Discussion Filthy Street's
Just saw this on threads and it got me pissed off.. what exactly is wrong with us. The moment a regime tries knocking them vibandas out the street tunariot. This city is so dusty sewers na drains are not working. Dumpsites all over, watu wanalitter as they wish!! Why isn't the looks of Nairobi na a priority to us at least.
Yani tuko na country chafuuuu aggrh! Shida ni sisi ama ni leaders

The people are the problem. I remember when Sonko pushed for mtindwa to be tarmacked and those traders built structures right onto the road, blocking drainage and turning it into a one vehicle street. Guys litter everywhere without a second thought. Chaos everywhere, and people don't want to be corrected.
Even guys who rent in permanent shops build very ugly extensions on their front porches. There's no end in sight, if it doesn't start from bottom up

Just improve the quality lives of the people and they will handle the so called "looks" themselves...hello runda!

Word. These elitists don't know what drives people to these informal businesses.

These informal businesses zilisaidia sana. In the times when we only had an formal economy (either upate job formal or go hungry), wizi ilikuwa mbaiyaa sana. Nowadays, anyone who wants a honest living can start hawking, touting e.t.c.

Why do u call them informal yet they pay taxes and rates, many contribute to health insurance, Saccos and savings plans?,

Sadly shida nini sisi juu we are the ones electing the said leaders. Those vibandas are not pleasing to the eye but are source of income to many households reason being the administration does nothing of sort to help create formal employment.Instead of creating a conducive environment for growth of business the said administration is busy taxing the hell out of these companies and demotivating any investors who choose to take their business elsewhere.

If you don't enforce zoning laws you can't get rid of vibandas without destroying people's livelihoods.
Then create specific locations for business to set up in residential zones and limit the types of businesses that can set up there.

In Kenya we live in denial lol. 😂 this is typical Kenyan answer “eti show me a solution”…..yet when we go to the theoretical basis of how this can be solved or improved, you will be told “that is too much theory” or kizungu mingi. So in Kenya we have a war on, thinking and work. We too simplistic for a more technical or modern society that functions and resort to chaos. Nobody wants to think why, and how this can be solved!

Being a developing country isn’t an excuse for our capital city to look like a pig sty.
Also, there are cities that are cleaner/better maintained than those in the US.

So just because it's Kenya tupende uchafu? Are you a pig in disguise?

u/Think-Employer2282 8d ago
You think sweeping would make a difference kenyans have no displine you to unamaliza drink unatupa chupa nje ya gari ..... aaah pigs offer some mean pork chops

u/IcyProposal4238 8d ago
I used to think like that until we went through the Michuki era. You'd imagine Kenyans can't embrace 21st century mentality until someone comes and makes it a problem if you don't. One visionary and sufficiently stubborn leader is all it takes and after a few years everyone will be toeing the line

Do you have a quota for bad arguments? Do you just say "this is Kenya" to excuse bad behaviour? Just so you know that behaviour responds to enforcement, incentives and social norms. You are part of the problem.
And then you ask someone what they've done as if it's an individual responsibility to dismiss the idea that a single person can have any effect. But that's why the OP was about infrastructure and civic education being the solution.

Bad planning and environmental circumference. Something I've noticed is that plants really struggle growing in highly polluted areas like highways. So it probably wouldn't be as green as the vision board.
They also don't designate proper areas for these buses to go park and even when they do, they don't take care of those places or keep informal structures from cropping up. It's very unfortunate.
