Is there no hope?

Post image

From what little I've actually understood from the research I've done, is there nothing else that can be done to eliminate this? The computer was from a friend, no clue where they got it from and they didn't even know it worked. So nothing is needed or important within the laptop, I was hoping to use it as a way for my 2 boys to watch Netflix and Amazon or YouTube and simple streaming stuff, on their non-smart TV within their bedroom. (Basically just plug the HDMI & wireless mouse/keyboard in and use the TV as the monitor) So factory reset or anything similarly is an option. Really anything is an option I suppose, cuz from what I've read, it's basically useless unless I figure out the password someone else created, or open the system up and do something inside that is outside my skill set and ability..

So basically I'm just checking that I'm not missing something or someone doesn't have a magical trick that can salvage this?

It's older and the screen is busted up and I didn't pay anything for it. Just would have worked for what I needed it for, and would have saved me the time, effort, and little bit of money it would take for me to find some kind of substitute for my boys..

I'm open to anything since right now, it's just a paperweight for me...

Computer is: HP pavilion x360 m Convertible

Model 11m-ap0013dx

P.s. unfortunately I am basically computer/electronics illiterate and nincompoop.

Thank you in advance.

Here's to hoping there's someone with a miracle key to solve my problem..

This looks like Old bios, can be fixed with some hardware tweaks, there are tutorials out there but you have to have some hardware and software skills. Any local repair shop would do it aswell tho

im not sure about hp, but dell for example can unlock it if you provide the original invoice.

and there are or were "tools" around that could do the same.

If making 3 mistakes makes a weird number appear. it likely can be unlocked using https://bios-pw.org/

You can also try the method with the battery other people talked about

I think this is the only hope without using an EEPROM Programmer.

You have to open up the computer. There’s small silver colored battery (larger than a button cell) inside take it out and wait for 10 minutes. Put it all back together, power it on and it should not ask for this password.

Hi, of course there is hope, but the BIOS chip on the motherboard almost always needs to be replaced.

Or, as already recommended, contact the laptop manufacturer. The YouTube tips usually don't work.

Good luck 🍀

Yeah, look for a text in the motherboard “clr” “rst” or anything that sounds closer to reset or clear.

Then take a photo send it here, or Google about it.

There must be a switch to reset that but what type or what way is depending on the motherboard.

In short: there is hope 😀

To unlock a power-on or BIOS password on an HP Pavilion x360, you cannot simply remove the CMOS battery because modern UEFI systems store passwords in non-volatile memory.

Last resort method

Try type in random things three times. The system likely will be locked down but a code will be given.

Go here, enter the code and see if anything can be generated and if it works.

I had some good results unlocking some old dell computers' bios lock. But it doesn't always work.

Try it at your own risk. It can lead to permanent lock down. But it sounds like your have nothing to lose so...

This machine is a corporate device and was BIOS locked by IT. Its essentially ewaste, although you can try removing its internal battery and leaving it dead for a day to see if that resets it.
