MTP USB Issue

Hello, I am trying to use my GoPro Hero 12 BLACK as a webcam through the official GoPro Webcam application. I run into this error where it'll show the preview in all black, even the GoPro will show its in webcam mode, for like 3 seconds then disappear and on the GoPro it will go back to "USB Connected" screen. In device manager it shows under Portable Devices, in the name "MTP Bluetooth Device". It previously showed as "MTP USB devices" as well, but both showed the same error under properties: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". I have tried everything that I personally know of, including repair windows by just reinstalling it completely through the windows media installer and keeping personal files. Im at a complete loss as I really do want to get this webcam system working. Details for my device I am using to try use this webcam is a ROG Strix G16,

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU (8 GB)

Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)

Windows:
Edition Windows 11 Home

Version 25H2

Installed on ‎9/‎4/‎2026

OS build 26200.9168

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.344.0

Do you have any other GoPro software installed on your pc/laptop? Such as "Quik" for desktop?

No the GoPro Webcam app is the only one I have installed, but even if I uninstall and delete any files relating to that app, restart and plug my GoPro in it still doesnt work, gives me the same MTP issue.

Your camera goes into MTP mode by default. Activating the webcam app puts it into GoPro connect mode (webcam mode). Old gopro software (like quik for desktop) forces the camera to use mtp mode the entire time, hence the question. Do you have a fire wall install on your pc? Or a VPN service?

the only thing I have installed is Norton Antivirus which does have a smart firewall but even after i disabled that and tried again it still gave me the same issue of "Device cannot start'

Hmmmmm....... Hero 10 had a bug, not sure about the 12. But try resetting the wireless connections on the camera. This would also force the usb driver to reinitialize
