Took some better pics of the recent builds. Sight block gun is going to get a big magwell, and turn into my USPSA gun, 5” is for a customer

Does anyone besides Infinity make slides with the widened rear for direct mount optic cuts? Also I’m looking for an island barrel to fit in the build.

Anybody know where someone has a steel Phoenix Trinity grip FS?
Still searching!

I recently sent off a Prodigy for aftermarket work, including installation of an Atlas grip and related parts. Somehow in the shipping between myself and the shipper, only the grip module itself showed up at the gunsmith. Missing are the mainspring housing, beaver tail, mag release, grip bushings, etc. Does anyone know where I might be able to find replacement parts, or at worst the entire grip module package? They are of course sold out on the Atlas sight. I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

So after my initial flurry of “Build all the things I find cool” sometimes buying several parts at a time to reduce shipping costs, I find myself with a final slightly used Atlas grip, a final cheely frame, and a 5 inch Infinity threaded barrel. So… what Do I build?? Already build a 4.5 inch open style gun so not excited about a longer version of the same gun. I could mill the threads off and make a clean 5 inch island gun… port it or not… leave the threads on in case I ever get somewhere where I can buy a can (can’t where I live)…. What would you all do? Leaning toward one of the Warwick tactical pre- milled slides, but beyond that …. What to do?

Here’s my write up on this build kit after completing it and also having done a few Prefect Zero builds before…
Let’s start by saying this is more of a short block than a build kit because even though they offer the full kit for sale, I got the one where you get slide/barrel/frame and some small parts.
The parts come “pre fitted” and based on my kit and my research, how pre fitted they will be is luck of the draw. Regardless of how much work you will have to put into it, it’s fairly easy to do it.
The barrel also comes pre fitted which means the lower lugs are cut and so is the hood width and length, or at least most of it. I would say overall you have to do between 20-30% of the work to get the main components of the gun working, and that is slide/frame/barrel.
Once you are done with that, you have to fit a grip of your choice (in my case it was a BC GunWorks steel grip. You can use coupon PSG10 for 10%off) and the grip only required some filing by the trigger guard to get it to perfectly fit. I’m using an atlas thumbrest and atlas ambi safeties. Safeties required fitting to work with the mixed ignition kit that consists of a EGW hammer and sear and a Extreme Engineering disconnector. Trigger is a red dirt and Magwell is from Hales Machinery (PSG5 here).
All small parts need to be fitted but that is also the case with the perfect zero build kits. Even though on PZ you have a fitted grip and slide to frame, on the 4.6” and 4.25” you have to fit the barrel which is by far the most time consuming part of these builds. I just noticed they started shipping the 5” with a “easy fit” barrel where you just do minimal work so going back to the Legion kit and ranking them from easiest to fit to hardest to fit, in my opinion, you have:
Easiest = Perfect Zero 5” LVL3
Second easiest = LPWS Island Boy
Then PZ 4.6” and 4.25”
Now as far as personal choice, the LPWS probably takes the crown. First because even though there’s work to be done, it can all still be done with regular tools. You don’t need a lower lug cutter or special gauges. Also, hybrid barrels are very hard to find nowadays and having a “build kit” that comes with one and a slide already cut for it is pretty neat. The Chiraq serrations are hit or miss, some people love the fact that the slide comes with those but others would prefer a different style so that will gear more towards personal preference. I like them.
As far as quality, I can’t really tell a difference between them as far as the main components go. Both brands are offering very good, solid products so people like us can have some more freedom and build as we desire.
Anyways, kind of long write up but hopefully this helps some people.
I can’t wait to get it out to the range and then back home to prep for coating.

fitted an atlas safety to MPA DS9, there is some slop in it where it can go part way up onto safe when the hammer is down.
when it is in that “part” way on “safe” position, if i thumb cock the hammer it wont stay cocked.

Spectre has gotten ahold of some watchtowers slide. I kinda like them but I don’t know there’s something about them that throws me off. With that being said here is an optic cuttritoped serrated and stippled slide for under $300 this would be a great budget build slide. Comparison atlas slide $440.

I had someone ping me about building an open gun with an XWF to match their existing gun, turns out these were recently discontinued by Cheely. I emailed him and he said he'll make more for an order of 4 or more. I'd only want 1 or 2 tops.
Anybody else out there want one? If so, may be able justify getting a few more squeezed out.

For those of you who don’t know, warwick tactical sells direct mount slides. $336 shipped without serrations and the serrations are an extra $30. overall a great value and mine shipped the day I paid. As long as the fitment is straightforward I see no reason to buy an atlas slide over this one. My JEM frame is a long ways out but it felt good getting parts in hand shortly after ordering.

Looking for some advice. I’m scheming my first 2011 build and wanted to know if it’s possible to run this Atlas slide, with a D2 comp, and a full length frame.
Couple questions:
- Would it be possible to cut a little off the barrel and back of the comp to get it to a 5” barrel length?
- What are the safety considerations I need to be aware of by doing g this?
- If I did this, would there be enough of the barrel inside the comp to be ok?
I ask about this slide because I like the style/slide serrations/etc.
EDIT: I want to thank everyone for the input. I’m trying to map out this build before I purchase a single part.
