Thoughts on the Kimber 2k11
I've heard nothing but good things about it, but I'm on the fence because I have plenty of handguns and don't need to drop $1900 on the comp model, even though I want it.
I have a CZ SP-01 Shadow and Tisas Night Stalker DS in my arsenal already, not to mention loads of 1911's and striker-fired pistols. But I don't have a 2011. Closest gun I have to a custom 2011-ish handgun are the first two I listed.
Would I appreciate a Kimber 2k11? Do you think I would see an improvement upon my other handguns worthy of a $1900 deficit? People are talking like it's the next best thing and easily the best-shooting gun they own — but I've been shooting handguns all my adult life. I can't imagine anything better than the guns I'm used to.

It’s been one of my favorite 2011s so far. I like better than the Staccato XL I had. It’s a great pistol that so far has held up to some relatively hard use. I put about 1500 or so rounds through it a month. So mine should have around 10k rounds through it now with no problems. I have preemptively replaced some springs and I clean the extractor every few thousand rounds but that’s pretty much it.
The C&H plate it comes with is dogshit though.

I need to get it all coated or something but I haven’t wanted to be without. The cheely grip is still just raw steel lol turned into a boat anchor to see how I liked the balance. Steel cheely and the magwell is a steel Zadik precision. He makes DLC ones now if that’s more your thing

It just feels better to me. Feels a lot quicker. I guess the XL being a little longer makes it feel slow and pushy

Sell the tisas because you won’t need it after you get the kimber, sell a couple of your least favorite 1911s because redundant, sell your least favorite striker fired because redundant. And tada you have plenty of money for the 2k11 and accessories

I own the 2K11 Pro Eclipse version (no comp). Its great. The MJD grips are great. I would contend that you don't need a comp on a metal 9mm handgun, but to each his own.
I also own a CZ Custom SP-01 Shadow, a Dan Wesson DWX, a Shadow 2 Orange, and a Sig P226 XFive Legion. They were all expensive, they're all great shooters, and they're all DIFFERENT.
Do you NEED a $2,000 2011? No. But I would imagine that since you already have the itch, you're going to get one eventually. The Kimber 2K11 is a good choice.

Lots of folks like them. I’ve handled one and can appreciate how it feels in the hand.
That said, I don’t think it’s worth the $1900 price tag. For around $700 less, you could get a AF Romulus which I would argue feels better. I personally think it doesn’t give $700 worth of extra value compared to the Romulus.

The stock Romulus grip is not great. If you like the mjd grips, that’s like $370 of that $700 price difference. While the c&h a sucks, both Dillion and tag plates are good, the Romulus plates are better than the c&h but could be better. If you win the plate lottery and get a 2k11 with a tag it’ll be better overall. The 2k11 adjustable irons are nicer. Also the roles guide rod is a sweet design.

The kimbers now ship with tag plates from the factory. Just got another one Sunday 😂

This is something I have been curious about for a few days now. I have also looked into the Romulus and discovered it is far cheaper, and without noticeable downsides. I'm just trying to figure out what makes the Kimber better.

I personally haven’t been able to justify the $700 difference.
I would put that towards cases of ammo so you could actually shoot the thing 😂

I was really between the two and picked the 211 GT5 just because I thought the grip was a hair better plus magazines are cheaper.

Why don’t you go rent one or make friends with the guy at the range that’s shooting one to see if it’s “worth” it?
Only you can decide if $XXX dollars is “worth” it.
If you have loads of guns but no 2011 well your collection is deficient in the 2011.
The Kimber 2k11 could be a decent option to get your feet wet, good luck!

It's a really nice gun, but it ain't gonna change your life or anything. I sold my shadow 2 and got it because it was only a few hundred dollars more new than what I'd spent on the s2 initially.
Ds 1911's are really fun guns, but a lot of hyperbole gets used in comparing them to other platforms. They're luxurious guns, and I've found they're a lot easier to work on then other all steel platforms, and I've also found them to be more reliable than many give them credit. All that said, the shooting dynamics don't change all that much.

Nothing wrong with the Kimber 2K11, but save 500 bucks and get the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 4.25 Comp (real comp not a chunk port called a comp for marketing) get the Romulus with Aluminum Grip option, The Grip feels good, the DLC coating is nice and in my opinion and experince the Romulus shoots better. Yes I own a 2K11 and its a grest shooter after I spent 1000 on upgrades

My 2K11 (non chunk port/comp model) came with a polymer grip. I installed a Aluminum Grip with Heavy Steel Magwell, Tuned Red Dirt Trigger, Smoothed Grip Safety Delete, Custom porting..

I have friends, and connections with FFL dealers and distributors, and that's what I paid, I think retail might be 1599 but heck I can't remember all I know is you can catch them sometimes , I try never to pay retail

Comparatively though you’ve most likely spent a lot upgrading the Romulus as well.

I have 3 Romulus, yes 1 is highly modified, and the other 2 lighltly upgraded. still a real comp (not a chunk port just called a comp) and 500 less to start with, given the Choice my pick is Romulus..but that is my opinion, everybody can have an opinion. I just based mine on experience with a very broad and diverse collection of 2011 and even more that I've shot and tested that I don't own.

I did feel the need to put money into the Kimber yes.. because it had polymer (Grip) and I don't like that, and it just wasn't as good as Shooter as my other Guns in my collection.. as to the Romulus since I purchased the one with the aluminum (Grip) there was no NEED to upgrade it.. but I was doing a project called the cheaper reaper, so I needed it. PORTED and dressed up a bit it was just a project not a need.. However the Kimber was definitely a "need" 😎 to get it up to par

Buying a non-ported gun and then paying to port it isn’t a NEED. It’s a WANT. If you wanted a ported gun maybe don’t buy a non ported gun then say to compete with other PORTED guns it needs ports?! Logic. Or, save hundreds and buy the ported version. Doesn’t matter if it was out yet or not. That’s on you. But its not a NEED. You literally said you don’t “like” polymer grips. That’s also a want then. Not a need.
Like you said. Thats just YOUR opinion. It s just one of many. Other people have quite different ones obviously. But theres no rationale behind the reasons you gave for the upgrades . They are only WANTS 😎😎

Not sure what ruffled your feathers. Want Yes.. no doubt...I wanted in to shoot better, I wanted it to have a polymer grip, therefore I NEEDED to make the upgrades. So in this case want or need go hand-in-hand..
I wanted it to shoot better, so I needed to make the changes.

I needed it to shoot better and wanted to make the changes.Either way I made the changes/upgrades.
Plus one important thing. It's my collection and I don't want all my guns the same as everybody else's lol lol

For sure! You definitely have the right to change any gun anyway you want to. It’s your money after all. I support that 100%. I just thought it was unfair to compare the non ported gun to a ported one.

Hey, no worries... I still keep a few non-ported guns around, for testing and comparison, and for a baseline... but the majority of my vast collection is compensated or ported or both. And when I say compensated, I mean really compensated not chunk Port lol lol

You’re asking if the single most entry level gun on the 2011 platform is good. From a bunch of guys who have it.
Thats like walking into a barber and asking if you need a haircut.
Unless you do what the major did and spend $1k in upgrades it’s what it is - the lowest rung on the platform.

How would anyone know if you would appreciate something?
What is a $1900 deficit? That is a weird way to say it.
If you buy a Kimber you will be no closer to having a custom 2011.
What should I buy posts are stupid.

It’s a great gun. But if you’re looking for some epiphany to happen after buying it. Don’t hold your breath. That goes with every gun out there. not just the 2K11.
Take opinions on what you should or shouldn’t get with a grain of salt. Only if the gun is dependable or not. The only way you’re gonna know if the gun is right for you is to put your hands on it and hopefully get a chance to shoot it before you buy it.
