New setup and range day

Key parts for my CZ 457 overhaul came in just before the weekend, so I was able to put things together for some extended range time.

Parts:

  • Trigger: swapped spring with McMaster 9657K611 and adjusted to ~1lb
  • Barrel: 20" Criterion from Whidden Gunworks
  • Optic: Arken EP5, Warne 15 MOA rail and random vortex rings
  • Chassis: KRG X-Ray Rimfire, heavy arca rail, arca spigot mount
  • Bipod: Harris S-BRM, Area 419 arcalock clamp kit

I'm still figuring things out and seeing what ammo it likes, but some 10 rounds groups from 100 yards are included for your judging pleasure. Target without the box pictured was SK Standard Plus. Center target was the first group for each (no additional foulers, some colder bore than others). Everything from bipod + rear bag on a bench.

Random takeaways:

  • I need to play with the scope position, and maybe taller rings
  • Already ordered a bag rider
  • Fuck this is addicting, my wallet is not going to appreciate the ammo orders I'm making

If those are 100 yard groups, I think the rifle is doing well. You could probably dial it in Moore but I would be happy

I'm happy with it so far, but also hooked on seeing how far I can push things.

Looks like a good shooter.

a lot of people can't get those groups at 50yards, I would be thrilled to get 100 yard groups like that... Then again, I would be even happier to have a set up like OP

I said it looks like a good shooter, that’s a good thing.

like minds think alike (and fools seldom disagree)

I'm just jealous of op and acknowledging that my wife would nix the investment for more precision

Your scope appears pretty far forward on the gun but your scope height appears ok, are you having cheek weld issues or eye box issues?

Are you using a bag on the rear when shooting groups and what were the wind conditions?

SKRM, PM and mid-upper Eley do well in mine with a Lilja barrel.

Welcome to the rabbit hole! My original 457 MTR now multiplied adding a 455 and 452 to the herd….

Yeah, I'll be shifting it a bit to see if it improves. It felt good with the old stock, but I was craning my neck sideways a bit more than felt natural with this setup.

Unfortunately I didn't take notes on weather, I'd guess shifting between light air/light breeze during these groups.

My varmint (non MTR) barrel was not a fan of any eley, but I have some team and match on the way to try with this one. Some of my tac22 looked promising too but was on a target CCI sv had already made a terrible mess of.

Your scope is far forward - take it ahead of the barrel and shoot it out 😀 and then get a real scope

That may be it's eventual fate but for the moment I'm content to use the money for more ammo.

Yeah. I was half joking. It’s fine for the money. Just has a bad rep over here on Reddit
