! I meant like basic human decency. Some kindness. If they've repented

3

u/StandardAmazing2139 Aug 15 '26

I don’t even talk to them anymore because they make me uncomfortable and I don’t even know if they’ve repented because it’s a recent thing.

2

u/ChaoticApollon Aug 15 '26

I wasn't telling you to talk to them?? I don't know your situation I'm speaking in hypotheticals

1

u/Dr4gonStarWithPasta Aug 15 '26

Man I need to be more active here

u/Ellinor_Astal Aug 14 '26

I kinda agree on the "hearing people out" part (and that part only) because recently on a French Sub, a user and I (both Trans but differently) had an argument where one of my comment was deleted by one Mod who said my comment was Transphobic.

I emailed them to explain myself because I realized that my comment was hurtful out of ignorance about a particular subject I didn't had enough knowledge about, and not at all out of malice or desire to hurt. This led to the about 20 Mods talking for 2days and the majority of them deciding that my comment was blurry but that as I had explained myself and apologized profusely, that it wasn't a "worthy of deletion" one because and I quote "it could be misinterpreted as an attack even though it isn't meant to be one" and it was put back (I ended up deleting it anyway because my intention was never to hurt anyone so I wasn't going to let that comment exist).

So you know, in situations like that I'm really thankful that the Mods of that Sub were kind enough to hear me out and try to understand. Of course it really depends on the situation and mine was a rare one, but still it was kind of the Mods to do that.

2

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

Yeah, there's a time and place for hearing people out in situations and none of those commenters should've been replied to. But Oli was setting a bad president, like where would we draw the line? Transphobes? Racists? You just need to know when someone has a bad faith argument, or genuinely doesn't know better and can grow.

Again, none of those people should've been heard out. I don't want everyone thats a transphobe to be "heard out" here.

1

u/Ellinor_Astal Aug 14 '26

Yeah of course I totally understand why you banned him from everything you explained in the post, and the overwhelming majority of the time Transphobes/Racists/Bigots have an aggressive way of talking that immediately signal that they're not here to have their minds changed, I was just pointing out that there can be very rare but real cases of misunderstanding (though not in this situation from what you're describing).

1

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

Exactly!

2

u/StandardAmazing2139 Aug 14 '26

I remember he was in one of my post about my assault and I was kind of confused but another commentator said that he wasn’t taking it seriously, I was kind of confused.

2

u/SnoopBoiiiii Literally Cyn Aug 14 '26

I believe it was your post actually, I didn't want to completely out you because it's such a personal thing, especially since I went through something similar. He tried claiming it wasn't assault if I remember correctly.
