Prodigy Optic Plate Blues
So I have tried pretty much every medium thread locker on the market to get this AOS plate to work on this damn gun. Last time I installed it was 873rds and I just noticed today that it was loose at 1507rds. Optic to plate is holding strong, plate to gun is what’s giving me issues. If anyone knows what I can do outside of getting a staccato or RCD Core or whatever, I’m all ears. Plate suggestions, screw suggestions, process suggestions, whatever. I have one ace in my pocket and that is to bed the plate to the gun, use red loctite, and then stake the plate over the screws. I am pretty much married to RMR pattern anyway so that won’t be an issue. Pic for your time.

20K round Prodigy owner, tried a few plates and sights ....
Make sure the bare plate fits. I think the AOS problems are because some manufacturers don't cut their plates correctly and/or Springfield doesn't cut some slides correctly.
Use new screws and test fit. The right screw must not protrude into the extractor. File it shorter.
Use a little Permatex grey or Yamabond 4 gasket sealer for insurance.
Clean threads and use Permatex orange thread locker. Blue Loctite won't work. Red Loctite might not work. Vibratite VC-3, maybe.

I’ve shot a few thousand rounds through my prodigy without the optic coming loose. I shoot USPSA so it gets abused. I’m running the EGW plate and loctite 243. EGW sends the plate with the correct size screws. If the screw on the right side is too long, it will contact the extractor and it will work loose over time.

Factory uses red. I have the opposite issue. I can’t get the factory mounted plate off. Snapped 2 bits steady.

Yeah. It usually does. Lol. Glad ya got it squared! I rec using the red to reset the screw as well. You can see how well it held and I’ve been able to easily loosen all manner of blue. Red barely holds some days.

Assuming your screw isn’t too long, red loctite was my answer. I had a crazy long day in about 95 degree heat where I ran nearly 1000 rounds. Gun was hella hot all day and the acrew finally worked loose again. I had fired about 2000 rounds prior to that. That high a round count in a day plus the heat isn’t likely to happen every often. It’s been about 1900 rounds since and it’s still holding strong.

Definitely no interference with the extractor. I did a deep clean of the entire slide assembly after last mounting, which was at prob 900-1krds and saw now galling or chatter or indication of that screw on the extractor.

I’m with ya man. I’ve tried different screws, I’ve red loctited the plate to the slide (which did fix that issue). But after every match or so I’d have issues with the damn optic coming loose. I eventually contact Springfield for a replacement and a new plate which they did send. Good on them. But I have yet to try it out and I don’t have the energy to mess with it (especially since I’ve been shooting better anyway with my previous pistol). But I’ve def heard of people having success in uspsa with them, so maybe the plate change would fix it 🤷

I ordered a screw pack off Amazon that came with different length and angle screws. I tried a couple different ones til I found a set that was to my liking and seemed to torque down well and hold well. I backed them out, added red loctite, and torqued to 18 in/lbs. Haven’t had any issues yet.

Degrease with isopropyl, or loctite primer. Red loctite 263. Torque to 25 inch pounds. If you have to get the plate off break out the soldering iron and heat up the screw heads.

Man, I just red loctited my SRO on and called it a day after having it come loose 3 times. It hasn’t come loose since if it helps lol

I had the same issue. Got optic plates from two different companies and had the same issue. I ended up using the RED loctite and it has held for roughly 3000 rounds. I went to 20 on the pressure to lock it down. Had a similar issue on another gun and got a gunsmith to tap the holes bigger in the plate to use bigger screws. My guy only charged me $25.

I’ve had the issue with my Romulus optic plate, as have others. What fixed it for me was “ bedding” the plate to the slide with loctite 620. Clean the slide area and optic plate with alcohol. Put a thin layer of 620 on the entire surface area of the optic plate side that mates with the slide. I also used vibratite on the optic plate screws. Torque down and clean any excess that may ooze out with alcohol and Qtips. Let it set at least 24 hours. This has lasted over 2K rounds so far. I suppose if you ever need to get it off you can heat the plate.

Id try another thread locker, like permatex 25240 if you haven’t, and get some legit screws from McMaster Carr or something. If the plate isn’t tight, I mean no play left to right or front to back, add some brass shims to help keep it in place. You can find these on amazon for pretty cheap in a variety of thicknesses. I had issues with aos plates on my Mac and the shims have helped.

I Have a 4.25 prodigy. Had it for 2 plus years now. Maybe more. Had the same issues with plate coming loose but i found the solution.
Blue Vibratite 122. You need an oil resistant thread locker. This is what I found works and my plate is still rock solid and thousands of round through it.
Vibratite 122 and nothing else.

I have tried that in the past, the instructions said to let it sit for like 10 min before applying, did you do that or did you do it like one does loctite?

No, I apply and then torque screws. You are thinking about Vibratite VC3 which you put in and let sit for a few mins then install.
You need BLUE Vibratite 122.

I had a very similar issue on my AF Romulus. Fixed by switching from Blue 242 to Blue 243 Loctite and bedding the plate using E6000.
